I'm beginning to wonder if there are any actual women here who have anything to say about this.

Yes. If the US wants such a system, all citizens should participate.

As a permanent resident of the US I had to register for the Selective Service after I turned 18 - I think if it stands, women should have to register too. Otherwise, and more preferably, the selective service should be removed all together.

No, I said people have to have a stake in society.

Part of this is being eligible for the draft (not necessarily serving). There are other things that constitute having a stack in society; notable, one should also have the legal duty to participate in the legal system to the fullest extent that a non-legal professional can be expected (i.e. not just following the law, but also serving on juries and such), etc.

Instead, you strawman my position.

I do not support the draft being enacted.
But in times of desperation a nation will probably utilize it.

So yes. Women should have to sign up too. After all, they want that male privilege right?

No, and neither should men, except in crisis situations.

As long as men have to, women should, though. That should be obvious.

You should get rid of SS altogether. But you know, since it's there, and everyone's screaming equality, I fully support women being forced to sign up for it the same as men.

Yeah, women should have to sign up for selective service just as men have to. While folks may or may not support the concept of selective service, the distinction to me is immaterial. While it exists and continues to have effects on people, it should apply equally to both sexes.

Drafting people in an event that is highly unlikely to occur, and if it were to occur, you'd be drafted regardless of whether SS was in place.
So...

There won't be much of a party system left in the event anyway.

The instance that SS will be used to implement a draft will most likely be a European ground war and/or in response to a strategic nuclear exchange. The two may well go hand in hand.

Selective service should be abolished on the grounds that it is indefensible to compel an individual to kill another against their wishes. In the meantime however, everyone should be required to sign up for sake of equality rather than OP's notion that rights have to be earned.

Killing is not a requirement of military service. There are thousands of noncombatant or low-intensity combat roles. Conscientious objector status is still a thing and has been issued to some thousands in the twentieth century.
Studies were done after WWII, though since cast doubt upon, that suggested that only one in five combat-serving infantrymen ever discharged their weapons. Similar studies, performed slightly later, suggested that approximately 2% of the infantry perform 50% of the killing.

These are the men who win themselves medals. They are exceptional and their standards are expected of no-one.
