Doctor Ziegler called it sepsis once, an event in which a patient suffering from an infection starts to die from their own immune response. For the past five years, give or take a few months, Earth has been undergoing the same thing. Killing itself in an attempt to cure it, extensive public works projects to help research displace thousands of people, attempts to integrate Omnic citizens further into society provide more backlash, and attempts to move away from past days get swiftly and brutally stomped on by Talon. The former members of Overwatch lay scattered and elbow deep in their own adventures. Any congregation would meet a UN strike team if found out, and they'd undoubtedly be sent to whatever super-max prison they built to harbor humanity's best and brightest.
Regardless, humanity needs heroes again. Or at least people who want to help stop the self-destructive tendencies of humanity for the next few decades. Given how selfless most members of Overwatch are, the sudden increase in vigilantism throughout the world, and Winston's recall, there's bound to be a few friendly faces, both new and old. It'll be a tough road, but then again, so was the Omnic Crisis, and most of us made it through that just fine. We can get through something like this no worse for wear. And even if we don't perhaps our message will be enough.
Hello, welcome to Overwatch: Para Bellum. An RP based of the Overwatch media universe, with the goal of creating a story similar to that of the game's canon, but delivering it in our own way. You'll be applying as a member of Overwatch, their career starting before the disbandment, and once again answering the call after Winston's Recall, and Tekharta Mondatta's subsequent assassination.
1. No Godmodding/Meta-Gaming: This can be defined as playing your character without limitations or having your character know things they couldn't possibly know. Like a six year old conscripted child knowing of the impending Covenant threat or what the hell is going to happen to them when they go to sleep that night.
2. Don't be a dick in the OOC: You can have your character be a version of a certain president-elect in the IC. But the moment you act like a dick in the OOC thread you'll get a warning.
3. No One Liners: A full paragraph per IC post, anything less is frowned upon and is generally laziness and will not be accepted.
4. No 'Dick measuring' contests: The moment two of you start arguing over which character is better, and it doesn't contribute to goings on in the IC. You'll both get a warning.
5. For the love of god keep it PG-13: This is a general site rule, and while PG-13 is a blurred line nowadays, the rules of thumb are: nothing sexually explicit, and nothing overly violent. This is a place to role play as humanity's heroes, not write out deviant fantasies.
6. No multicolor or odd dialogue: No colored text, and no italicized/bolded/underlines paragraphs. Reserve them for actual use instead of using them for everything.
7. If you have a problem with a player, take it to TG. If that does not work, bring it to the OP or a CoOP's attention. Do not turn the OOC thread into chaos.
8. You have a 72 hour grace period to post if you're holding someone back, after that your character will be forced to move on by the OP or Co-Op. Failure to return will result in character death.
9. Don't just write for yourself, other want to get involved as well. I realize it's human nature, but try to involve other people's ideas, themes, and characters. A major part in RPing is having other people, don't turn them away or cast a blind eye.
10. No Canon characters, they'll be "NPCs". You'll be using OCs, and as unfortunate as it may seem, they nature of the community means the bar is gonna be set pretty high to start with.
11. Have fun!

- 2041 - the Omnic Crisis begins. It's the first war in a little over 100 years to involve nearly the entire global population in some way, shape, or form.
- 2046 - Overwatch is formed after a single UN created strike team escalates into a symbol of hope in the sea of dread washing through the frontlines.
- 2051 - Omnic Crisis ends, diplomatic talks between humanity and the Omnics begins.
- 2052 - A Omnic monastary opens in the Himalayan mountain range. It's remote location protects it from radical attacks. The Australian Government gifts the Australian Omnium to displaced Omnics as a sign of goodwill. Displaced Australian citizens create a domestic terrorist group (Australian Liberation Front) in response. The sole settlement on Luna is rendered abandoned after the primate population becomes hostile.
- 2055 - Overwatch's Black Ops division, Blackwatch, is formed. Gabriel Reyes is put in charge.
- 2064 - Amelie Lacroix - wife of Overwatch Agent Gerard Lacroix is kidnapped by the Talon Terrorist Organisation. She is rescued by Overwatch, shaken but seemingly no worse for wear. 2 weeks later she kills her husband. She returns to Talon who transform her into their deadliest assassin, known as Widowmaker.
- 2065 - Lena Oxton is involved in a freak accident testing an experimental temporal device. The accident causes her to become temporally displaced, until Overwatch scientist Winston creates a Temporal Harness allowing her to control this effect. Lena joins Overwatch (it’s youngest member to date at the UK minimum age of enlistment: 16) under the codename Tracer.
- 2067 - A Blackwatch operation is botched, resulting in several casualties, and the public becoming aware of the Black ops division. Overwatch comes under allegations of corruption. Ana Amari is declared KIA later in the year.
