Washington
A US Political RP

Shake with you right hand, but hold a rock in your left
Frank Underwood - House of Cards

OOC I IC I Congress Thread IDebates Thread I

2016 is an important year for politics in the United States. This year, the US will have a new president, a new Congress, new governors and politicians to lead it. Do you have the guts to survive this year? Whether you are a senior senator seeking for presidency, a freshman representative suddenly plunged into the activity of DC or an ambitious journalist looking for good scoops in the hall of the Capitol, this year is going to be hard for you. The Political landscape is more polarized than ever, with Republicans and Democrats looking sideways at each other whilst the country is ultimately divided on issues such as ISIS, gay marriage, China, taxes and more or less everything. But beware, for only one rule subsists in the corridors of the Capitol building: the survival of the fittest. Backstabbing, secret deals, questionable arrangements and machiavellic plans are your everyday programme, if you want to keep your head up in this overwhelming world of politics. Meanwhile, the elections are approaching... It is going to be a hard year for you. So, are you ready for it?

Basically, this is a US Political RP in which you will roleplay a Senator or a Representative, possibly a governor, and maybe a candidate for President. It takes place in Washington D.C, hence the name. Upon your election you will have to draft and pass bills, whilst making sure to gain enough popularity in your chamber, and awaiting the next midterm elections, where the majority in senate and the House of Representatives can suddenly change. Apart from the parties (Republicans and democrats) and the places, the characters may not be real. No Trump or Sanders this time! Be creative instead!

Rules
What it takes for this RP to stay fun and not become a kind of battlefield (which is complicated when RP'ing RL politics, even with irreal people).

1- OP is God and the Co-OP's are demigods. What I and they say is to be taken for granted.
2- No RL characters Or at least no celebrities. That's no Donald Trump. I knew you were aching to play Trump, but that's no-no.
3- Good quality IC and Frequent posting preferred. Do not neglect real life affairs either, we know how to be tolerant, but know your IC success will be greatly determined by the quality of your IC posts and your motivation. Similarly, one-liners will have more of a hard time.
4- Respect your fellow players. It is become of them you are having fun. RP'ing alone is no fun, so don't forget that one.
5- To propose legislation, TG the Speaker Co-OP for your chamber. If none, TG me by default.
6- No godmod/flawless/perfect characters We hate perfect people. Don't let yourself be hateful.
7- If they're is anything you think would be a bad idea to do, even if it is not listed, don't do it. Ask OOC if you can, but don't go around meta-gaming in the IC and telling me it wasn't written you weren't allowed.
8- Have fun and be creative. If nothing creative and new pops out, we'll be bored...

Character Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Neo-Chicago
Character Name: Patrick "Pat" Cross
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 46
Character Role: Senator
Appearance:
Image

Character State of Origin: Massachusetts
Character Affiliation: Republican
Main Strengths: Charismatic, able to appeal to moderates and independents, well-educated and a relatively good debater.
Main Weaknesses: Too idealistic, seen as not conservative enough by republicans outside of New England and other moderate areas, inexperienced.
Short Bio: Patrick Robert Cross was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1970, to Raymond James Cross and Jennifer Marie Langdon. Raymond was an alcoholic who was only enabled by Jennifer, and this took a toll on Patrick as a child. Due to this lifestyle, Patrick and his parents moved around a lot early in life, so much that he went to kindergarten in Cincy, first and second grade in Columbus, third grade in Mansfield, fourth and fifth grade in Akron, and sixth grade in Cleveland. Around this time, his mother finally couldn't take anymore, and ran off back home to Texas, leaving him with his father. Raymond tried to quit drinking several times, but was never successful for longer than half a year. Eventually, the state took Patrick away, and gave custody to his grandparents in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Perhaps because of this upbringing, Patrick always preferred very large cities to smaller ones. Patrick didn't have much in the way of social skills until going to high school in Pittsfield. His grandfather, a famed real estate entrepreneur, paid for Patrick's tuition to Harvard where he pursued a degree in Political Science.
Patrick got involved in George H.W. Bush's campaigns, in both 1988 and 1992. In 1998, Patrick was elected to the Massachusetts State Senate, over incumbent Andrea F. Nuciforo Jr. He served in the State Senate until he made enough of a name for himself to run for Representative. In '06, Patrick, due to his popularity in the section of the state he represented in the State Senate, he was elected Representative for the 1st District of Massachusetts. He served for four terms, before running for the Senate in 2014, where he beat incumbent Senator Markey. Today, Senator Cross is a blue-state republican, who's fairly moderate on most social issues, such as gay marriage. Pat doesn't believe the government should define marriage in the first place, and though he personally doesn't agree with homosexuality, it's not as though it harms anyone. On abortion, Pat supports defunding Planned Parenthood, and shifting funding to similar services that don't provide abortions. He doesn't think the government should go as far as to shut it down, however. Concerning foreign policy, Senator Cross is a strong proponent of neoconservatism, supporting intervention, though not just for the sake of itself. The Senator believes that the United States is morally required to aid those who are being unfairly persecuted, and those who could pose a threat to the United States, and also believes that a strong United States is required for global stability. He mainly skirts around most social issues, and focuses on fiscal conservatism and free market capitalism on the campaign trail, be it for a Senatorial campaign or otherwise. He's looking at a presidential run in 2020, as he believes that the majority of republicans aren't ready to support a moderate republican this cycle.
Other Info: If it could actually succeed, Senator Cross would support the prohibition of alcohol, and is a teetotaler himself.

