2016 is an important year for politics in the United States. This year, the US will have a new president, a new Congress, new governors and politicians to lead it. Do you have the guts to survive this year? Whether you are a senior senator seeking for presidency, a freshman representative suddenly plunged into the activity of DC or an ambitious journalist looking for good scoops in the hall of the Capitol, this year is going to be hard for you. The Political landscape is more polarized than ever, with Republicans and Democrats looking sideways at each other whilst the country is ultimately divided on issues such as ISIS, gay marriage, China, taxes and more or less everything.But beware, for only one rule subsists in the corridors of the Capitol building: the survival of the fittest. Backstabbing, secret deals, questionable arrangements and machiavellic plans are your everyday programme, if you want to keep your head up in this overwhelming world of politics. Meanwhile, the elections are approaching... It is going to be a hard year for you. So, are you ready for it?

Basically, this is a US Political RP in which you will roleplay a Senator or a Representative, possibly a governor, and maybe a candidate for President. It takes place in Washington D.C, hence the name. Upon your election you will have to draft and pass bills, whilst making sure to gain enough popularity in your chamber, and awaiting the next midterm elections, where the majority in senate and the House of Representatives can suddenly change. Apart from the parties (Republicans and democrats) and the places, the characters may not be real. No Trump or Sanders this time! Be creative instead!

What it takes for this RP to stay fun and not become a kind of battlefield (which is complicated when RP'ing RL politics, even with irreal people).

1- OP is God and the Co-OP's are demigods. What I and they say is to be taken for granted.
2- No RL characters Or at least no celebrities. That's no Donald Trump. I knew you were aching to play Trump, but that's no-no.
3- Good quality IC and Frequent posting preferred. Do not neglect real life affairs either, we know how to be tolerant, but know your IC success will be greatly determined by the quality of your IC posts and your motivation. Similarly, one-liners will have more of a hard time.
4- Respect your fellow players. It is become of them you are having fun. RP'ing alone is no fun, so don't forget that one.
5- To propose legislation, TG the Speaker Co-OP for your chamber. If none, TG me by default.
6- No godmod/flawless/perfect characters We hate perfect people. Don't let yourself be hateful.
7- If they're is anything you think would be a bad idea to do, even if it is not listed, don't do it. Ask OOC if you can, but don't go around meta-gaming in the IC and telling me it wasn't written you weren't allowed.
8- Have fun and be creative. If nothing creative and new pops out, we'll be bored...

Today, Senator Cross is a blue-state republican, who's fairly moderate on most social issues, such as gay marriage. Pat doesn't believe the government should define marriage in the first place, and though he personally doesn't agree with homosexuality, it's not as though it harms anyone. On abortion, Pat supports defunding Planned Parenthood, and shifting funding to similar services that don't provide abortions. He doesn't think the government should go as far as to shut it down, however. Concerning foreign policy, Senator Cross is a strong proponent of neoconservatism, supporting intervention, though not just for the sake of itself. The Senator believes that the United States is morally required to aid those who are being unfairly persecuted, and those who could pose a threat to the United States, and also believes that a strong United States is required for global stability. He mainly skirts around most social issues, and focuses on fiscal conservatism and free market capitalism on the campaign trail, be it for a Senatorial campaign or otherwise. Short Bio: Christian's parents were both mexican immigrants, who settled in Chicago during the late 60's. His father managed to get a job on a auto factory, and after a few years he could supply his wife and their newly born daughter a small house in the suburbs. In 1972, the newly promoted sales manager Hector Benitez and his wife Estella got their third child, and first son. Christian would become the middle child of five, growing up in a calm neighbourhood and a strictly catholic family. His father praised the country he had immigrated to, and teached his children to be thankful for the smallest gifts.

Christian did well in school, and worked very hard on weekends during high school to get money for college. He studied law and political science in Boston, working at a bar on nights and a cafe on mornings. He would join Bob Dole's campaign in 1996, and graduated in 1995. He moved back to Chicago where he got a job as an attorney. He also managed to become an intern of David R. Leitch, a representative in the Illinois house. In 2000, he could with a large campaign cash from donors and friends in the republican party of Illinois win a seat in the Illinois house of representatives. He was noticed by republican establishment early on, by excelling as a young and promising future high tier politican in the party. He made several statements giving him fame nationally, including support for President Bush's foreign policy and the war in Iraq.

In 2005, he resigned and left the Illinois house of representatives to candidate for the US house of representatives. Again, he managed to win and this time against a democratic incumbent. He would become one of the house's most prominent members during his second term, when the republican party was in minority. He went through a strict training by senior republican members, and establishment invested political capital in him at a large extent. He switched positions and reasserted himself to the establishment. He became much more fiscally and socially conservative, having been known as more moderate before. In 2010 however, rumors of him being bought by business donors and extramarital affairs, as well as the democratic opponent having a large campaign cash herself made him loose his seat. Republican leadership convinced him to push for campaign for senate, and he came into the senate as one of the tea party movement's main faces in 2011, winning by an unexpected landslide. A first term senator, he would become chairperson on the Subcommittee on Children and Families, as well as an active member in the budget committee and Immigration and the National Interest. He moved politically once again, having branded himself as a tea party conservative but emerging back into the christian right.

He couldn't leave, even after his father was drafted, and died in battle, and his many aunts and uncles were killed in the Bosnian Genocide. He was forced to live with his grandparents until the end of the war, where he moved to the United States. He grew a major interest in politics, which he ran for mayor of Atlanta, the capital city of his native state, when he was 20. He was mayor for 5 years before resigning. He then ran for Senator 4 years ago, and is awaiting his 3rd term. While running for mayor in 2005, he was shot in the back, it barely missing his heart, he was rushed to the hospital, and recovered for two months.