- 2070 - Overwatch HQ in Zurich is destroyed in a colossal explosion. Multiple deaths are reported, including those of Gabriel Reyes and Jack Morrison. Later that year, Overwatch is officially disbanded, and the Petras Act is signed into international law.
- 2074 - The Siberian Omnium Reactivates, Unofficially beginning the Second Omnic Crisis.

Real Name: Dr. Shannon MacDougall
Alias: Sagittarius
Age: 36
Gender: Female
Appearance: Face, Disguise
Height: 5'9 (175cm)
Weight: 166 lbs (75kg)
Nationality: Canadian
Backstory: Born in Victoria, Canada, Shannon's mother was from Japan and her father from Scotland, she didn't have very many memories of the Omnic crisis, seeing as most of the North American fighting occurred within the United States and Eastern Canada, and with the expectation to do well in her studies, Shannon didn't very much learn of it's events other than the basics. She didn't have many friends, instead she tinkered with things in her spare time, leading to a few homemade inventions, showing her aptitude for both engineering and physics. When she finally graduated at seventeen she immediately applied to Harvard to partake in their theoretical physics programs. With a large amount of money and some time, she was accepted, and started her road to the future.
When she finally got her PhD in Theoretical physics she was at the young age of 23, having wrote a dissertation almost entirely on Dark Matter and it's ability to be harnessed as well as any applications it could have for not only the energy sector but for other sectors of science as well. Needless to say that Overwatch noticed. She needed not give an application, as Overwatch came to her with the offer of employment, she accepted, and they put her to work in Watchpoint: Grand Mesa.
It was here she was given the basic Overwatch introductory course, she was trained in basic self defense and given mild firearms lessons. It was also where she started work on a Dark Energy Harvester, a device she hypothesized could replace the power stations and Nuclear plants that ran the world. Preliminary tests had unforeseen consequences however, the device did start to harvest dark energy, however it promptly converted said energy into a field affecting the mass of every object in the surrounding twelve meters, people in the lab started floating, some fell to the floor with creaking bones, and some were very nearly sheared in half. The lab was all but destroyed, however this was only a minor setback, the device was redesigned and that little error was rectified and a working prototype was developed.
The fact that Blackwatch wanted the original design weaponized didn't bode well for Shannon, and as tensions among the organization rose, she started to write her letter of resignation. When the HQ in Munich was destroyed, Shannon had enough, she destroyed both the prototype, as well as her research notes to avoid the technology falling into the wrong hands. It was then she left Grand Mesa and returned to her city of birth.
Over the next few years she slowly started to see the world decay even further, and decided that the world needed Overwatch again. So she started her research back up. She developed a series of neurological implants to give her control over dark energy, the irony of creating what caused her to leave Overwatch in the first place was not lost on her. In order to actually put the implants into her system she had to find an old friend. After finding one Angela Ziegler in Syria, she had the series of devices implanted into her central nervous system. It was then she set back off into the world taking on a costume of her own design, using electroactive polymers, high density ceramic and titanium to give her an even greater edge should she find herself on the wrong end of a gun, as well as the code name Sagittarius, after the super-massive blackhole in the center of the Milky Way.
Weapon(s) Power, abilities:Ultimate Ability:
- Nova Surge: By creating a quark massed blackhole within her palm, she can then throw it like one would a baseball. When it makes contact with an object, it detonates with a force similar to that of 500 grams of plastic explosives.
- Kinetic Discharge: Shannon lightens her mass and leaps upwards, at the height of her jump she increases her mass two-fold and slams down upon the ground, converting the kinetic energy that would've dissipated into her legs into that of a shockwave. The greater the height, the greater the force behind the shockwave.
- Lift: Enveloping an object or person with a sudden influx of energy said person or object has a rather abrupt gravitational impulse acted upon them, the heavier the object the more effort needed. If something rooted to the ground is struck (like a building or a sign) the energy dissipates without any effect. Moving objects are much more difficult to 'lock on to'. In some situations, she can condense this action into a ball like a Nova Surge, affecting an area with the same affect.
- Firefly Coilrifle: A fully automatic Coilgun developed by Overwatch, it wasn't mass produced due to the lack of portable power supplies. Using her ability to manipulate Dark Energy, Shannon uses this to power the weapon. With an RPM of 1150 and loaded with 5mm steel spheres it's capable of accelerating said projectiles at hypersonic speeds, and although it can't go through armor like butter it'll still do some damage.
Weaknesses: Overuse of her implants can cause them to either explode or set her nervous system on fire, she hasn't figured out which is more likely. The Nova Surge projectiles can very much be dodged as they move at the same pace as the average person would throw a baseball. When attempting to use Lift, Shannon is enveloped in a very noticable field of ethereal blue.
- Rebound:"Stop." Creating a field of energy n front of her, Shannon collects any projectile caught in the field before casting it back with the same energy it entered the field with. Any beam or projectile which doesn't have a definitive shape will simply dissipates into the field.
