"Carthago delenda est", the Latin counterpart to our new meme, was a catchphrase of a famous Roman politician. Basically, Cato would give a speech about something unrelated, and then throw "Carthago delenda est" at the end. He really hated Carthage.

A poster named Bluth said "Furthermore, I think Carthage must be destroyed" as a snarky response to a series of non-sequitirs*, and, bam, meme.

I don't understand the Carthage must be destroyed thing. I know where it comes from ("Carthago delenda est" which Marcus Porcius Cato said during the Punic Wars against Carthage) but I don't know why its been revived? Perverted stuff? That'd be because it is NationStates.

We actually discussed this in my English class this past year. Someone asked the plural of non sequitur, and I naturally said "non sequuntur" but my English teacher said non sequiturs. Apparently, both are acceptable in the English language, though the anglicised "non sequiturs" is more common.
