Schools in tennessee k-8 not allowed to discuss gays.

Postby Underium » Sat Apr 23, 2011 7:03 pm

Ok There is this new bill in Tennessee going around right now that basically says, "Hey In our schools from now on, you cant mention, discuss or do anything with homosexuality." Full article here.

So NSG, I want to know what you think, and why you think they're trying to do this.

In my opinion I think its a bunch of utter bullshit and their a bunch of homophobes.

I think its a step in the right direction, but then again, turning a blind eye to society's problems isn't necessarily a good idea.

Seems to be the red states policy on sex education in general.

I'll be looking forward to the Tennessee Republicans piloting the program which seeks to expell gay-bashers from the schools then...

Not that that will happen. "Gay" and "Homo" will be perfectly allowed as long as it is used as a bullying tactic for homophobes to throw at their classmates...
Such heroic nonsense!

I guess, I can see that if your referring that discussing sexuality should normally be kept out of the classroom, but this just bans it all, but does nothing to heterosexuality, is our public education system that blind? That they think if they don't teach students then there wont be any homosexuality?

The way I see it, they should either teach that homosexuality is wrong or not discuss it at all.

sounds like a bunch of bullcrap. They're enforcing laws on the children that the children can't vote on to change, so it goes against the US constitution as well.

K-8 is excessive.

I vote for not discussing it at all. Schools have no right to change sexual views held by someone.

I see that it should be discussed from the standpoint that (1)they should not teach it as right or wrong, as it's not the school's place to teach religious morality, that's for parents and churches... and (2) It should be discussed because at least some of the student population is likely to be homosexual.

It also bans discussion of any kind, therefore if there's a big issue about it, they cannot discuss it.
