So after my April Fool's binge two weeks ago, I've started feeling more comfortable putting up my art on NationStates.

Been piddling around with a couple uniform designs since then:

Not bad, these all seem reasonable practical military uniforms. Just a question, how would you upload your own personal art on to Nationstates? Would you have to post it on deviantart or something then copy the URL? Or is there a way to upload it directly from your computer?

I'm pretty sure that hotlinking from DA is a violation of their TOS, though I'd have to check on that. Anyway, I do like keeping my DA and NS accounts separate, so I use a photobucket account and upload them there.

I approve of this work. I myself have been trying to create stuff for my country but havent had the time, fricking a levels, keep it up!

I've been having a conversation on drawing and comicking with NFP over in her thread, and how I do my inking came up. Me being a "show don't tell" sort of person, I decided I'd patch together an example of how I do my drawing:

I do a quick structure of a pose I decided on earlier. This is my basic shape that I work with.

Now I add details onto the body.

Then I go over the pencils with an 0.05 mm pen and erase the pencils when I'm done.

I go over all the inks again, doing the outlines with 0.3 and 0.2 mm pens while I go over the lines within the outlines with my 0.5 mm pen. Sometimes I add small details with an 0.03 mm pen. As soon as I'm done, I scan at 600 dpi. Since I work at that high a resolution mostly in case I want to print at some point in time, the next few steps don't look very different when shrunk down. So here's a closeup of the fist as well.

Then I import it into Photoshop and fiddle with the brightness and contrast until only absolute black and absolute white pixels remain.

Now I fix any lines that felt too thick or any mistakes I made. After that, I run the "Dust and Scratches" filter to smooth the lines a bit. Since this looks exactly the same as the previous step when shrunk to 72 dpi, only the fist is displayed.

This is where I mess around with photoshop to smooth my lines a bit.

7. I create a new layer.
8. I switch to the channel tab and load the (gray) channel as a selection. After this I hit ctrl-shift-I to invert the selection.
9. I make a path out of the selection and then after making sure I have black as my foreground color selected, I fill the path.

Then comes coloring, but it's past 2:15 so it's not happening tonight.
