I really don't get what the big deal is. Have a joint, grab a cold beer, I mean really. Let's think logically here. Out of all the privately owned firearms in the United states (about 280-300m), there are 32,000 or so firearm related deaths. Assuming one death per firearm, 32,000 calculates into 0.01% of all privately owned firearms. Thats not even one percent. Not to dismiss those unneccesary deaths but seriously 0.01 percent. That's so infinitesimally small it's not even funny. 0.01% really isin't a problem.

Besides, advocating a disarmed society to some degree is essentially advocating regression the human race back to the dark ages. Where dirt poor serfs were essentially unarmed and where the rich held all the power and arms. When pleas for change didn't work and revolt was the only option, they didn't stand a chance.
You have to ask yourself. Is a society where the rich upper political class holds a monopoly on the ability to commit violence a really good idea? How many private citizens organized world wars, starvation and mass genocides?

No, ‘tis better for all that my sweet, well-meaning character be fated to Dexter who will presumably give her a good fucking before sending her on her way without so much as a muttered “thanks”. The chances of repercussions after an encounter with an angry Khornate Renegade Marine are far preferable to any shenanigans inflicted upon her by Bones’ capricious imagination.

I haven't read through all of these posts, but from the original post, I have to disagree with the idea that boys aren't taught it's okay to rape. I think that the definition of rape is generally misunderstood by many people, men and women alike, so what we get taught not to do isn't really the entire scope of rape. Rape is any non-consenting sex, whether it's man-woman, woman-man, woman-woman, man-man, or otherwise. In theory, they should all be treated the same. There is the idea that males would be less harmed by a woman "raping" them because "he'd want it anyways", but that's just stupidity.

Society in general, media especially, tend to teach "don't get raped" instead of "don't rape". With the Ohio case just recently, CNN and the other news networks were sympathizing with the rapists. They were star athletes, on their way to fame, why did this happen to them? Yet, they raped the girl. Instead, it was pinned more on her for getting drunk. That's rape culture—it's your fault for getting raped, not theirs for raping you.

Women get blamed for getting raped all the time. Swaziland, if I recall correctly, banned mini-skirts, low-rise jeans, and other "rape provoking" clothing because in their government's eyes, at the very least, men cannot be held accountable for their actions if the woman looks a certain way. This is something that we do just about everywhere, really. In the US, there was an episode of "What Would You Do?" where a woman was jogging in a sports bra and workout pants. More than one man commented that if she didn't want to be looked at or have advances made on her, she wouldn't be dressed that way.

It is astoundingly normal for boys and men to have a sense of entitlement like that. Few people are taught outright that rape is okay, but the way that it gets spun around makes it seem like it's the girls' fault unless the man is just a sadistic monster that everyone wants to persecute. The "boys will be boys" rule really speaks to that. It's okay for boys to go messing around, because boys will be boys, but the second a girl does it she's branded as a slut and a whore.

There's a large double-standard. I think that the real problem is how media portrays women on a regular basis—sexual objects meant for men's pleasure, or just eye candy—and how that is perceived by our youth. If all you ever hear is music that talks about women being strictly for sex/pleasure, and how you're allowed to do what you want with them, how're you gonna honestly not act on that belief? It is unfair to boys and men in general, because they are basically conditioned to do one thing that we condemn in a way, but promote in another. It's more unfair to women because a) they are the ones who are being victimized more often than not, and b) the blame gets put on them in most cases for provoking such things. B) openly implies that men's natural state is rapist, and that they have to consciously not rape someone, which is also ridiculous.

It's a very tricky subject, I think, and it gets handled with double standards depending on the situation. It's really unfortunate.

Sorry if that was off-base/reiterating what anyone else already said—just my two cents.
