Tiandi is the union of Heaven (天) and Earth (地), and all which they encompass.

A heavenly, celestial world located in a far-off section of the NS universe, Tiandi is home to a myriad of cultures, religions, and political systems. A rarity among NS roleplay and worldbuilding regions, it presents an alternate world in which East Asian societies came to create a new, Confucian-dominated world order.

Regional Discussion Thread

Tiandi is an MT world dedicated to realism, a planet cut off from the rest of the NS universe. One main thing differentiates Tiandi from other RP regions, and that is that in Tiandi's history, East Asian nations, rather than European nations, were the first to colonize, industrialize, and for a while dominate the globe.

Please read these considerations before making an app. Puppet nations are allowed. All apps can be accepted by either me, Sabara, or Toishima.

Barring RL circumstances, lack of activity on Tiandi IRC, IIWiki, and RP will result in the removal of your nation from the map, especially if you are still active elsewhere on NS. If you let us know, we will hold your spot for a reasonable amount of time.

  • Please refrain from creating a nation with a GDP (either nominal or PPP) of over $1.5 trillion. This doesn't mean you should try to get as close to this number as possible.
  • Please refrain from claiming a population of over 100 million people. New nations in the Sinju area or nations with a GDP per capita of over $20,000 should not have a population of over 45 million.
  • Don't ask me to create more islands for your Japanese nation in the East Sinju area.
  • No more wealthy city-states.
  • Place your claim in an area of the world that corresponds with the cultural map.
  • European colonial offshoots (America/Canada/Australia analogues) will be rejected.
  • Only East Asian nations may currently have colonies; those colonies must be far-flung and tiny.
  • Human claims have precedence over NPCs, which are mapped in gray. Technically, every gray spot on the map is an NPC; some are just without names and stats.

Application Walkthrough

Self-explanatory.

This should be answered mainly in terms of language and ethnicity.

This refers to European-style colonization from the late 15th century on. No former European colonies. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule. Only East Asian nations are allowed to have colonized in Tiandi, and virtually non-East Asian nations should have been colonized in the past. Please choose a colonizer from this list below.

The median country on Earth has 5 - 7 million people. Of course, player nations are generally allowed to have nations that are more populous than this.

GDP (PPP) is generally higher than GDP (nominal) in nations that are still developing. Please look at nations similar to how you envision your nation to be and base your numbers off of that. Very wealthy nations often have a higher nominal GDP. The median GDP (PPP) per capita for a nation on Earth is around ~$11,000, which would be a statistic for an upper middle income nation.

Non-East Asian (Korean/Japanese/Chinese/Vietnamese) or non-Sinicized are for the most part not allowed to be wealthy nations or have GDP per capitas above $25,000. Very lightly populated petrostates and a few South Asian nations are allowed to be wealthy and developed as well, but due to how being a petrostate has so often been used as an excuse here to have a wealthy nation, only a select few will be able to do so.

Look at RL numbers for similarly developed and populated nations.

The lingua franca of Tiandi is Korean. Non-European nations should not have European languages as a major language, unless due to large amounts of immigration.

Should be short. However, there should still be a decent description of what the nation is like; try to provide a general summary. Develop a decent amount but not too much without knowing all that much about this region's established canon (and especially before being accepted, haha).

Wealthy East Asian and East Asian settler nations should be for the most part liberal democracies, which the region currently has a shortage of.

My main nation on NS is Arumdaum but my nation in Tiandi is Jeongmi. Many people don't send their main nations into Tiandi, and it is much easier to contact people through their mains.

Is this nation going to be your main nation on NS? Is it simply going to be a puppet? Players should keep at least one nation in the region; if it CTEs, all your nations here will be removed from the map or turned into an NPC. NPCs can be used and developed by anyone, but anything major should be up to the decision of the regional leadership (Arumdaum/Sabara/Toishima).

Provide a link to your map claim on Imgur, saved as a png and not cropped. This makes it easier for me to add it to the map. The map ratio is 81 km2 for every pixel; the RL places on the bottom right corner of the map correspond nearly exactly to how large they would be on the map. Tiandi is roughly the size of Earth, though it has more water and 20% less land area.

Try to make your claim look interesting. Try not to stick to the coast or claim all the empty land in an area. Coasts are often premium territory, and so 'Chile' shaped nations that may landlock others are discouraged whereas incredibly large claims will be moderated. Culture should also play a role and consider your nation's cultural background/influences when staking a claim (second map above).

Colonizer description

Virtually all non-East Asian countries should have been colonized at some point, similar to how Europe was able to conquer much of the world IRL. Here is a list of current colonizers and their cultures:

Jeongmi (Korean): Jeongmi was able to create a massive global empire similar to that of the British, the largest the world had ever seen. It is most likely that Jeongmi colonized a non-East Asian nation. Jeongmi today is a wealthy liberal democracy and a major economic and military power.

Akitsukuni (Japanese): Akitsukuni was another major historic colonizer, and was able to create a global empire that rivaled that of Jeongmi's. Akitsukuni is today a militaristic right-wing executive monarchy with a weak democratic system, with mighty economic and militaristic strength.

Gaoxiong (Taiwanese): Gaoxiong was another colonizer, thought it did not colonize to the extent of Akitsukuni, Jeongmi, and Meisaan.

Meisaan (Cantonese): Meisaan was a major colonizer and was able to create another global colonial empire that rivaled Jeongmi. In the present, it is a major economic and military power that like Jeongmi, is a liberal democracy.

Zaihan (Hokkien): Zaihan was another colonizer.

