Giving the kid a patdown in that situation is fine. They just should have been more gentle about it and not gone into panic mode. It's not that hard to take a minute to explain to the kid what is going on.

No I'm not, but being a father doesn't let you make an ass out of yourself in front of tons people at an airport because your daughter is getting a 30 second pat down.

Just another instance of the MAN keeping us down.

Seriously.. the TSA agents implied that the girl's Grandmother gave her a gun?

NOBODY in their right mind would give a gun to 4-year old.

Next time I fly, if they got a scanner, I'm gonna walk through naked.

That was the problem. Not the pat down itself.

Nobody in their right mind would fly planes into buildings or put explosives in their underwear, but it happens. This would have an effect on the girl and her family for a week at the most, if they were very emotionally unstable. If that plane had been hijacked, it would effect a lot more families a lot longer.

No, because my future children would be much more scarred if they got checked and then saw their daddy beating the shit/getting the shit beat out of and then getting hauled off to jail.

And it'll be interesting for your family's doctor when one of your kids gets an examination...

What's the problem, exactly? Close contact with someone who just a moment ago set off the alarm is generally considered a no-no. I'm not a fan of the TSA, but that would have set off red flags for me, if I were security.

Because a grandmother and a four year old are totally gun-or-bomb weilding psychopaths working for al-Qaeda. It's unnecessary paranoia, plain and simple.

I'd like the TSA to be paranoid. It means that the risk of someone getting a bomb, weapon, or drugs through drops dramatically.

Unless you want to just ban Muslims from being allowed in airports, then there is no alternative other than not flying.

If there was a concern that the girl had been given a gun by her grandmother, then why didn't they just send her through the metal detector again to check before attempting to pat her down?

I tremble at your power.

But seriously, assuming that someone is a bad father because they would act logically makes about as much sense as getting yourself arrested because airport security wants to check any and all possible threats; none. Like I said, if you're acting on behalf of your kids, you'd be making it worse by attacking security.