The name's James. James Usari. Well, my name is not actually James Usari, so don't bother actually looking it up, but it'll do for now.

Tag for interest.
Hello, it's Zap! If you read this it's most likely on a P2TM roleplay thread. I'm not a native English speaker (or writer for that matter), so if you notice mistakes I am happy to receive feedback. I know I'm prone to dangling modifiers, capitalization mistakes, use of commas, and other errors. If I were to use a semicolon, there's a 97% chance I just put it there because they look fancy; I have no idea how they work. If it's spelling it just means Grammarly wasn't cooperating. Thanks.

Character Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Zaporizhian Host
Character Name: Christian Benitez
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 43
Character Role: Senator
Appearance:
Image

Character State of Origin: Illinois
Character Affiliation: Republican
Main Strengths: He is young and bright, charismatic, a good negotiator, pragmatic and confident. Has been described as a new but recognizable face in the christian right.
Main Weaknesses: He is young and inexperienced, is often attacked with having "lack of integrity" and being a "flip-flop politician". His senate seat was also partially bought by donors.
Short Bio: Christian's parents were both mexican immigrants, who settled in Chicago during the late 60's. His father managed to get a job on a auto factory, and after a few years he could supply his wife and their newly born daughter a small house in the suburbs. In 1972, the newly promoted sales manager Hector Benitez and his wife Estella got their third child, and first son. Christian would become the middle child of five, growing up in a calm neighbourhood and a strictly catholic family. His father praised the country he had immigrated to, and teached his children to be thankful for the smallest gifts.

Christian did well in school, and worked very hard on weekends during high school to get money for college. He studied law and political science in Boston, working at a bar on nights and a cafe on mornings. He would join Bob Dole's campaign in 1996, and graduated in 1995. He moved back to Chicago where he got a job as an attorney. He also managed to become an intern of David R. Leitch, a representative in the Illinois house. In 2000, he could with a large campaign cash from donors and friends in the republican party of Illinois win a seat in the Illinois house of representatives. He was noticed by republican establishment early on, by excelling as a young and promising future high tier politican in the party. He made several statements giving him fame nationally, including support for President Bush's foreign policy and the war in Iraq.

In 2005, he resigned and left the Illinois house of representatives to candidate for the US house of representatives. Again, he managed to win and this time against a democratic incumbent. He would become one of the house's most prominent members during his second term, when the republican party was in minority. He went through a strict training by senior republican members, and establishment invested political capital in him at a large extent. He switched positions and reasserted himself to the establishment. He became much more fiscally and socially conservative, having been known as more moderate before. In 2010 however, rumors of him being bought by business donors and extramarital affairs, as well as the democratic opponent having a large campaign cash herself made him loose his seat. Republican leadership convinced him to push for campaign for senate, and he came into the senate as one of the tea party movement's main faces in 2011, winning by an unexpected landslide. A first term senator, he would become chairperson on the Subcommittee on Children and Families, as well as an active member in the budget committee and Immigration and the National Interest. He moved politically once again, having branded himself as a tea party conservative but emerging back into the christian right.

Other Info: Married and having 4 children.

Character Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Utopian Islands
Character Name: Dominic "Dom" Finelli
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 42
Character Role: Representative
Appearance:
Image

Character State of Origin: New York
Character Affiliation: Democrat
Main Strengths: Charismatic, independently wealthy, attractive and well-spoken, has cross-party appeal.
Main Weaknesses: Finelli has many skeletons in his closet: he is an alcoholic and serial gambler, abuses steroids and HGH, has several illegitimate children, and assaulted his ex-wife as well as numerous prostitutes. There exists audio footage of Finelli making distasteful remarks about "faggots" and "queers" despite his very prominent public support for LGBT rights.
Short Bio: A high-tech business magnate and respected Web visionary, Dom Finelli was born March 28th, 1973, in Queens, New York. His father, Joe Finelli, was a mechanic and Dom has described his mother, Sarah, as someone with "a different job or different career goal every other week." Finelli's first step into the business world occurred at age 12, when he sold garbage bags to pay for a pair of expensive basketball shoes. He would go on to play basketball at Queensborough Community College before suffering a career-ending knee injury. After two years, Finelli transferred to Penn State where he studied Business Administration. During college, Finelli held a variety of jobs including bartender, dance instructor, and club promoter.