Real Name: David Kowalski
Alias: Atlas
Age: 55
Gender: Male
Appearance: Face, Armor
Height: 7'10 (238cm)
Weight: 299 lbs (135 kg)
Nationality: American
Backstory: Born in Anchorage, Alaska, David was not a normal boy, with an unusually muscular physique and with a good head over most other children his age, his parents knew he wasn't going to have the most normal of lives. His academics weren't the best, but regardless he didn't feel he needed them, seeing as he had the ultimate goal of joining the USMC out of high school. Although David signed on with the US Marine Corps as soon as he turned 18. During the physical health exam it was discovered that David had a mild inhibition in his body's ability to produce Myostatin, the hormone responsible for restricting muscle development. Despite this condition, and his height barely squeezing below normal restrictions. He was accepted into the Corps and served as a SAW Gunner. Within the next few years he managed to squeeze in time to learn a mild understanding of both mechanical and electrical engineering, despite the few engagements he had with the Omnic threat.
But it wasn't enough for him, he really wanted to go all in, so when the time came, he volunteered for the US Armed Forces SEC program, serving alongside the likes of Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes, though younger than the two others.
He graduated from the program almost immediately before the first Omnic crisis started. And his first batch of news that came to him was that the Russian Omnium had started assaulting Alaska from across the Bering straight. Despite his wishes to fight on his own homefront he was instead deployed to Arizona to fight the US' Omnium forces, it would be three weeks from the start of the Omnic Crisis to learn that Anchorage had been all but razed to the ground, and that his family were not among the survivors. His hatred for Omnic grew into a fuel for his desire to protect people from the ultimate fate of death.
As one of the few SEC soldiers still deployed on American soil, David became something of a icon of morale, and the American fighting spirit. His visage soon became plastered on war bonds and recruitment posters, and after some time he was pulled from the frontlines, to keep the walking morale booster alive. After numerous appearances at recruitment rallies, and recently re-opened factories, David became rather frustrated at the fact he was being all but relegated to desk duty.
So he was given his wishes, and he was assigned with the 1st Marine Raiders, and worked in tandem with the Overwatch Strike Team in the final battle of the Crisis, Operation: Uppercut, a plan to land the killing blow on the God AI controlling the Omniums.
By the time the Crisis was over, David's hatred for Omnics also receded, while he had a harbored distrust of the sentient machines, he no longer hated them completely, willing to strainingly cooperate if their goals aligned. Soon after the Crisis ended, David sent an application in to Overwatch, his name was recognized, not only as the war hero he was, but as an old acquaintance of Morrison and Reyes.
It was with his time at Overwatch that he developed his armor with the aid of Torbjörn Lindholm, with a design in mind the duo created the Svalinn Armor system. It's armor plating consisted of a composite of a titanium alloy along with tungsten carbide and depleted uranium, underneath the plating is an assembly of electromagnets and synthetic muscle, giving the user the ability of protecting himself and his allies, as well as actually move. Despite it's success in preliminary tests, it wasn't taken much further than that due to budgeting concerns. Later on, after facing the threat of Talon more than a few times, David modified the suit to emit an EMP as a way to discharge electric buildup, rather than have it vent into his body.
After nearly two decades with Overwatch he was one of the few who were at the Munich HQ when the ill will between Reyes and Morrison came to a head. The resulting fight resulted in extensive scarring across David's body due to more than a few explosions and a few penetrating projectiles. After he recovered from his wounds, he repaired his armor and set off across the world, his hatred for Omnics, now burned into a hatred for Talon.
Weapon(s) Power, abilities:Ultimate Ability:
- Repel/Attract: A collection of advanced electromagnets underneath his suit's armor plating can repel metallic projectiles and even conductive plasma, keeping him out of danger, by reversing the polarity he can set the magnets to attract fire, keeping his teammates safe from direct harm. A sufficiently fast projectile, polymer/ceramic bullets or a laser can avoid the magnetic attraction.
- Fusilade: By adjusting the gas system in his rifle, the rate of fire escalates from 15000 RPM to 21000 rpm. This heats the weapon considerably and blows through ammo just as fast. However it's capacity to turn Omnics to scrap and people to chum is an equal trade off.
- HSP-52: Heavy Suppression Platform, Model of 2052. Firing 7.62x51mm SLAP-T rounds, it's a rather dated weapon, using rather dated projectiles, though it's ruggedness is really all that David needs it for. The projectiles are armor piercing, though they start to tumble after around a hundred meters, making them only useful at close range.
Weaknesses: Moving particularly fast isn't the best option, the fact that he has to check his target's background for civilians, anything that can shoot back past 400 meters, and a moshpit of friendlies and hostiles.
- Power Down: "Hope no one has a pacemaker." David's suit emits an electromagnetic pulse, disabling any non-hardened electronics for a short period of time. Ranging from modern weapons, to dated Omnics, to neon signs above shops.
