My granddad did that. Pickled his liver in the process.

Based on your logic, since you can't prove me wrong, I'm right. It all depends on what the default is. What is the default? It depends on what you say it is or what I say it is. You've proved nothing.

I can't say if they can be, but I see no reason why one should allow religion to go through a debate unquestioned. It's like saying to someone that believes we're all surrounded by magical invisible, intangible fairies. It's unfalsifiable, yes, but horribly illogical.Alexlantis wrote:Based on your logic, since you can't prove me wrong, I'm right. It all depends on what the default is. What is the default? The default is atheism. Were you not taught your God?
No, I've proved nothing, because I don't need to prove anything. You do. My position is that the world simply is as it is. Yours is that there is something more. It needs to be proved that there is this something more, no?

I always thought agnosticism was the default, considering you're unable to made a decision whether God(s) exist or not until you're more developed.

Perhaps I should rephrase that. No one who's died and left for the afterlife or the great nothingness or whatever has come back to talk about it.
People who have been temporarily dead and resuscitated have seen a bright light, which could mean any number of things. No one has been dead to the point where they can tell us there's nothing or that there's something and then came back to tell us about it.

Again, you're being rather illogical. How do you know? You don't. I'm an agnostic atheist, or, depending on the mood, I'm agnostic spiritual.

What I do believe is the compromise, both it being a born-with-it thing and a choice depending on the person.

No. Atheism is, as you need to be introduced to the philosophical concept of a God, yeah? You aren't born undecided. You're born not even knowing there was even that idea.

You're also born not knowing of an absence of a God. You have no opinion on the matter because you don't know what opinions there are. You know nothing about anything.

Agnosticism isn't a third position... There are only two possible answers to the question "Do you believe in a deity or deities?"
If the answer is "yes" then you are a theist.
If the answer is "no" then you are an atheist.

Yes, I was taught my God, but I always believed I had a soul. I can remember not knowing of a God, but I can't remember not knowing of a soul.
And were you not taught that because such a God was unlikely, that it didn't exist?
And if there is an afterlife, and God is the loving God that I believe exists, you could opt out of it if you so choose.
Give a shit, don't give a shit, whatever, but blindly rejecting others' views without thinking seems to reek of the same kind of mindset that causes fundamentalism.
