I actually found it almost strange how supportive a lot of young Americans are of them. I grew up in a place where they seemed to be mocked, shunned or marginalized, so that was kind of seeming unusual for me.

We're an idealistic bunch who grew up in a country that prizes itself as the land of freedom and whatnot, and has adopted an increasingly expansive definition. Well, on the other side, environmentalism is so ingrained here that even the conservative parties support it, with one state governor even being member of the Green party. "Back to nature" isn't a recent fad here, but a part of the culture here since the 18th century.

This country has changed a lot in the past 60 years. I wouldn't say there is equity in all areas but we have made tremendous strides, which no one seems to remember .
