The ladies was being cleaned because apparently, it had been left in appalling condition. So I asked a waited if I could use the men's and his response was a mostly bored, 'go for it.'
The world did not end, and except for having a urinal as well as the commode, and having poorer lighting, it was pretty much the same mundane experience as using the ladies'.
I don't see, really, that it matters WHAT bathroom one uses, as long as one can relieve oneself. The world didn't end nor did the urinal explode because my XX chromosomes were in the vicinity; I doubt anything would stop working in the ladies' if XY chronosomes were present.

Men won't care if ladies go into the Men's. Ladies might care if men go into the Ladies', as I have mentioned earlier.

Unless they are looking under the stall, or climbing on their commode to look at me over the top of the stall, I really don't care. Piss is piss, and shit is shit. The guys may have to deal with the additional scents left with pads and tampons, but hey, they can handle it. We do.

Segregated bathrooms are generally nothing but a nuisance for us. Most of the time it works out fine with us going in though, usually managers are very understanding, but it means I'm pretty much firmly on board with ending the nonsense as it were. I tend to be constantly on guard for the kind of person who wants to make a big deal out of it. Quite frankly I don't really see the point in it, it offers problems to some people, and zero effective solutions to anything, so why bother with it?

I understand your plight and respect it; however, I think your situation is mutually exclusive, as far as segregated bathrooms are concerned. There are family/handicap bathrooms that allow entry of women and/or men.

They tend to be few and far between, unfortunately, though I'd imagine they'd be more ubiquitous with an end to the segregation. After all, I'd bet there'd be greater demand for private restroom availability, so that's another plus as far as I'm concerned.

However, since each private restroom takes a great deal of space, I am not sure whether private bathrooms will be favored in the eyes of architects and contractors.

Market demand tends to drive this sort of thing, if the demand increases, the architects and contractors will follow suit.

Infected Mushroom wrote:There is another problem. It is unfair for the females. Females generally wait longer than males to use the facilities; this is discrimination. I can speak from personal experience. Having traveled to many parts of the planet it always seems the case that the line-up for the female side is much longer. Why is this? Well its because of the design. Facilities are separate but NOT equal. Male facilities have exclusive access to urinals and so the line up is shorter. The true solution to equality is to have one bathroom for all genders and to remove the urinals (females can't use them anyway and they provide an unfair advantage to a set of the population in wait time). This way, EVERYONE gets an average wait time for relief that is approximately equal and that isn't affected by the availability of equipment. You can still maintain two washrooms per building but EVERYONE should be allowed to use either one and they should both be completely stocked with bowls.

Meh. I still don't think that bathrooms should be desegged. Just make the bathrooms bigger. Won't that be fairer for the females, anyway? If you always needed evidence for everything, you would get nowhere. "I'm pretty sure Taylor Lautner is a female. Why? Her name is 'Taylor.'" Sheesh. Don't you ever get anywhere?