After earning his BBA in 1995, Finelli moved to San Francisco to pursue business opportunities in the emerging digital world. With experienced programmer Chris Jensen and renowned DJ Rico Delgado, Finelli co-founded RadioNet.com -- a website that allowed internet users to access radio stations, or, in his colorful words: “Putting radio on the mother-f**king Internet”. In 1999, the company was sold to Microsoft, making Dom Finelli a billionaire. Since his big break, Finelli has donated millions to combat poverty in the developing world through the Dom Finelli Foundation. In the early 2000s, he spent years in Africa helping combat AIDS. Finelli has done his share of angel investing and managed a GV fund. He is still involved with his first love, basketball, as co-owner of the Golden State Warriors.

In 2012, Finelli was elected to Congress, representing California's 18th Congressional District. Finelli is an outspoken civil libertarian, strongly opposing government surveillance of personal communications and restrictive drug laws. On economic issues he is to the right of most Democrats, advocating for policies that he feels benefits "producers". Finelli favors drastically increasing funding for science and technology initiatives, as well as incentivizing use of alternative energy sources such as solar and wind power. He has been an outspoken supporter of LGBT rights since the 90s.

Other Info: Finelli is twice divorced. He has two children from his second marriage: a son (Vince, 17) and a daughter (Victoria, 14). He and his latest wife, Ashley, recently welcomed a newborn daughter, Vanessa.

Character Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Zaporizhian Host
Character Name: Christian Benitez
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 43
Character Role: Senator
Appearance:

NS Nation Name: King Lorcan
Character Name: Robert Kennedy
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 52
Character Role: Representative for Massachusetts's 9th Congressional District
Appearance:] http://www.stripes.com/polopoly_fs/1.154436.1315446851!/image/1063581604.jpg_gen/derivatives/landscape_804/1063581604.jpg
Character State of Origin: Massachusetts
Character Affiliation (Democrat, Republican or Non-Aligned): Democratic

Main Strengths: Robert Kennedy, like his distant cousins, is a natural statesman; he is a great leader and a great debater. He will pull facts out off the top of his head unlike any other representative.

Main Weaknesses: Robert is also however extremely short-tempered and he has been on the borderline of breaking convention on debates in Congress many times because of this, frustrated with his more extreme Republican Colleagues. This may make him more appealing to the Liberal public back home, but it doesn't make him a good negotiator in Washington DC.

Short Bio: Representative Kennedy is a relative of the other famous Kennedy lines of Jack, Bobby and Teddy Kennedy and as such, has always had a thing for politics, but never saw himself actually going into it. Robert actually started his adult life by joining the US Navy at the age of 21, after studying at Harvard for 3 years, showing leadership and courage, leading to him eventually being promoted to Commander. In 2009, Teddy died, leaving the Kennedy family with not that many in the family interested in politics. Robert stepped up to the table in 2014, resigning from the Navy, and beginning the groundworks for his campaign for Representative for Massachusetts' 9th Congressional District. When Robert resigned from the Navy, barely an eyebrow was raised as to his intentions, but as word got out in early 2015 that Robert was running for the 9th District, the media pounced on the possibility of another Kennedy congressman from Massachusetts. A meeting at the Kennedy compound was called and Robert got the support of the rest of the family who believed that a new generation needed to get into politics, maybe even be President one day. Now, it is 2016 and it's time for the Kennedy's to make a return to the American political scene in a big way.

Accepted. More representatives coming out now, eh? Good, good. The IC isn't far away.

For those wondering, the Presidential elections are not passed. Which means you can present yourselves. Parties can choose the candidates how they want (primaries, caucuses, corruption or tic-tac-toe tournaments. ). I want the Rep and Dems to have one candidate each soon. Independents can run too, but take it, you won't win.

You accepted a character without a surname?
Hello, it's Zap! If you read this it's most likely on a P2TM roleplay thread. I'm not a native English speaker (or writer for that matter), so if you notice mistakes I am happy to receive feedback. I know I'm prone to dangling modifiers, capitalization mistakes, use of commas, and other errors. If I were to use a semicolon, there's a 97% chance I just put it there because they look fancy; I have no idea how they work. If it's spelling it just means Grammarly wasn't cooperating. Thanks.
