So after alot of consideration and some prodding from co workers, I'm going to actually vote for once, and put it in for Jill Stein. I don't agree with her completly and I probably won't make a difference, but maybe we can at least get more then two choices

Looks like the Russians are already hacking a couple state's election systems. I'm sure they're in no way trying to throw the election to Donald.

Let's see... start with the DNC voter contact database, and then delete from the registration rolls every voter that the DNC considers likely to support the Party in the fall.

Seriously, though, if you were the Russians and you wanted to fuck America good and hard, and do it in a way that would damage the country for generations to come, wouldn't that be the perfect way to do it? I mean, to elect your own Manchurian Siberian Candidate would be a huge coup, but it would be an even BIGGER coup if the American people KNEW that you'd hacked their election. The losers would have no recourse (because there's no provision under American law for such an election to be "re-run") and the winners would lack legitimacy. At the same time, the winners would be EXTREMELY unlikely to step aside and make compromise arrangements to "make good" the injury (I mean, can you imagine Republicans winning by a landslide, learning that their victory was hacked, and then saying, "Well, we'll just step aside and try to build a National Unity Coalition with the Democrats"? No? Well, neither can I...). Instead, the winners would resort to mealy-mouthed rationalizations about how we should just "move on" in spite of the injustice, and let them govern anyway, and that "next time" it will be better; in the meantime, the losers would be fit to be tied, ready to take to the streets, and demand "justice". At some point, the GOP would realize that the next truly fair election would be their last, and they'd be SO very tempted to end elections altogether, or (failing that) to find some pretext for denying Democrats the right to vote ("I mean, it's not right, but we really don't have a choice. It's our political SURVIVAL, and we CAN'T let the Democrats get power after this... they'd DESTROY us!"). The damage and the chaos would go on for decades, with no one having faith in elections or in the electoral system ever again.

Add in as a bonus the fact that all of this would finally shut those damned Americans up about "free and fair elections" and "open political discourse" once and for all, and it's just too good a play to resist. I mean, if they're caught, it's not like America is going to go to war with Russia over this, right? Election hacking isn't one of those "bright and shining lines" that we've laid out as grounds for starting up World War III, after all...

I hope they can't succeed at this, but in the back of my mind, I'm really concerned that they basically already have.

Well this has been a concern for more than a decade now and no one has spent a dime trying to prevent it. Apparently no one is really worried that the bedrock foundation of our government is easily manipulated. More fun to pass meaningless Voter ID laws.
