The institution of slavery was not the cause nor the driving force behind the Revolutionary War, though. People on both sides owned slaves.

The weird thing was that the British operated somewhat like the the Union during the Civil War, promising freedom for soldiers.

Not suggesting that's better... just saying the Confed's had some minor redemptive qualities given their position as a slaver nation.

Personally, down here in Mississipi, I rarely see the flag. Unless I see our state flag, of course.

I'm pretty sure I have heard of black soldiers in the CSA Army. And I'm sure most of the Native Americans in OK fought on the Confederacy's side as well...

Yeah... the story in my family goes that a couple of ancestors of mine fought for Louisiana. I don't know how much of the story (there is more to it than a mere, "was a slave then fought for the south") is made the fuck up as it's pretty much just a hand-me down story but, hey, it makes the more radicalized of my family feel better.

And yeah, the deal was that the loyal tribes would get an entire state - forever.

No, because maintaining the institution of slavery was not even remotely one of the reasons the American revolution was fought (the treasonous part does apply).

Whoa everybody, we all hate the flag, right? Or at least what it stands for?
All in all, the flag represents the South now, and there's really no reversing that.

I'm not some St. Andrews Cross waving southerner though, and I find it silly when people do. Especially way up here in Illinois where I moved to 4 years ago (seriously this is the land of Lincoln wtf). However, there are plenty of southern folk who are proud as hell of their part of the country, what they stand for right now, and southern culture in general that like to hang these flags too. It will go on like this too, unless another flag/banner replaces the old one as the "Flag of the South." Which would be a hard task to do.

Not really. That's inclusive to all of America. That's not exactly the same thing as being proud of living in the south.

It's like waving a Scottish flag in Scotland. While you're apart of the UK, you're expressing pride in your slice of the nation.
