You know what I remember? The MSN chatrooms. Oh hohohoh! Those bring back memories.

Of shame and fun. Fun and shame. Did you enjoy Messenger's ''I'm Not Here'' automessages?

I never used the chat rooms much. I had more than enough contacts to keep me busy.

I vaguely remember them. MSN Messenger had some great features. It was built for chatting. Skype, not so much. I just don't like it for chatting at all. Voice calls, sure, but I only use Skype because of work, mainly.

I enjoyed the fact that you could play short mp3s as replies to messages. That was fun. :p

Not sure I understand that. The FPS should make no difference to the speed, provided it's constant.

There were all sorts of mods for MSN Messenger. It was the superior platform for chatting. Pity it just lost popularity. I guess it sort of became its own Myspace in the end.

Yeah. I suppose my fondness of it has more to do with the people I knew through it. It's where my life online began, really. Met a bunch from a wandering online group in an online game one day, got to know them, and became a member of the community. It was great. But then it drifted apart after a few years. People moved on. I moved on. Just the way it goes.

Did you kept in touch with any of them? I sadly lost track of pretty much all my MSN contacts, save 2 or 3 that I met when MSN also offered the MSN Live Spaces. Do you remember those? This was circa 2005.

The younger and newer user base seems to think it's all about post counts. Absurd, I know. Post count is not a measure of how well you post or how people will like you. It's just a number. IMO, that is. And I should talk, I have too many damned posts. :p

No, I didn't. I kind of felt it was time to move on, as well. I never used Live Spaces, but I vagely remember it. I was a member of a couple of MSN Groups, though. I ditched those once I realised how seriously people took them.

I think people keep making this assumption about TET, and it needs to be addressed.

When you get to a certain post count, you really, really don't care any more. It's utterly meaningless. You focus on what people say. It's not a bloody country club. If you have something interesting to contribute or say, then you'll fit right in. You can't expect everyone to answer your every post, either. That goes for everyone, but if you're new, it might seem like you're being ignored. That's not it. A lot of people here are regulars. The more often you post here, the more of a regular you'll become. That's just natural.

I get a little tired of the assumption that it's some sort of popularity contest. I understand if it can seem a little intimidating if you're new, and you see a lot of posters with high post counts, but TET has always been very welcoming of newcomers, provided they mix well with everyone. Just drop in and say hi. We don't bite. Well, much.

On a serious note, yeah. It's not a popularity contest, it's just posters dropping by, shooting the breeze for a bit, having a few laughs, without the rigidity of debate.
