Which is why in the past few years geologic activity has been on the rise. Plus even a smaller blast would screw up a good portion of the west coast for a while.

source?
I have heard of no net increase in geologic activity in long valley, but regardless the source has been cut off so the risk of eruption is continuously decreasing with time as it cools. yellowstone will bury most (see image) of the US in feet to tens of feet of ash destroying food production, transport, and killing millions of people.

I got quite annoyed after the Haiti earthquake. A baby was taken from the wreckage and people said it was a miracle. It would have been a miracle had God stopped the earthquake. More wonderful was that a load of evolved monkeys got together to save the life of a child that wasn't theirs. ~Terry Pratchett

I'm not sure whether or not the Caldera itself is set to blow, but I do know that that the Mono-Inyo Craters just to the north are much more likely to erupt within the next hundred years or so.

I answer both of you,
There are many types of vlocanoes the type effects the damge greatly
http://vulcan.wr.usgs.gov/Outreach/AboutVolcanoes/volcano_types_quick_reference.html
basalt rich volcanoes are the least dangerous expelling lava which is slow and has a small area of effect producing cones or sheilds, the most dangerous are deep granite rich volcanoes, as they explode spewing ash which is destructive over huge areas, and form Caldera instead of cones.
other factors include the pressure of the magma, the size of the magma chamber, and the
weight of the plug.
Yellowstone has a massive plug building huge pressures over its gigantic and well fed magma chamber. being in the center of a very thick continent it is also very granite rich, it is in a sense the perfect storm of volcanic destructive power. Its placment right in front of (by jet stream standing) one of the largest food producing centers in the world,

I have heard of no net increase in geologic activity in long valley, but regardless the source has been cut off so the risk of eruption is continuously decreasing with time as it cools. yellowstone will bury most (see image) of the US in feet to tens of feet of ash destroying food production, transport, and killing millions of people.
