The end of Telltales game studio

Just two days ago, the award-winning studio that brought you cinematic video games of The Walking Dead, Wolf Among Us, Games of Throne and many others, Telltales is shutting down after years of toxic work conditions, financial trouble and the firing of 90 percent of it staff.

Many of us fans were shocked to see such a beloved studio go, even after they just released their final season of The Walking Dead, which will tells the end journey of beloved character, Clementine.



There have been rumor speculating that the 25 employees that are left in the studio will continue the TWD but the fate of the game is uncertain. The studio had already scrapped Wolf Among Us 2 and the upcoming Stranger Things.

Just this morning, voice actor Melissa Hutchison, who is well-known for her voice as Clementine in The Walking Dead and many other games, let out a moving letter on Twitter saying that the rumors that the studio closing is indeed true and wishing her goodbye to the talented staff that will soon be separated.

So the fate of the $6 billion game studio remains uncertain as the skeleton crew of 25 employees continues to work on Minecraft: Story Mode sponsored by Netflix.

Their games in my opinion aren't great. The illusion of choice in their games drove me off.
Until Dawn and Detroit used the same concept much better because of actual choice impact.

Possibly, but the way it happening is that the studio is going into bankruptcy and the staff that got laid off is unemployed. I don't want to know what other companies might do to Telltale's games. It even might not be the same.

Very sad. Their Walking Dead series made a lasting impression in me. That's how good I think that game is at least. Now that we won't be able to see the remaining episodes, perhaps fate decides to leave Clementine's story open-ended.

I've noticed that too. Apparently after the success of TWD first season, the CEO of the studio wanted to develop the same spark that we saw in TWD in the rest of the games. Doing something repeatedly is not going to get you anywhere

Yeah, it’s not like repeatedly releasing similar games didn’t cause this. Yeah, it sucks for the workers, but they kinda dg their own hole on this one.

Except they chose to stay and continue to work on development of titles that were, more or less, carbon clones of each other mechanically speaking. Its why even Ubisoft changed their formula for assassin's creed. I like the AC series, and they change the weapons and settings often enough to keep me interested. I wouldn't venture to call their games "Masterpieces", but they certainly have a tendency to draw me in long enough to get my money's worth even if the combat in earlier games was laughably easy in the overwhelming majority of cases. All the same, they mixed the mechanics up enough with each new title to make me feel like I was playing a different game.

With Tell-tale titles, far as I've seen and heard, the mechanics for every one of their games don't really change, maybe QTEs are more prevalent in one game over another (See the Batman titles) but can we REALLY argue that is an actual drastic change?

They made games that had little value as an interactive experience and could be enjoyed just as much as a Lets Play with no incentive to play, and spent a lot of money on expensive properties instead of putting it into one game to make it good and saving some.
