But about as effective a defense weapon as a suicide bomb vest.

Refer to my post on the previous page.

Strategic nuclear exchange is not an immediate threat from any likely escalation in the war in east Ukraine.

It's not effective at all, because the KKK are a bunch of physical persons which are subject to law. Russia as a State has the right to protect its interests just like any other in the world.

I see let Putin do whatever he wants with that God-forsaken land that is Ukraine. Putin does not have the right to protect it's "interests" if those interests violate international law and involve oppressing the Ukrainian people.

Just more paranoid sensationalist bullshit!

How is

"Thank God, I think no one is thinking of unleashing a large-scale conflict with Russia. I want to remind you that Russia is one of the leading nuclear powers."

equal to

Russia threatens nuclear war against all NATO members

huh?

What is more important (and what was glossed over by the staunch pro-Ukrainian patriots) was this:

However, while Ukraine's prime minister, Arseny Yatseniuk said on Friday that Ukraine would now seek to join Nato, sources within the organisation said that it would be unlikely happen. Any such move would oblige Nato to come to Ukraine's immediate defence against Russia.

A Nato source said: "Ukraine is not an ally. Nato may respect Ukraine's decision if it seeks membership but the Alliance is not going to accelerate in that direction."

Really? NATO expansion in Eastern Europe and forward missile deployments aren't meant to contain and intimidate Russia? I think both sides need to evaluate what year it is, cuz it's not 1960.

American F-15s of the 555th fighter wing, a nuclear-capable unit responsible for the Italian stockpile of B-61 nuclear bombs, were deployed to Polish bases in March of this year in response to the Crimea tensions.

The US did not fight a "nuclear war" with Japan.
Largely because Japan had no way of reciprocating a "nuclear war".

The US dropped two nuclear weapons on Japanese cities, simulating the effects of a very large incendiary bombing raid with individual munitions.
That is all.

The title is certainly sensationalist, but Putin mentioning Russia's nuclear arsenal like that isn't an innocent comment. It'd be like Obama (Or, for a more likely candidate, Bush) talking about how 'thankful' he is that Iran hasn't went head-to-head with 'one of the world's foremost nuclear powers'. The world would be in an uproar over a comment like that. Shit, you'd probably be hard-pressed to find Republicans who'd support a comment like that. It's nuclear dick-waving, and it's the sort of shit that was supposed to stop when everyone agreed that MAD was absolutely mad.

The only reason we had the "balls" to use a nuclear weapon is because we knew no one else had one.

And another thing, if you are serious about correlating bravery, or having "balls", with dropping a nuclear weapon, then maybe you should find some friends among the Vladimir Putin Fan Club, because they are the only people who actually agree with you.
