At the time, nothing. My parents were clearly distressed and I had just watched the whole incident play out live (I was about 5 or 6, and I got up at 5:30 every day to watch CNN or the Today Show, usually the latter. Since I was on the West Coast, I saw it live.). It was only later I grasped the full impact of what happened.

Now? Well, there's still pain from what happened, but I'm more or less saddened by the fact that all our unity went to waste.

I was 13 on 9/11/01, and the first thing I remember about the day is my Mom waking me up and saying that the World Trade Centre had been bombed. I actually thought nothing of it because I could somewhat remember the 1993 bombing and figured it was similar to that. A couple of minutes later, Mom said it was on fire, and I got up and saw the towers ablaze, and I realised at that moment there was probably no saving them or the people inside them. No tears, just a stunned numbness that lasted for a good chunk of the day. It also symbolises the day that America and much of the western world went back into Cold War mode in many respects by falling into a temporary hysteria followed by a long-term suspicion of "outsiders", which we still haven't overcome.

At the time, nothing in particular. I wasn't in the United States and my dad was in Dallas.

However, as the Iraq war and other events unfolded I began to comprehend what 9/11 actually meant for America. I was 16 years old when I started to take in the entirety of the significance of 9/11 in our foreign and domestic policy.

Well I was only two at the time so I don't remember much. Basically in my view it was the first event of a series of events that ruined the first part of the 21st century. At this point in time most people that are my age view 9/11 as a meme

Its what really highlighted to me as a non American how far the US government and its Pentagon attack dog were willing to go to decieve the American public and committ horrific false flag operations for the sake of justifying a creeping police state and foreign war, Bush just took a page from how America justified the Spanish American war, and that greed disgusts me.

My dad, honestly, is one of the believers in a sort of "inside job" theory.

However, he doesn't believe in the "detonation" theory of how the towers collapsed. He's got a more refined theory behind it all which, while I disagree with it, I can respect given it doesn't exactly pull unrealistic claims.

As a Latin American, I can tell you your government are no saints when it comes to some of the shady shit they have pulled in the past.

So many people out of the U.S. view the whole thing that it wasn't an inside job with a pinch of salt given their history with the United States. I am not a conspiracy theorist myself, believing that the truth will eventually come out and redeem either party in the eyes of the world. However, there's a good amount of skepticism behind the claim that the U.S. had nothing to do with it given its historical background and the lengths it has gone at times.

I disagree with it being "obvious".

The Guatemalan syphilis experiment wasn't "too obvious" and yet here we are.

The reality is that the insider theories have little to no direct obvious evidence. They do have historical support to conclude that perhaps people should be skeptical given the U.S. track record of shady shit, but they don't have any conclusive evidence towards the claim.

Like his intelligence even matters, he was indeed dumb, but it doesn't mean that the whole American government is dumb, there are smart people there as well. All he needed was to give an order, planning and executing it was someone else's job.

I'd simply add that nationalists have blind faith in a certain image that they have of their nation. I've noticed that many nationalists claim to love their country while simultaneously despising huge swaths of the people that make it up.

Indeed. Anyone perceived as "the other", and depending on your level of nationalism that could be 80% of the entire country, is tantamount to being a traitor simply because they are perceived as being degenerates trying to tear apart the fabric of society and impose a new order on the good nationalists just trying to "protect" the American way of life.
