The funny thing is, firing automatic or semi-automatic weapons into the air, the way it's enforced, is less of a crime in my town than popping a few m-80s in the back yard. Fireworks are "zero tolerance," big fine, up to a year in jail, while the former is a routine occurrance that no one has ever been arrested for, to my knowledge. Cinco de Mayo is basically a free-for-all on the celebratory gunfire.

that is kind of weird...Fireworks are technically illegal within the City Limits, but those limits are less than 5 minutes from my house here...and if the police catch you shooting them in the limits, they usually just ask you politely to not do it anymore and leave...

Up until I moved away from my hometown, we watched the fireworks from atop an 8 story bank built in the 30s, followed by throwing a couple watermelons off the roof. After I moved, I would blow shit up with my cousins in South Carolina while visiting. Last year, I went around on a bike with an American Flag (That looked more like a Hawaiian shirt when you looked closely at it). This year, I'll be going Liberal Hippie Commie Vegan on everyone's ass. Apparently, Fireworks are illegal in national forests.

Traditionally, the 4th for me is spent relaxing, watching fireworks from the house and doing my best to console my goats and dogs, who fly into a mad panic when things start to go "boom." The goats having all been eaten and the dogs given to the SPCA as I prepare to leave the country, however, means that this year's celebration will be more or less tranquil, I hope. I plan to do a little reading, watch the fireworks from home and maybe have a hot dog. Good stuff.
