Idk Im never optimistic about Starwars anymore but Disney did the Avengers, so maybe this will be decent and better then the other trilogy with Anakin and Jar Jar.

Can we really even call it a trilogy anymore? What's the word for a series with nine parts? Nonology?

Fitting, considering "NO NO" is the first thought for most of us.

If all the lasers have been replaced wih nerf-guns, Miley Cyrus is the new Padme, Stormtrooper song and dance, and Mickey Mouse as the new head of the Jedi council means "good", then yes.

This would be awesome.

Because that worked so well for the prequels. Face it Lucas did a lot for the original movie, but he had people to reign him in. And he wasn't even close to in charge in either of the sequels. For Empire Strikes Back, widely regarded as the best film, he wasn't the director, producer, or even a script writer. For RotJ he was again neither the director nor the producer, although he did share screenwriter credits that time. Where as he wrote and directed all three prequels, which all pretty much sucked. So no Lucas should definitely not have full total control.

I look forward to everyone looking forward to some sort of series of movies based on Heir to the empire only to realize that Disney decides that previously published material is meaningless and produce something else completely.

Why not. Maybe they'll get it right.

I can't imagine it could be worse than the prequels unless they actually try to make it worse.

Lucas needs to be kicked upstairs though. His original film's success owed a lot to his creativity but he has been nothing but a hindrance ever since. Funny how the best film in the series was the one he had the least to do with...

Studios don't "do" movies, writers, directors, and (to a lesser extent) producers "do". Studios just set the guidelines and pull the plug if things get too out of hand.

Even with that caveat, I don't think SW is salvageable (to my taste). I have no doubt Disney will make money off of it, though.
