No, we are not a nation of cat people. We're all humans (and a few annoying gnomes) here. The cat's just there because our king is such a genius, he saw that it would be a good military strategy to have a distractingly cute flag, to blind our enemies to (our) victory!

OOC; although apparently Coroscent itself still exists: If that had been a case of using a puppet to post past ban, wouldn't normal proceedure have involved the deletion of both nations?

The Confrederated Clans (and other Confrederated Bodys) of the Free Bears of Bears Armed
(includes The Ursine NorthLands) Demonym = Bear[s]; adjective = ‘Urrsish’.
Population = just under 20 million. Economy = only Thriving. Average Life expectancy = c.60 years. If the nation is classified as 'Anarchy' there still is a [strictly limited] national government... and those aren't "biker gangs", they're traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies', generally respected rather than feared.

Indeed. Future accusations of posting past ban belong in moderation. Discussion of such incidents belongs... nowhere on here.

OOC: Not anymore.

To get back on topic, it's fairly obvious to me this failed because of (1) the perception that the resolution actually does something to increase economic freedom, which other than statistically it doesn't; (2) some... what's the right word here... bitterness, I guess, toward the author from some quarters; (3) the unwillingness of some to revoke a stat wank; (4) the unwillingness to see, understand, or concede that it's constantly being violated by the passage of other resolutions that don't present an extreme hazard.

Have I missed anything? And don't blame the lemming effect, it's not like this was a close vote.

"Honestly, it failed because of the name alone. People see 'National Economic Freedoms' repeal attempt and immediately think that the repeal will cause a WA takeover of their economy. The lemming effect had less to do with it than the 'read the title, not the resolution' crowd did. In any case... we shall see if it was successful in making this relevant, perhaps it can head off some of the particularly dumb environmental bills we see from time to time...."

For the same reason this nation, too, has been DEATed: essentially, failure to read the Rules, or perhaps to understand that they applied to him.

Specifically: Coroscent, warned for flaming here, advised to stop double posting here, banned for failure to follow mod direction plus spammish posting here, posted past ban above, main nation and puppet British Dependencies DEAT.

If he wishes to appeal he may file a Getting Help Request. The player is not Delete on Sight, and may create another nation and join the WA with it.

OOC: A few others I've seen...
  • The title. It is a good title - though Repeal "Gay Rights" passed, so I can't purely blame that.
  • You've mentioned Mousebumples's voting against based on a claim that I've said something negative about her region but evidence of which she seems unwilling or unable to provide, all of which is incredibly mature, responsible, thoughtful behaviour, but there's also a different (much more reasonable) frustration diirected at me: people who are tired of me turning every second thread into a lengthy diatribe about the mods' failings and about how much better things were back in the day, and here's a Jolt thread from 2005 where someone said something slightly different than what's being said now... It bores even me, sometimes.
    • This especially applies to those who were fine with railing against Kryozerkia and Sedgistan, but are defensive of Ardchoille and perhaps the new mods.
  • Fear that any success I achieve will enable Unibot and Glen-Rhodes.
  • TL;DR syndrome, and the unusual syntax of the repeal. Won't be trying that experiment again.
  • The hope that the mods will change their minds and start enforcing the resolution again, in which case I admit repealing it would have proved to have been a mistake.
  • The delegate of 10KI claims I completely misunderstood the original resolution. I'm curious as to how that is the case, but as they represent a huge voting bloc and stacked very early, it was significant.
Wrapper wrote:And don't blame the lemming effect, it's not like this was a close vote.

Stacking works. The margin of vote is not proof otherwise.

And I have done.

I have appealed for the unfair deletion of my hard worked nation. I hope it's not a permanent deletion.

And I have now deleted this particular nation.

Stop posting past ban with nations. They'll only be deleted if you do so.

Well a title like "Gay Rights" can be easily repealed because it's still very controversial (for some awful reason). There are nations that would rather deport, forcibly reeducate, or outright execute gays so any hint of them getting rights is out of the question. Not like National Economic Freedoms- not even the communists take real offense at it.]

OOC: Although, to be fair, the WA doesn't necessarily reflect society's actual opinions. Gay rights might be controversial in real life, but not so much in the WA. Remember that the WA voted to permit third trimester abortions by nearly a 70% margin, whereas third trimester abortions aren't even legal in most RL countries.

OOC: But recall that was made under the title "reproductive freedoms". Another one of those if-you-don't-actually-read-it situations, one could assume it had to do with a person's choice on when to have sex and not have anything to do with abortion

Oh no, I assure you, repealing "Gay Rights" was anything but easy. You have no idea how much effort I had to put into assuring people we still loved the gays in order to convince them that the resolution, despite title, didn't actually do anything to protect gay rights. And even then, I don't think knoot and I spoke a single word to each other for at least a year after that.

But Repeal "Gay Rights" also benefitted from an extensive campaign. This repeal was clearly a failure of communication on my part.

Probably since Ardchoille removed the sticky Reference Guide, which actually contained a couple of short essays on the validity of national sovereignty, and then never bothered to replace it.

OOC; Rather amusingly, in my opinion, the advert that the system currently thinks it appropriate to give me is for a ["patented"] 'Unified Compliance Framework' _ subtitled "The Science of Compliance ®"...
:)

Has anybody else here had that one yet?
