Given the success of my thread on cultural imperialism, I have decided to take a break from posting news articles on this glorious shell of knowledge and instead try to foment some discussion in order for me to better enjoy the flow of ideas this forum provides us. Therefore, I have chosen a subject that although bland, deeply divides this collective of great minds we call NationStates General: the question of white privilege. Yes, I've said! Through colonialism, imperialism and other forms of economic, political and cultural predation, Europeans and their settler nations have shaped the world in their image, in detriment of pretty much everyone else.

Thus, I come here to ask you a few questions, NSG: is white privilege an invention by those stupid, tumblr-using SJWs? Do white people enjoy certain privileges in many countries in the world, including non-Western ones? How do you explain the economic affluence of the white minority in countries like South Africa and Jamaica? Or, given the fact that the vast majority of you live in Western Europe or the States, that black Americans are 19 times more likely to live in concentrated poverty than poor white Americans? Is the whole fabric of American society based on white supremacy? Comment below. It may take a while for me to respond because I'm making popcorn.

I think it exists, yeah. I haven't personally FELT like I'm overly privileged (Living in the US-equivalent to Siberia or Australia will make you feel like you're equally as shitty as everyone else), but I can see some bias from time to time.

It exists, but is overstated, and in some areas there are disadvantages to being white, especially if working class.

I can't speak for other countries, but white privilege is definitely in the US. Black people are poor in comparison to white people in general. Since the cost of higher education is so high and highschool really only gets you our crappy minimum wage, it's almost impossible to climb up the economic latter. Though this effects poor whites as well, this effects black people the most.

Good for you. If you're black or latino, your chances of being wrongfully convicted, hurt or killed in police brutality, or having an excessively harsh sentence are much higher than for whites. Your simplistic view blames the victim rather than the perpetrator.

White privilege is cultural. Hence, it isn't universal.

Of course, white privilege exists. Though it has less to do with white being a preferential skin tone, and more to do with the fact that pale skin is associated with the dominant social class.

The only way to level out the playing field is to dress up and speak formally and charismatically. We are not, and will never be, color blind. But if you dress up and speak smoothly, maybe we will notice that before your skin color.
