I'm familiar with the reasoning, but it still didn't make strategic sense. You could have left the identity of your operative concealed and, had his RL situation changed and had he again become more active somewhere down the road, he could have resumed his role as an operative. Even if you have other operatives, I fail to see how blowing the cover of one who reached the office of Arch-Chancellor was a good idea. The trust he built up could still have been exploited later if his RL situation permitted his return. Revelation of the operation hasn't yielded any obvious benefit for The New Inquisition aside from brief public embarrassment of the FRA.
Your arguments assume that it is possible that his real life circumstances might have changed in the future. We have a better understanding of that.
