How did your current economic system came into being?

Postby Flaming Soul Forces » Thu Nov 24, 2011 2:27 pm

How did your current economic system came into being? Usually it would be through reformist or revolutionary means.

In Flaming Soul Forces the current system of market socialism came into being through reform as part of the democratic process.

More specifically, after 1945 the newly-founded Egalitarian Party emerged as the biggest party in government.
The party had as its main demand the implementation of economic equality but it couldn't put that forward on its own and it had to negotiate with the other parliamentary parties, the Libertarian Party and the Democratic Party.

The Libertarian Party disillusioned from classical liberalism and the free market, adopted social liberalism instead, and the Democratic party had always advocated decentralisation and direct democracy. As a compromise, market socialism was adopted that involved a market but with economic equality as an outcome. The new economic model was put to a referendum and was accepted by the vast majority of the citizenry in 1945

Our economic system, if you can call it that, came into being after the people saw that money only creates suffering through poverty, one is denied the right to shelter, healthcare, education, and even food if they do not have any money. We were appalled by this, so, we abolished currency and made everything free, in the sense that one doesn't need money to buy anything, only a smile. :)

The United Kingdom of Malgrave follows the principle of a social market economy, such economic development was theorized and debated in intellectual and political circles from 1919 to 1925 when it was finally implemented by the Progressive Party.

The People's Republic of Nadir's leader, The Supreme Person GERNY, is also the nation's greatest economist. GERNY devised the theory of basing the nation's economy on rainbows and so it has been.

Our current economic system has always essentially been around in various forms: Ever since people moved beyond the tribal structure and had to start dealing with strangers that they didn't really care about at all, we needed some method of carrying out transactions without resorting to people simply shooting and stabbing each other, and that's what the free market is about.

Almost 50 years of dominance in Cheltish politics between 1924-1970 by the Conservative Whig Party cemented the free market capitalist system which successive Labour Party governments were forced to reluctantly maintain for fear of backlash from the middle classes. The Whig Party had split from the Conservative Party in 1902 over the issue of free trade and rode to electoral success soonafter on the back of mounting discontent among merchant and industrial interests towards the bipartisan support for heavy protectionism in Parliament. With the Conservative Party embattled, driven to the political backwoods and perpetual opposition because of the mass defection to the Whig Party of its supporters, in 1921 the Conservative Party abandoned protection and re-merged with the Whigs to form the Conservative Whig Party (informally just called the Whigs), balancing liberal, free market economic policies with traditional conservatism, and the merger in 1921 was what saw the Whigs achieve almost unbroken dominance between 1924-1970.

We used to be capitalists, à la US style, but that changed when the Teddy Communist Party came into power, and implemented new policies (including the creation of many industries we know today (Roger Donalds, Air Toyland etc), raising the standards of living), and we have been somewhat socialist (to varying degrees, of course, depending on the administration) ever since.

The current social market economy model in place was implemented with the support of HRH King Tuwan by the Advisor of Economic Development in the mid-1960s, much to the chagrin of big business and libertarian groups.

The Kel-Morian Alliance's economic system was originated from the mining of natural resources across our planet.
The following economic boom resulted in the creation of seven mining guilds which cooperated with each others.
All mining guilds challenged each others to dominate all natural resources after they were driven by their greed.

Only two major mining guilds known as the Kelanis Mining Coalition and the Morian Mining Coalition survived.
Those major mining guilds established a powerful alliance to protect themselves from the Terran Confederacy.
Those major mining guilds practiced "corporatocracy": a government which is ruled by a group of corporations.

It is clear that our economic system uses state capitalism which has its ultimate goal to make us as an economic superpower.

Capitalism in Saurisia originated in the lucrative trade Saurus and the Saurian Republic had enjoyed with her neighbors. Shortly after its founding, the city started gaining a reputation as a trade center due to the large number of merchants and tradesdinos who were among the original settlers as well an abundance of produced goods, meats, as well as resources found in the area in which the city was located. The city grew and prospered thanks to this and as a result, over time, city grew more power and its influence began to spread across the land.

Because of the huge amount of wealth the Saurian Kingdom/Republic accumulated, it was able to expand its capital and turn it into a large majestic city as well as found other cities and make them equally magnificent as well as being able to maintain a powerful and well-funded army and navy to protect its land and trade from robbers and rival nations.

