Filipino transgender went back straight. Thoughts?

This can be a challenging diagnosis. The presenting problem may seem to be gender dysphoria, but what if it is something else, such as body dysphoria? I am concerned about a particular transgender person who simply never seems happy; the problem does not seem to be "ordinary" depression, but no changes have brought much relief so far.

It is unlikely this kid ever had a "diagnosis" of any kind. More likely while trying to hustle on the streets he was pegged as effeminate and found he could make more of a living as a she.

It is most likely the case of an orphaned boy forced to live on the streets of manila taking up gay prostitution in order to survive. now that he doesn't need that he can be whatever he wants and what he wants is to be a good Christian straight boy. it could also, of course, be a true transgender boy now forced to be a good straight Christian boy in order to keep his new nice life going.

time will tell but we'll likely never find out.

I'm not surprised. Though I'm not at all unsympathetic to actual transgender people, I think the effort to make them and their issues visible leads to stuff like this. With gay and lesbian people, all you have to do is treat them as you would anyone else, but if you want recognition, you actually have to do something. Kids today (and probably always) want to be special and they want it with a minimum of effort. The different gender orientations have been a godsend to kids who are totally unremarkable but want some kind of recognition or special treatment which once had to come from being very intelligent, athletic or at least a Down's syndrome mongoloid. All you have to do is say "I'm [trendy gender identity]" and you get attention, probably people to watch over you in case some ignorant person tries to attack you and maybe even your own private washroom. You're like a star!

In addition to the little special snowflakes are kids who are genuinely confused about themselves. There are also people with political and personal motives out there looking to take advantage of you, either confusing you further or saying "yes, you are transgender, now close your mind to any other possibilities". One of the most egregious examples is the website transsexual.org, run by someone whose idiocy, narcissism and need for attention has warranted a pretty extensive Encyclopedia Dramatica page. It features a test that relies on stereotypes and pretty much tells you you're feminine (probably another product of the author's sloppy thinking and narcissism) if you're not a lumberjack or a marine. The shitty design of the site may cause some people to think it's a joke, but scary enough, it's 100% serious.
