Rain pounded against the window as the old incandescent light bulb shine dimly on the wooden cabinet. The half elven maiden who by human years would be considered middle age but still young by elven standards recline back on the leather seat as the gramophone played a beautiful music using mainly string instruments. The half elf had her eyes closed as she allowed her mind to wander off, to make the music help Invision what sights her mental eyes will conjure.
Just as she was beginning to let herself be lost to the music a loud ring began to echo from across the room. Sibyl open her eyes and look through the darken room, getting up to follow the source of the ringing. Hearing it from her studies and office she open the door and enter the room. She look at her desk to see the source was the telephone being the source of the ringing.
Walking over she picked it up. "Hello this is Blackstone Agencies how can we help you?" She asked. From the other line she heard a voice with the same Albian accent coming through, she knew who it was right away. "I see you finally got a telephone line. I'm still getting use to these new confangile devices myself." Sibyl chuckled. "You'll get use go them eventually Arthur. Did you call to see if my line works?" She knew he wouldn't be calling her for something like that, not while he was still 9n his shift. "I'm afraid not Mrs. Blackstone. I'm calling because we need your help with solving an incident at a slum." Sibyl frown, she knew what he meant by incident. "Where is the location?" The detective reached for a ballpoint pen and notes and began to write down the directions. "I'll be right there."
Sibyl would hang up the phone as she walked up to the coat hanger and grab her long coat and putting it on. The next article of clothing would be her shoulder cape and withered feather cap. The half elf would go through her house and find the door that both lead to and out of her townhouse. Stepping out the small lamps shining with a ball of blazing Vash orb illuminated the darken street along with the other lamps. Sibyl ignored the rain landing on her as she climb down the steps and began to walk on the wet sidewalk to find a gunnery stop.
The various stone and wooden buildings in this part of the city rarely went past the five story mark. She saw men and women of various races walking on the streets like her but others were lucky to have umbrella with them. For Sibyl she gave hers to her daughter as she didn't mind the rain too much. On the road she saw wagons, rickshaws, and carriages being pulled by animals; some still appearing natural as the day they were born or were altered by Vim for improved performance. A few were chimeras or golems made in the form of animals. Yet some of the wagons and rickshaws that Sibyl saw were being moved by engines. Whether they were steam, electric, or those new engines using a new form of artificial Vim that mixes Vuk, Virl, and Vash to produce spontaneous combinations within the engines they made the previous wooden vehicles into metal constructs.
It took a while for those too see engines be used on them, for it was the carriages that benefited from the steam engine first after locomotives changed the world. Sibyl eye one passing by as right in the middle of the road an electric powered tram went by. Trams used to be drawn by beasts of nature and magic but when the electric tram was made most of them were seemingly replaced overnight. Most of the former tram operators either return to their old jobs using the new machines or were forced to work in the factories.
Hearing thunder rumbling from above she looked up to the darken sky, lights from the floating airships and distant skyscrapers being the only sources of light from the sky. Sibyl wonder to herself if the sky was truly black because of the weather or if the smog from the factory changed it to that color? It wouldn't be the first time that happened in the city. Sibyl's musing would come to an end as she saw a steam carriage stopping to drop off passengers. As she approached the vehicle the last passenger left and she quickly replaced them. After she gave the driver directions where to go the man waited for more passages before he began to drive through the road, steam bellowing out of the wood and metal construct.
As the gurney began its journey on top the cobblestone road network of Lumina Sibyl took out a small book she carried with herself to pass the time while using public transportation. She can hear the loud whistle of a steam locomotive as the beast of steel and iron went above her from the elevated steel bridge. The half elf tried to ignore the pain the machine caused her due to her sensitive hearing, however she still rubbed her forehead as she felt a headache coming. Eventually the headache and ringing from her ears would fade and looking outside she can see the buildings beginning to look more rundown and dingy, she knew she was getting closer go her destination.
The driver would stop and tell Sibyl that this was as far as he was willing to go. She thank him for the ride and paid him. As she exit the gurney the man quickly turn the vehicle around and left the neighborhood quickly as the machine can go. She didn't blame the man for not being here, these particular slums are rather infamous for the gang violence and murders that occur in here. Feeling for her revolver and dagger to ensure she had means to defend herself Sibyl walker deeper into the dark underbelly of Lumina, the Vim capital of the world.