After the collapse of the People's Republic of Myaar'tway in the Myaar'tway Civil War, the new Republic has emerged as yet another trap in the south for rich Sinju tourists and businessmen. Beautiful beaches, inner rivers and mountains straight out of postcards, friendly and trusting locals, easy business and untapped natural resources make the former anarchic warzone attractive to the northern nations. At the same time, the nation is actually far from a "former" warzone. Fighting still continues in the jungles between rebel groups and the CoN peacekeepers posted into the nation to protect its new government.

Formerly a colony of Akitsukuni, Myaar'tway fell to the rising tide of communism almost immediately after Akitsukuni left its overseas colonies. For the entire remainder of the 20th century, the PRM was yet another of the world's backwater communist states, rarely engaging in international activities and notorious for human rights violations. In the 1990s, the state began opening up and enacting economic reforms, bringing eyes to the region just in time for hardliners in the government to launch a coup and reverse the changes, causing the Myaar'tway Civil War in 2000. In 2005, a large multinational force led by Akitsukuni invaded the PRM and restored order, rebuilding a new, more stable government in 2009. Then the CoN took over to keep the peace.

Now, some seven years later, the country is opened up for the first time. And, under the watchful eyes of CoN peacekeepers in their white armoured vehicles, here come the colonisers yet again...

The Hierophancy of Adango is a very authoritarian, Pan-Bantu entity ruled in by the dominant three Hierarchs and the mysterious Hierophants who have been in power since the 1920s, when they forcefully annexed their economically weaker regions. Currently ruled by the shadowy autocrat Hierophant of Unity Makwangala Banda and his subservient triarchy of the three Patriarchs. Banda is the grandson of the previous Hierophant, Kamzu Banda who was involved in the country’s foundation with succession being described as an agnatic elective affair limited to the Banda dynasty.

The current three patriarchs are the Patriarch of Truth, the Patriarch of Humility and the Patriarch of Peace. Each lose their original names once they adopt their title and serve as the joint executives of the nation, administrating in the name of Makwangala who has taken an increasingly reduced role in governance. The main administration of the Hierophancy is a ruthless and oppressive one, forcibly modernising the nation through a combination of state capitalism and dirigisme. The economy of Adongo is predominantly resource based based upon the exploitation of its natural wealth while being cautious to protect its leakage. They’ve also been known for their large amounts of outsourcing within the nation, especially in the urban areas were the countries lose application of safety laws are often exploited.

The nation’s massively multi-ethnic nature is in the process of being carefully eroded with the forced redistribution of populations and indoctrination of the youth however both of these has further radicalised these minorities who often are exploited the state’s ambition.

The state faith of Pangano is a henotheistic faith, based around a complex system of multiple gods of which the great two of Kuta and Mune who operate as dualistic opposites. While it is a henotheist faith technically, the Hierophancy has adopted a kathenotheist stance on the matter of faith turning Kuta into a being used to justify the rule of the Hierophancy and their de facto caste system approach. Other religions which are present in some form or another are present in the vast rural areas of the nation, such as fetishism, Druze, Confucianism and Buddhism. These are often suppressed when possible by the Hierophancy.

In the late 1980s ethnic conflict broke out resulting in a war in the area featuring ethnic cleansing and a large rearrangement of ethnic groups in the area. Government was also bombed by an international coalition. Post-war government took up some initiative and rebuilt it into a moderately well-done state repaired from the massive damage, but butthurt remains towards Juzisyeli and probably a few of the states that bombed it.

Nation description: Gaoxiong is a semi-presidential republic, named after the city in ROC. It formerly was a monarchy until a revolution overthrew the last dynasty, the Ying, and the Republic of Gaoxiong was established with its first president, Sun Xiao, and the Kuomintang took power. Sun's ideals (similar to Sun Yat-sen's) have an impact on the government today. When Jiang Jie-ping took power, Gaoxiong became a nationalist dictatorship under his rule. This changed when Jiang died. Reforms and changes to the government were made, and Gaoxiong held its first elections. Under the new president, Li Zhe-qiang, Gaoxiong entered a new stage in prosperity. It is now a liberal democracy. The President is head of state and the Vice President is head of government. There are five parts of government called "yuan" (院). These are Legislative, Executive, Judicial, Control, and Examination. The Legislative Yuan is unicameral and has 113 seats. The Kuomintang has most of the seats, and the government is highly influenced by the Three Principles of the People. Since Li Zhe-qiang's rule, other political parties have begun to gain influence.

Rejected. Please get on IRC or the discussion thread to learn the vast changes to Tiandi that have occured. For one, Qinyue has long not existed and Senkaku has been banned. Secondly, all of the colonial powers have been made more aggressive, meaning this concept of Zangsabaar likely will not be able to diplomatically deal with the Sinju states. Establishing protectorates in nearby colonies and causing decolonisation there will likely prevent Zangsabaar from having good ties with the former colonial powers.

You seem to believe you are more powerful than a Miju state can realistically be.

Toishima, to be fair that's a tad bit harsh. I think Zangsabaar's history up to Eulhae is fine. A trading federation based around Malays and Zanzibar natives is fine in my opinion, and its not unrealistic for it to avoid colonization if it is able to maneuver around the big colonial powers (look at Ethiopia or Siam/Thailand). However, the post Eulhae neo-colonization is a bit excessive, although it would be interesting to have a large Mijun power that was able to dictate some of its neighbors foreign policy.

I'm overturning this rejection for now. Reph, if you can alter some of your stats- perhaps lower the pop to around 40-50 mil?- you'll be accepted.
