I am trying to make Silver Lake better, like one of the greatest ever on NationStates, and I need some advice. We already have a forum being made by the Delegate of The South Pacific, Hileville and I have to admit, he's pretty awesome. We also have a Military, Regional Government, and 7 successfully passed laws. Is there anything else I can do to make Silver Lake a better place?

The first thing visitors see when they visit your region is a bunch of RMB posts that sound like 6-10 real life high school or middle school students having ungrammatical arguments. If that's your target demographic, go for it. Figure out what kids want to do, and invite them in to do it.

Older players probably won't be interested in participating in a region like that regardless of your passed laws or government positions. It's going to be obvious that friends will be more likely to put other RL friends in all the better positions, so why bother? I can start my own region and instantly be President or Dictator for Life if I want - what makes your government positions attractive?

You're also handicapped by your region's name, which sounds like something local to you. The naturally-evolved large regions of NS are things like Europe, 10000 Islands, and Capitalist Paradise. The big recruiting regions have names like Region Inc, Europeia, and Grand Central. All are big, sweeping concepts. You have a lake. See the difference?

Take a puppet and move in to a successful region. Join their offsite forum. Don't say much until you understand how they do things. See what is popular there, and then take the ideas back to your own region. It takes time to build a community, so don't expect to get it right your first time, or even in your first year.

And my advice to Tyler is to first stop the ungrammatical RMB chatter. It's really a major turn off.

Also: Your forum isn't that awesome from first glance. If you want a successful forum, then you should really get away from the default Zetaboards skin as your default. Pick one of your other 3 skins as the default skin on the forum. Talk to Hileville about helping you on that since he made the forum for you.

Another Major piece of advice: Don't say that you're raiding Minecraft on your RMB. It instantly clues everybody into what you're doing.

Also: The flag. It looks like the flag of a School District. After searching a bit, I found out it is the flag of a school district. If you want to appeal to people that aren't RL friend, get creative with the flag.

Aside from that. The name Silver Lake and the flag of the School District of Silver Lake is quite unsafe. From this it can now be infered, by adding other things, Where you go to school, what state its in, what town it's in. With people like Govindia playing NS, I don't suggest revealing that much info.

Also. In the past, Europeia has offered assistance to regions such as your own. Would that be something you'd be interested in?

I'm not too knowledgeable about region building, but I know a fair amount about NS militaries. And this may sound harsh, but yours is simply laughable. Not the size, for a 30 nation region having 6 soldiers isn't too shabby. But your tactics and strategies need a LOT of work.

Remember the first rule of any military is discretion. Don't give away ANY information that could jeopardize a mission. Tim has already mentioned not talking about your targets in public areas (not just the RMB, don't discuss them in public on your forum either. Use a restricted access area so only trusted members can see). But you also can't go listing who your nations in the military are. Doing that means you're gonna wind up in some FRA/UDL dossier, and every attempted invasion you do is going to be spotted nearly instantly, especially now that you've made clear that you intend to be a raider group. All your soldiers should resign WA status immediately, and create a secret secondary nation and have those join the WA instead. They should NOT move to Silver Lake and should have fairly innocuous names. That way, you can keep your list of military members but keep which nations you'll be using a secret.

Decide on a direction you want for your region. Politics, defender/raider, roleplay etc. You can do more once you have a solid community but i'd choose one for the start. Then recruit like blazes. No one enjoys it but it has to be done. A good TG message will draw in the people, not too long but not too short.

This region has tried to recruit in my Warzone. http://www.nationstates.net/page=rmb/postid=1052463 Whilst legal, unlike Feeders or Sinkers, I had to earn every member that comes here and your recruitment attempt is a direct threat to my existence. I also consider the use of TSP's name in your recruitment message an attempt to sour Warfront/Warzone Airspace own cordial relationship with TSP.

Without an apology I will be taking this as a declaration of war on my region.
