Yes, to an extent.

Gameplay wise, it'll never be like any console games (definitely) or even anything beyond "Minesweeper." However, it's a fun activity that does give me extra long term goals that are frivolous but feel good when accomplished.

On the forums, I believe that debating helps me sharpen my overall philosophy and political beliefs and make them more effective by trying new ideas and then discarding what is easily disproven or is obviously stupid.

How did I join the game? I was looking for create your own Kingdom that wasn't chatty but also was more fun, and this was the only option. I joined as Iraqialand, initially answered some issues, then joined the forums, starting out in II, where I hung out. Then I ragequited in early 2010, and rejoined as Khorata, initially staying in the RP forums, but gradually expanding onto NSG, then after DEAT in August, lurked a bit until late 2010 when I joined as Syvorji, but the RP side quickly got boring (boring to RP with your RL views, IMO) and I became more involved on NSG.

Then in late 2011, I decided to switch nations to this one, and I'm now more NSG than RPer, though I do RP quite often.

As for the regions, the first I truly remember as my own was the Commonwealth of Crowns in late-2010, which was rather fun, but after having too many puppets and not declaring 'em, I fled and the region banned me, before wandering a bit before joining Illuscinora in mid-2011, which eventually died out (around the time I joined as Luziyca). Then after a while, I settled down in Esquarium, and save for a few blips, Esquarium is my home. When I first moved a puppet to there (well, Atlaea), they were tiny puppet regions with only a few nations, but after they were merged as well as Swilantis, it began growing, and I eventually joined in, evolving to over 250 nations at its peak, and serving as delegate a few times. I'm never going to leave Esquarium with this nation.

I agree with this, however, it's more most of the people that participated in the same threads as me have gone. While a lot of those conversations were terrible and made me dislike NSG, there were enough to like a lot.

The game itself? I guess I liked it for a week or something.

Well what I was getting at is that NSG isn't really a liberal hive of anything. There are lots of people who aren't liberal in the slightest and don't get instantly ejected.

I'm not sure. There are some threads that used to be a lot more evenly weighted in terms of "sides" with each side convinced the other was ascendant. Then a bunch of one side left so what they complained about has sort of happened, which is boring.

Bad Nostalgia moment I know, but I sort of miss the old Jolt days.

It was kinda exciting to know that, that beautiful post you spent the last hour working on was gone forever, only you didn't know that at the time because it would be three {3} days before you could use the forum again with everything in the prior 24 hours being posted erased, lost forever, never to be seen again.

Nationstates was different too, for one it was NationDates and two not being able to log into your nation was a great time saver thanks to the former.

Edit: Also, there was an actual in game United Nations. Remember the United Nations folks, yeah I don't either since it was all a big April Fools Event.

But, I'm still here so I'm hoping the question you asked at the beginning is self-apparent.

After being here for 2 years, I wrote about my experience of being in NationStates for 2 years.

2 years yeah.

The puppet name focusing on Britain was clever.

And I gotta say the detailed dispatch nearly had me.

But you gotta try harder than that to fool me Britonesa or should I say...Max Barry.

I have indeed enjoyed this little scientific experiment that I set up back in 2002.

You can look forward to reading the results in my forthcoming peer-reviewed paper 'A Decade of NationStates; Website Discussion as a Socialisation Tool for Teenagers', to be published in the International Journal of Psychological Manipulation

I suppose it is technically unethical for me to have experimented on so many people without their consent (or indeed the consent of their guardians), but given that I moved my legal domicile to Somaliland in 2007 in anticipation of this very problem, you'll find it very very hard to extradite me or sue me. It's just a shame it's so boring here in Hargeisa.

Oh, and 'Max Barry' is a fictional character I made up as part of an elaborate ruse to make this experiment as convincing as possible to the subjects; those books he allegedly wrote are actually produced by a exceptionally advanced piece of computer software developed by the site programmers (with EU funding from a Marie Curie grant), and I hire an actor (also via the EU funding) to play 'Max'.

Despite my revealing this, the experiment will continue to work for the simple reason that none of you will believe me even after this big reveal; I plan on ending the experiment on the 25th anniversary, though (so in late 2027). By then I should be able to get a book out of it - not to mention a lot of chat show appearances if I can leave Hargeisa without being sued or arrested. I haven't yet decided whether I'll keep the website running or not at that point, though; I'll see how the internet develops over time before making a final decision.

I like this game but sometimes I must take distance from it. I'm very deeply addicted to Nationstates R/D gameplay after nearly 4 years in it, being active in that aspect all my time in this game. I curse my Dear friend who once introduced me to this game. :P

When I started play my main reason was use NS for learning more English but that aim soon became secondary thing for me, when other reasons took place instead. After founding Antifa and being active in the Eternal Anti-Fascist war few years I moved forward in R/D scenes becoming raider in The Black Riders. Now my path directs toward increasing raider purity of practical raiding within ranks of several notorious raider organisations.

I felt always being alone, but still slowly learning more and better English.

I will probably die in Real life when being online in NS, that deep addiction I was able develop to this magnificent game.

Don't ignore all the commies, nazi's and anarchists. That isn't nice.

Yeah, Nazis have feelings too! It hurts our self-esteem when people ignore us. :(

@OP: I do like NS, but not as much as I used to. We've lost a lot of the more mature intellectual posters and the more whacky white nationalists, and I kind of miss both groups. When there were more whacky white nationalists, I had more material to work with for my Nazi jokes. I also just had more enthusiasm for my Nazi schtick because it was new. The last couple of years, I think I have run out of steam. (The last couple of weeks, I've been posting with a puppet more than NFP because I'm just not that excited about being a Nazi anymore.)

I originally spent most of my time in NSG, but this year, I've been spending more time in A&F because the quality of debate in NSG has declined, and even the threads that aren't idiotic tend to cover the same subjects again and again. I sometimes get bored of the repetition.

yes, I like to hate people equally.
Pro: tolerance, individualism, technocratism, democratism, freedom, freedom of speech and moderate religious expression, the ban on hate speech, constitutional monarchism, the Rhine model
Against: intolerance, radicalism, strong discrimination, populism, fascism, nazism, communism, totalitarianism, authoritarianism, absolutarianism, fundamentalism, strong religious expression, strong nationalism, police states

If you like philosophy, then here you can see what your own philosophical alignements are.

Its funny how people can see things from different perspectives even what comes to Forum activity. For me personally it is still hard see forum-side of the NS as a game because whole time in NS has been very In-game oriented. Actually I feel that I must be active on the R/D gameplaying fields to be able to justify few Forum Comments. Post count does mean to me only 'number of efforts' trying rant something - more or less readable - in English, not much else. Usually my forum comments are directly related to in-game happenings and/or game mechanics... and Puppets are only tools and means for me, not aims itself.

If someone asks It would not make any harm to anything if there would not be forum post counts at all, as they do not measure anyway in-game activity from my perspective to this game.
