I'm not sure, but if the gun he carried was purely ceremonial and not loaded then it's an understandable.

As for the attack, it's only the second I've heard of. Most of what I read and see is gang-related violence.

No. Absolutely no. As someone who was in cadets and had to hold an unloaded rifle, there's plenty of times when you're either holding it or leaning on it where you're glad it wasn't loaded.

The guy had a knife and police shot him. Plus, the police announced yesterday they had him under surveillance and had taken his passport away. That does not sound like some crazy war vet.

I'll give you three guesses as to what the actual perpetrator of that attack looked like, and the first two don't count.
