We do, but you aren't forced to take it.

After the 7th grade, I refused to ever take that class again.

It might be good to take it, because you basically get your exercise for the day by taking the class. :)

Nobody ever showered at my school. We had showers in the locker room area but they are deactivated so nobody could shower even if they wanted to.

Why? What changed? It wasn't a big deal 25 years ago. :?

1)Feeling of shame when naked
2)Fear of being sexually harassed and assaulted

That, I think, sums up the reasons. Correct me, if I am wrong.

I can exercise on my own time. I don't need a class to force me to do it.

Besides, I'm already a senior, so it's kinda too late.

Oh, nice. Extra credits, other than P.E., are still good. Good luck graduating! I'm a senior, too. :)

I'm pretty sure the girls locker room has no shower.

If they do then maybe it works. The downstairs one doesn't work.

besides that place looks like a run of the mill public shower

My school has showers for both change rooms. There are shower stalls for girls, but public shower space for boys.

And if they do shower, they keep their boxers on. Silly prudes.
(and I always wonder if they keep wearing a wet one all day long...)

My school had them but they werent allowed to be used. I dont understand why they didnt have stalls then I would have showered but it was just kinda a big group clusterfuck. I mean I even asked the girls about theirs and they had one half stall that they usually only used to rinse hair and neck but they didnt use the communal one either.

The whole group shower thing just seems weird to me.

I attended an American high school 30+ years ago, in an East Coast state.

No one showered after PE, at least not in the boys' locker room; which made the 'towel fee' that I believe our parents had to pay wildly unnecessary.

For the sake of comparison, I also attended secondary/high schools in two northern European countries. In Iceland, PE was optional, but everyone showered. My school in Scotland was a tiny private school in Edinburgh, and those of us who were boarders were generously allowed to take a bath twice a week.

We had two hours of PE under the fucking sun. We didn't mind washing up. We just changed clothes after wiping our sweat and continued with our shit.

I think its primarily to do with cost-cutting. Private stalls cost money. But group showers where you have a pole with 4 shower heads hanging off it are the best.

It's actually rather funny because they removed the group shower and replaced them with private stalls at my school much to the anger of many. Feels awkward as F to talk to your mate who you can't see.

Our school's gym has showers-4 for the boys, 4 for the girls. Barely used.

Not for you guys, maybe. The female part of our species tends to have a better sense of smell on average, so they might disagree.

I rarely showered after sport in secondary school, simply because very few others did. I occasionally showered if we were forced by a teacher, and I'd shower if I got very muddy, wet and sweaty after playing rugby, but if we were just playing basketball or tennis or something, I wouldn't shower.

They still haven't allocated a budget for shower stalls?
