REALIZING action is needed to improve the quality of air ourcitizens and the children of our nations are breathing
BELIEVING that subsidization of the clean fuels industry and de-subsidization of the oil and automobile industries will not hurt te economy but shift the focus towards more future facing and benefcial jobs.
RECOGNIZING that the solution is to remove subsidies from the auto and oil industries and use that money to promote eco-friendly fuels.

This is my first resolution, I have gone through a few drafts and submitted this one. This is a topic I care a lot about and believe this would also be a good real world solution.
thank you for viewing this thread.

It's not enough to just say (basically) "Recognizing that good things are good and bad things are bad, the WA hereby enacts this act." You have to actually come out and say, "...the WA requires that member nations must do the following good things: 1. Use their turn signals whenever switching lanes or changing direction; 2. Clean up after their pets; 3. Clean up after their major industries [with detailed information as to how or in what specific sphere, e.g. add particulate scrubbers and pollutant-recapture systems to smokestacks]; 4. Tip their servers - if nations cannot afford to tip they cannot afford to eat out in the first place."
Hope that helps.

Understanding that cheap gas and other other unclean methods of energy encourages thoughtless consumption of that material.
Affirming that gasoline consumption in cars and other vehicles produces greenhouse gasses and carbon monoxide, both of which are harmful to the environment and ourselves.
Realizing that action is needed to improve the quality of our air, so citizens and the children of our nations will be healthy, and without the risk of Asthma, Bronchitis, and other breathing problems.
Believing that subsidizing clean fuel industries and de-subsidization the oil and automobile industries will not hurt the economy, but help shift the focus towards more future facing and beneficial jobs for us.
Recognizing that the solution is to remove subsidies from the auto and oil industries and use the money that we provided them to promote eco-friendly fuels and other forms of cleaner energy.
Stating that the purpose of this resolution is to promote safe environmental practicies to protect ourselves, the environment, and future generations of our nations.

Use the money taken from those subsidies and invest it in eco-friendly energy sources and technologies. 3. Encourage citizens to adopt the new technology and move away from fossil fuels.

"What's your point? We're a free market; we encourage this."
But the government should not use subsidies to keep it low.Affirming that gasoline consumption in cars and other vehicles produces greenhouse gasses and carbon monoxide, both of which are harmful to the environment and ourselves.
"The amount of methane and similar gases are not enough to have a significant effect upon the atmosphere. Unless you're talking about carbon dioxide, but that's not a greenhouse gas on Earth. I know a lot of people say it is, but we have no evidence from the past or the present that it has any direct effect on Earth's atmosphere, rather than the mounds of evidence that it has a limited indirect effect due to how it feeds back into water vapor.
Im not going to attempt to talk sense to you here. Just remember what Arnold Swartznegger once said:"Would you rather be sealed in a garage with a electric car or gas car."
Of course, once water vapor starts acting, there's pretty much nothing short of a planet-scale apocalypse you can do to stop it...
So act progressively so that is never a problem.
Hmm... Okay, I see the point on this. We can't sell to people if they're dead."
100% Consumption moral-free society is the vibe I'm gettingRealizing that action is needed to improve the quality of our air, so citizens and the children of our nations will be healthy, and without the risk of Asthma, Bronchitis, and other breathing problems.
"Yeah, those are not going to go away just because you fixed one problem. Expecting this will make your citizens magically healthy is about as rooted in science as determining what the weather will be by reading bones. Seriously, if this is such of a major issue, pollution isn't your only problem and you have a lot more you need to do."
Never offered a miracle. Just scientific solutions to IMPROVE the situation not 100 percent cured.Believing that subsidizing clean fuel industries and de-subsidization the oil and automobile industries will not hurt the economy, but help shift the focus towards more future facing and beneficial jobs for us.
Recognizing that the solution is to remove subsidies from the auto and oil industries and use the money that we provided them to promote eco-friendly fuels and other forms of cleaner energy.
"So, in other words, you want your cake and to eat it too."
Just bake two cakes;)
*sigh, forehead rub*
"Okay, lesson time... What do you think those solar panels, wind turbines, electric cars, and similar technologies are made from? The answer is carbon-heavy materials and materials that require carbon to refine. You can't have steel without burning coal, plastic without drilling for oil, and so on. Maybe if you're one of those sci-fi nations that cruise around in starships, but for those of us stuck on a single planet this is not a realistic possibility.
Also, do any of your medicines use a bencenic ring in their chemical structure? If they do, congrats; they're made from fossil fuels.
What you're talking about is trading a controllable and mitigation-possible environmental disaster for a complete medical apocalypse. For any of us who do not have access to interplanetary travel or magic, this is tantamount to genocide. Which is illegal for WA members, by the way.
Not to mention the uncontrollable environmental disaster that would result from the fact we'd have to go back to burning wood. After all, you're only removing the very subsidies that make the raw materials for those alternative energy sources affordable enough to produce them."
Thats why we subsidize the other industries.Stating that the purpose of this resolution is to promote safe environmental practicies to protect ourselves, the environment, and future generations of our nations.
"And this resolution fails at that purpose on nearly every level. I would advise you to abandon it, ambassador."

"Ambassador, your exception to your first requirement makes that nonbinding to any nation that is more advanced than burning wood and less advanced than interstellar travel. And it does not require an economic shift, which is technologically impossible anyway. Requirement number one literally does nothing."

Caramelldancers wrote:"I will admit I have all of the morality of two wolves deciding the fate of a sheep, but I still have to maintain the herd if I want to survive. Corporations in my nation do not survive for long if they do not look after their customer base.
One of the basic realities of dealing with a customer base is that any corporation dumb enough to not look after that customer base doesn't survive long. As such, we're increasingly looking at the idea of maintaining the environment and health of the people simply because people who live longer spend more money over the course of their lifespan.
As such, we support this proposal under the current wording."
