Why should we be like the rest of the world? The United States is exceptional in so many ways, and besides metrication means everything will cost more, and force us to use a confusing French system of measurement.

Oh, god. Not if you live in the NYC area (NY/NJ mostly and I guess CT). Make eye contact on an NYC subway and you'll wish you didn't. If you smile at someone walking by, it'd probably be seen as creepy, and might elicit an angry response depending who it is. We're naturally pretty unfriendly up here, though. (Although I think that a better thing to say is that people aren't superficial/friendly on the surface.) NYC definitely isn't in the Midwest or South.

I would say that's due to New York City being a very large place.

It's also a regional culture thing in the Northeast. New Englanders, including in small towns, will usually ignore you unless they have a real reason to start a conversation. They're mostly nice people, just less outgoing and talkative than Midwesterners or Southerners.

I came to realize how much America loves meat when I first got to Japan. Honestly, for an American omnivore leaning towards the carni- side, it's rough. Most meat tends to be of the avian variety, but it seems like only the Chinese get that Duck is love. And Duck is life. Truthfully, I am in awe at how many different ways there are to arrange vegetables, but it grows tiresome after a while. I read a list of odd American customs, and I had a giggle at some of them. Blowing ones nose at the dinner table is just a sign of bad manners, not American Exceptionalism... Anybody trying to tell you it's okay to do that is setting you up.

That was the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution. When a cop kills someone, it's because they believe that their safety is being threatened, not just for fun. We hate illegal immigrants, not all foreigners.
