The younger and newer user base seems to think it's all about post counts. Absurd, I know. Post count is not a measure of how well you post or how people will like you. It's just a number. IMO, that is. And I should talk, I have too many damned posts.

Too many egos. People running communities, thinking they were gods in their own right. It got boring. Turned who I considered nice people into very nasty self-centred individuals. I didn't have time for that.

I understand if it can seem a little intimidating if you're new, and you see a lot of posters with high post counts, but TET has always been very welcoming of newcomers, provided they mix well with everyone. Just drop in and say hi. We don't bite. Well, much.

The old guard of TET tends to easily have more than 10K posts, but that is because we've been around for a while. We could have done something worthwhile with that time, but clearly we decided otherwise. Old guard some of us may very well be, role models less so.

People getting to know you. Yup. The more often you post in TET, the more people will recognize you and engage you. And by more often I don't mean spam post. We don't like that.

There's also the expectation that we must leap over every single discussion. Some discussions don't interest me, and posters who bring those topics regularly are people I don't tend to talk to. Not out of intent to ignore, but because I have nothing to say on the topic. I see how this leads to the cliquish reputation, but we're human, not encyclopedias.

I think it doesn't help that when you're part of what you've termed the Old Guard, you know more people in the thread and, therefore, get involved in more conversations... which is why the post counts tend to be higher. This is particularly true if you were an ET regular when it was one thread done and dusted every few days.

And yet, Lordie, that's exactly what several people have said about TET. Cliques and elitism. I don't know, I don't think there's an elite. There may be cliques but, well, that's normal. You gravitate towards certain people and not others, there's nothing wrong with that.
