NationStates favorite water-sport except for swimming is here once again to announce sign-ups for the most-famous water-polo event in the multiverse, the return of the heralded Water Polo International Championships, back four its fourth edition of intense competition. Vekaiyu was able to repel the powerful force of West Phoenicia, fine-tuning their team to bring their first victory in the premiere water polo tournament while the old guards like Kebec and Nakad regressed. Banija, an entire newcomer put together a strong push, making it to the quarter-finals before crashing out, now we're back for the fourth go-round of this tourney, we're left wondering if WPIC 3 was just an off-year for the Phoenicians, will it be your teams' year?

Please put all OOC/discussion questions and comments in this thread, sign-ups and host bids should be directed to this thread. As water polo is a rather small tournament, we encourage newer nations to bid to host, however, a bit of experience in scorinating and rping on NS Sports is required.

About Dunian Water Polo

Water Polo is the second biggest team sport in Dunnes after football (soccer). The Dunnes Water Polo Federation wants to host the tournament to showcase the sport and to drive up attendance domestically, while internationally promoting their league. The tournament would take place at five existing venues across four Dunian cities: Valencia, Stevenson, Dodgetown, and the Capital City of Mirola. Three of these would be expanded or adapted for WPIC use. Additional sites are also available if the amount of teams entered grows.

Hosting Experience

Dunnes is relatively new to hosting, but does have some experience, including Co-Hosting the World Cycling Championships III, and running football, triathlon, and water polo leagues domestically. However, Dunnes is extremely confident we would be able to host an event of WPIC size.

Format

The tournament will be a group stage followed by a knockout round. Please view the spoiler below to see how I would set up the groups. Regardless of group size, the tournament will progress into a single-elimination knockout phase, which will end with a final and third place match.

20 Teams: 4 groups of 5, top two in each group advance
24 Teams: 6 groups of 4, top 2 in each group advance plus the 4 highest ranked third place teams
28 Teams: 7 groups of 4, top 2 in each group advance, plus the 2 highest ranked third place teams
30 Teams: 6 groups of 5, top 2 in each group advance, plus the 4 highest ranked third place teams
32 Teams: 8 groups of 4, top 2 in each group advance

Scorinator & RP Bonus

If Dunnes is selected to host, I will use the latest version of xkoranate to generate scores. IWPF rankings will be used to generate pots for the groups. RP will be cumulative and generous. RPs will be judged based on quality over quantity/length. In addition, there will be a roster bonus.
