What? I didn't see any "romantic involvement" in the couple of times I saw the movie.

No.

You've confused The Last Temptation of Christ and The Passion of the Christ.

The first is a Martin Scorsese film that features Jesus dreaming, during the crucifixion, of an alternative life where he married Mary Magdalene; said dream is a deliberate attempt by Satan to tempt Jesus, hence the name of the film.

The second is a Mel Gibson film portraying the final days of Jesus leading up to and including the crucifixion from the perspective of a profoundly conservative Catholic.

What many people forget is that the Last Temptation doesn't actually show Jesus falling in love with Mary Magdelene, but rather being deliberately tempted by a detailed vision of what might have happened had he lived his life as a mortal man.

Other than the fairly heavy whiff of Arianism and/or Adoptionism in the closing scenes of the Last Temptation, in many ways it's a considerably more nuanced and less objectionable film than the very partial torture porn of The Passion of the Christ.

The amount of heresy in this thread is astonishing.
I am just going to lay it out here, I am going to be very blunt.

Still the Satan portrayed in Passion was honestly the most interesting character in the movie.

If you want to see a good Christian movie, look for Woodlawn. It is coming out on the 16 of October, or as others might say: Tomorrow.

But, you know that the bible never details any of that happening...

1. I ain't giving up on Christianity just yet.

2. Not even in my darkest nightmares do I see myself as belonging to the group the sort of person that would call themselves "more spiritual than religious" would. Nothing against those people, but I am simply a radically different type of person.

3. Non-Abrahamic spirituality is uninteresting, bland and overall not something worth getting involved in to me as a person. The ideals simply do not click with me.

I originally had a similar view to yours on the Passion, the main reason I changed my mind is that someone drew an analogy with the horrors of war. The Passion doesn't pull any punches on Christ's suffering, and I think the shock makes some people see it as like the Saw movies or something, but I don't think many people cry while watching the torture in the Saw films.

As for The Last Temptation, I am not sure how you can be so lenient on it. I appreciate the film as art in its own sake, but if you took it as a Christian film, it would be enormously heretical. I mean, Christ convinces Judas to betray him in the film. And I don't see how you can find a depiction of Christ having sex as less objectionable than a graphic depiction of Christ's Passion, at least from a purely religious perspective (as opposed, to say, a parental perspective),

One would hope that's why Pope Francis is allowing this circus to occur at the Synod. To expose the liberal cardinals for being heretics.

That's what I'm hoping.
The liberal bishops in Lebanon felt so emboldened that they started preaching to their congregations that Satan doesn't exist.
Took the threat of laicization from our patriarch to mute them; albeit temporarily...

Church Of Christ

Postby Northern Freikur » Thu Oct 15, 2015 2:28 pm

Yes, this is a Church of Christ thread. Yes, I want us to revive the Christianity of the bible. And, yes I am a member of a congregation which strives for biblical accuracy (And as far as I know, we do fairly well).

No, we are not a denomination (Although there are congregations who agree with each other on being biblical, so yes and no.). No, there is no "One Guy at the top" making the decisions in place of God.

And I will certainly not surrender to atheists, denominations, or "Progressive Christian" movements.

Are there any of my brothers and sisters in Christ who would like to comment? This is a general Christian discussion, so any subject is fine, as long as it's biblical.
Even when I contradict myself, I am right.
