Ikiti Tikilikrr, who was the current ambassador of her people, the Tikrr, to the World Assembly - albeit in purely observational role - woke from her doze on her perch at the back of the room. Her species had been said to incorporate features and functions from creatures such as bats, pterodactyl, great white sharks, birds of prey, horseshoe crabs and porcupine. Some smartass had replaced the nametag on the desk in front of her with a sign that said "For gods' sake don't feed it after midnight!", which was likely some obscure popculture reference in their home nation.
Now roused from her nap, Ikiti listened to her personal comprehensive translator, which by necessity also explained such concepts as soil and grass and natural fire, that were otherwise foreign to her. She then fanned out her ears into their nearly perfect paraboloid shape to scan the proposing ambassador with her natural ultrasound senses. A delicious-sounding meaty creature, like most people around here, but she had learned to ignore the hunting instinct flareup.
Instead she asked, her cybernetic implants helping to make her speech both audible and understandable to those around her, "How many blades of grass are a prairie?"
