While the boy gets to pay child support for the next 18 years.

No. I agree with Kat (I know, shocker there. :p ) that if you're teaching and you betray that trust that has been placed in you, you deserve to have the book thrown at you and it annoys me that we still live in a society where the actions of men and women are judged so differently just because 'Oh, of COURSE a teenage boy would want to get it on with his hot teacher. It makes him the BMoC. There's no harm done.'

It is, to my mind, akin to saying that men cannot be raped because we're just all horndogs.

Yeah I do admit taking advantage of a position of trust is a bit much. Adults in a p0osition of trust have a duty to protect the young.

but theoretically, your not involved, a teen girl not your student(or in your school at all) comes on to you what would your course of action be?

Well if shes 18... :D

Assume minimum age of consent age of consent of Japan (13) is the law, and the girl is say 15.

If it was consensual then she committed no crime, at least in my view!

If it happened in the Kingdom of Ismon she would be free, almost certainly out of job and liable to civil action for breach of contract. But utterly free.

The difference is, often, that it won't usually cause trauma for teenage boys. I suppose that's a little sexist, and I don't have any statistics to back that up, but I know the demographic, some.

You sure about that? That's not just a little sexist, it's very.

I'll go back to my original point. These things are decided on a case by case basis. Suppose Johnny and Mary both committed the exact same crime, in the exact same circumstances, subject to the exact same law... you get the picture. Then I would be mad if they got different sentencing based on gender or some such factor.

Er, it should be noted that the age of consent in Japan is a rather wonky set of laws that depend a great deal on where you are and who you are.

There is a good chance that the boys she did were not traumatized by the incident, but there is also a chance that girls who had sex with male teachers were also not traumatized. However, the teacher is in both cases abusing their position. In the case I believe this thread is about, in particular, the teacher had access to all the students' records and deliberately selected students whom she knew it would be easy to seduce. And likewise with my first point, there are also many boys who would not want to screw their teachers (I am a teenager myself and I personally wouldn't because associating teachers with sex does not really mix for me). Either way, it is not only statutory rape but it also abuses a position of authority no matter what the gender of the teacher and student is. The people who say the teacher should be let off (who otherwise wouldn't had it been the other way around gender wise) are sexist. They likely believe that girls are far more likely to refuse sex while males would "never pass it up". This is why the "court of public opinion" does not have valid legal status.

Florida gave probation to a woman teacher for sex with a 15 year old male student, while earlier that year they gave a male teacher a 10 to 20 year sentence for sex with a 16 year old girl.

The court said "This is a victimless crime; the boy had a great time".

The double standard lives on.

Some of those students of yours in Japan look a little tempting ?

It is, to my mind, akin to saying that men cannot be raped because we're just all horndogs.

wow, Neruv i have respect for you!

Yeah, I respect him for agreeing with me too. ;)

Just as long as it isn't Mary Sue.

To be honest it is to me solely about professional misconduct.

But as an aside, do US schools really maintain detailed psychological reports on every pupil. That seems intensely sinister to me.

Probably not, but they could do so in the case of serious abuses like this.

I do know of schools who will expel potential victims of bullying. They say these kids are in themselves an incitement to disorder.

It happened before my own eyes in Johnstown PA.
