Now, I know that the vote thread is where everyone is, but I have a question for this thread. Now that it's happened, does anyone think that the Tories might put someone up to compete with Boris Johnson if, as is quite likely, Cameron ends up resigning today or over the next few days?

I think that they might. Even though the Brexiters in the party will have the dominant role, there might be a movement to put a more civil figure in place than him. As to who it might be, maybe Smith could return to the leadership if coaxed, or maybe Michael Gove could stand for the leadership.

BoJo is the brexit frontrunner and the frontrunner to the Public.

"Some guy" will be at best "who, why" and at worst, "they're trying to take down BoJo".

Well, speaking as an American, this has shown me that anything is possible on Election Day...at least the Tories have a clear majority in Parliament to avoid any possible mess.

Don't remind me about the US election.

A recession now as a result of the economic havoc this causes is likely only going to help Trump.
"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.

Well, no, not in the classical sense. My point was that anything can happen at the polls no mater what experts might say.

Does the European Community Act of 1972 need to be repealed before the UK leaves the EU?

Just about every act that Britain passed under EU auspices would have to be repealed unless the negotiations allow Britain to keep some things.

Cool, the Guardian had one that seemed to do it but I couldn't make head nor tail of their chart.

Does.

But it's purpose isn't taking the best choice. It's taking the most popular choice.

Anyway, sorry for the pro-EU Brits, it's a shame to see them go: but at least we finally got rid of the stupid Thatcher&Cameron rebates, of the continual whining and of the special-snowflaking. Let's hope that the other anti-union countries follow suit.

So here we go.
Boris will take the helm, and as the full economic consequences of the campaign he just led sinks in, people will go to Labour.

Then we've got a socialist prime minister.
With a bitching, whining, and complaining centre-right parliamentary party, so nothing will be accomplished.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

Better than going backwards like we have been doing tbh. But I doubt it. Pretty sure Boris will be PM and the country will go down the toilet

If Theresa May becomes PM I'll actually give up.

I appreciate all that the Brits are doing to make Americans feel better about their crazy politics. Damn sweet of you.

But maybe you could tone it down a bit?

So the next question is whether Cameron's successor calls a general election, after all the criticism of Gordon Brown for not holding one.
