Roadways in YN

Postby Independent Republic of Boldonia » Fri Jul 15, 2022 3:41 pm

How are the roadways in your nation. Are they government funded, province funded, freeways? More elaboration on your answers would be appreciated if you need to scratch that rp itch, but it is completely optional.

If your nation has banned motor vehicles, or has surpassed the need for them (spaceships, etc.), do not answer in this fourm.

The SN-56, otherwise known as the Trans-Arpasian highway, is a highway project beginning in 1964 and funded by the national government to connect the northernmost and southernmost points of Arpasia respectively, originally, the plan was for the roadway to stretch all the way to San Mateo di Beccina, but due to the Southern Mountains separating the region of San Mateo, this plan was dropped out.

Hello All,

Rho Ophiuchi's responses are shown below.

Roadways

Basic Information

Nation Name: The City-State of Rho Ophiuchi
Does your nation have a unified roadway network? Yes - 90% of the nation is accessible through public roads and motorways, though there are some underground and outer portions that require traveling through private roads for entry.
Does the government fund roadways? The government funds the public roadways (which include the city's motorway network), but many roadways are privately owned and funded as well.
Can the states/provinces fund roadways themselves? Only answer if applicable Non-applicable - Rho Ophiuchi has no subdivisions.
Does your nation have freeways? Yes, Rho Ophiuchi has motorways. More details can be found in this factbook: https://www.nationstates.net/page=dispatch/id=1715322
Who is allowed to set up highway stops? ...do you mean a service station, or the practice of law enforcement stopping a car due to suspected criminal activity? I will assume the first for the purposes of this survey. Anyone who owns land or rents land with the right to construct permanent installations on the contract, is able to build a service station. No regulations on this practice exist.
Are there tolls on roadways? Yes - both legal and illegal, and they usually fall into three categories.
1. Government tolls - since there is no income tax, tolls are one good way for the government to charge people of its services.
2. Highway robbers that paid off the police - this sort of thing is nearly impossible to stop if the police are paid off.
3. Private tolls on private roads - property owners have the right to charge people for passing through their property.
Which government entity is responsible for roadway funding? Only answer if applicable The Rho Ophiuchian Department of Industry.

If there is more information you would like to share feel free to put it below.
Rho Ophiuchi's roadways are perhaps the best funded part of the extremely limited public services in the country, due to the large amount of automobile manufacturing that takes place.
Sincerely,
Rho Ophiuchi

Basic Information

Nation Name: The Federal Republic of Mologiland
Does your nation have a unified roadway network?
Does the government fund roadways? National roads only
Can the states/provinces fund roadways themselves? Only answer if applicable Yes
Does your nation have freeways? Yes
Are there tolls on roadways? Very few
Which government entity is responsible for roadway funding? Only answer if applicable Mologiland Department of Transportation
If there is more information you would like to share feel free to put it below. Mologiland has a connected network of national roads (so-named because they connect the nations, not because they are maintained by them) and a dense network of smaller numbered roads.

National roads (usually referred to as N-roads) are the most important roads in Mologiland. They connect the major population centres to each other and often to infrastructure such as major ports or airports. National roads are assigned a number between N1 and N999, depending on their location and relative importance. Motorways are a subset of national roads, and are assigned the letter M in place of the letter N (e.g. N1 -> M1)

The federal government also assigns a list of P (primary) and S (secondary) roads, generally to be maintained by the corresponding nation's DoT, but occasionally some end up being maintained by counties/districts/etc or the federal government. Although the government lists these roads, nations can define additional routes fairly easily, which has resulted in occasional controversy. In 2013, the Expressway classification was added, allowing motorway-like P and S roads to be designated as such. These roads are usually assigned a 1 to 4 digit number (e.g. P2, S1234) and expressways are designated by adding an X before the number (e.g. XP2, XS1234)

  • Federal Interstates are known for their lack of blanket speed limits. There is an advisory speed limit of 130 KM/HR that cannot be enforced, and an enforceable speed limit of 80 KM/HR exists in construction zones, major urban areas, and zones with hazardous conditions. There are some state highways with no blanket speed limits, but these can mostly be found in the southern and western regions of the country.