As the nation grew larger, more power, and conquered as well as assimilated more of its neighbors, it was able to harvest even more resources than before and traded more with other countries and city-states in its surroundings, further prospering from its trade.

John Horridus, inspired by this long history of trade and wealth, began publishing and spreading his ideas of how an economy should be managed: through minimal government intervention and the encouraging of merchants to seek ways to gain further profit. These were implemented in the Saurisian economy and were further bolstered by the teachings of first John Locke in the late 18th century and then the Austrian economists Hayek and von Mises in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These are the teachings upon which the Saurisian economy were founded upon and thus continue to ever prosper and grow in the global economy.

Anti-New Deal

Postby TurtleShroom » Mon Jan 30, 2012 3:16 pm

TurtleShroom is a hardcore capitalist realm that has few restrictions on all industries that don't promote evil (e.g. drugs, sex). The rich get richer and monopolies are the cuthroat name of the game.
Corporations can hire and fire at their pleasure and discrimination laws are non-existant. There are no minimum wages, and there really isn't anything except safety regulations to prevent injury and death on the job, and to provide fiscal support to those who literally can not work for a long period of time (e.g. a year to forever).

(Death by a company's product generally requires a one-time compensation and a sticker describing what not to do, such as "DO NOT INSERT HAND HERE". Other than that, there are no real changes, with some exceptions. If the person is only injured, the company will not be punished, but the Church will probably have a love offering to pay for the medical expenses, if insurance can't do that job.)

The Constitution of TurtleShroom (as amended) prohibits the government from mandating or subsidizing the private sector, as well as regulating it in general. The state can enforce contracts and punish companies that commit fraud or cause their employees or their employees' livelihoods to die or be heavily wounded, and the state can also ban immoral industries from existence (like tobacco, prostitution, or fetish niche markets, to name a few), but the Constitution requires an all or nothing- "ban or allow" -formula that really means the government only excercises Free Market regulation when "evil" arises.

A monopoly in TurtleShroom will not be harmed unless it price gouges (considered a form of racketeering and abuse of power), and the punishment won't be breaking the monopoly, but rather, fining it and issuing a Bill of Attainder forcing it to lower its prices for the sake of Morality.

If a factory worker has their hand ripped off by a machine, the government can require the company to pay the exact worth of the medical bills of the employee, but nothing more and nothing less. Workman's compensation will follow if they can't go back to work for a good long time.

The seeds were sewn in the 1890s when oil was first tapped and utilized in TurtleShroom, using imported technology from the exotic, faraway land of "Americaland" (RL USA). The oil companies quickly became all-powerful monopolies and lobbied the TurtleShroomer government that had just barely turned a century old.

Although this is usually considered the foundation of the hardcore laizzez faire/capitalist system in TS, the railroads had long enjoyed the same power and authority in the nation, though the government had a large "Ministry of Rail" to conduct and advance it for their agenda. (The railroads were 100% privatized in the 1990s.)
The Railroad department almost always rubberstamped the railroads' requests, so it was like they weren't even there.

Unlike RL USA, TurtleShroom's direction from 1890-1930 was to reward monopolies by eliminating antitrust and trust-busting from existence. Monopolies grew in clout and authority and the severe rich-poor-divide (one of the universe's top ten percent highest) came to be. Unrestricted corporate lobbying reminiescent of RL USA in 2010 came to be in the 1920s.

In the 1930s, the TurtleShroomer economy was booming while Americaland has smashed into a depression. (This was because of TS oil.) TurtleShroom never traded with USA because they were way to far apart, but started closing themselves into self-sustainment.

In the 1930s, we performed a sort of "anti-New Deal" that WEAKENED the power of government over corporations. Minimum wages were abolished, most restrictions on lobbying and organization were repealed, and the government essentially stepped back and said "go crazy". The Constitution was heavilly amended to ensure a free market, laizzez faire "captain of industry" paridise.

Sadly, this business climate doesn't give TurtleShroom an almighty economy, because the government absolutely bankrupted companies if they dared try and, say, dump toxic waste into the sea (corruption), harmed an employee on the job, engaged in illegal industries (racketeering), worked in evil dictatorships in order to avoid corruption (fraud), or gave bribes.
