However those nations will have more room and most likely have a larger population and a lot of natural resources scattered around their land. These would allow them those armies and navies etc to hold the land. They would have the money from the taxes and an abundance of resources to sell off to other nations which would help their economy. So I think they probably would have the strength to defend themselves from invasion.

It depends... some of these 'spread out territories' could be Saharan-like desert terrain.

True but those types of terrain are great barriers to an enemy force. Just keep the enemy stuck in the desert and watch them starve to death. However I'm sure one if the three giant plots won't have that problem. I mean the giant island one. All you need is subs, subs, subs. However that's the same for all island nations.

A lot of people (me included) just use their Atlas territories solely for Atlas.

My nation was originally a big island like Australia, but I took a regualr piece of land and copied and paste my geography.

What I do is just say there are 2 key parts to the Valaran Empire. My Atlas territory, and my other one (I do have a map). It makes sense since I already have colonies outside the region. That way, no canon needs to be changed.

I terms of the shape of my nation, the general 25, 26, 27 area fits the geography of Carloso quite nicely, 27 especially.
