Feminism: The War on Feminism

So over the course of many...many...many years, the definition of feminism has changed very...very...very much. I mean the dictionary hasn't changed but you know what I mean. Anyway, feminism has gone from housewives aspiring to be working wives or working women and not just someone's wife to irritating thirteen year-olds on Tumblr who make a big deal over everything thinking reblogs are going to save the world.

Due to think fabulous change, feminism has become the "new f word", so to speak. When someone hears the new f word, the picture that comes to their head is a fat, unshaven, bra burning, man hating, rape accusing, stomping lesbian or that thirteen year old on Tumblr I mention a little earlier which, in my opinion, is causing more drawbacks than progress in feminism.

On the forums I've seen the same thing. People constantly viewing feminism as this man hating and rape accusing guerrilla terrorist attack on men in order to make them slaves while the original plot of feminism is to make the each sex equal both in treatment and in view.

In my opinion, the real reason that people view feminism in such a disgusted way is not because these people hate women but because they see the wrong people as the face of feminism making it a stereotype than the actual meaning of modern-day feminism (i.e. Those thirteen year-olds on Tumblr I keep mentioning). This could be viewed as the "modern feminism" but it is not the feminism that is bringing equality in society to both sexes.

So NSG let's get down to business. What are your opinions? Why do you think feminism has become the "new f word" and if so, why? Why do you think people hate feminism so much?

Edit: This thread is NOT about whether you agree with feminists, if feminists are right or wrong, and in no way trying to put down women. This thread is simply about whether you believe feminism is a dirty word or not and why and what is causing people to view feminism in a bad way. Please read the OP carefully to avoid any misunderstandings.

I don't think Feminism has become the new "F" word quite the contrary; its a movement that even within the last few years has grown in momentum and lots more people talk about and are openly (for want of a better word) Feminists.

Simultaneously though there is a growing and loud element to the Feminist movement which is rude and bullying and doesn't do itself any favors.

The term has become misunderstood. Women being treated as equal to men is good. I think the majority of people would agree with this. The problem is, the word "feminism" has become associated with women becoming dominant, and treating men as inferior. I think most would agree with me that this is not what we want at all. I can speak from experience, I thought I was anti-feminist until I did some research into the subject. There's an important difference between feminists and so called "femi-Nazis"

Anyone can say whatever they want, I'm not the idea police. I'm saying you can't be a feminist if you don't respect all women* because then you're just replicating the oppression you're attempting to undo.
