CASSADAIGUA WORLD CUP OF HOCKEY 17 ROSTER

Coach: Courtney Rangen, 56 (3rd WCOH)
Assistant: Sarah Kennedy, 50
Assistant: Melanie Roy, 49 (Starting goalie for the WCOH 8 championship team)

Goalies:
Starter: #33- Stacie Dupree, 28 (6'1", 192)
Backup: #35- #34- Kaitlyn Oakley, 25 (6'2", 201)

Starting Lineup:

Line 1:

LW: #11- Danielle Martin, 26 (6'1", 193)
C: #16- Meghan Stafford (C), 30 (5'11" 166)
RW: #37- Stefanie Hughes, 29 (5'10, 172)

Stefanie plays on the LW at home but switched to the right in WCOH 16 so that Danielle Martin could also play on the top line. It was a gamble, but it paid off in Cotdelapoms and as such coach Rangen confidently goes back to that again.. Stafford is the most prolific goal scorer in our history, allowing there to be more to talk about concerning her then her stunning beauty.

Line 2:

LW: #44- David Stoddard, 28 (6'8", 241)
C: #23- Megan Sommerville, 31 (6’2”, 207)
RW: #19- Rachel Cooke, 27 (6'2", 194)

Sommerville and Cooke have been linemates now for the 4th WCOH, and Stoddard joined the line in the last Cup. It’s a veteran line that works with Cooke as the speedy wing, Stoddard as the power forward, and Sommerville as the skilled center who can get them the puck and score a few herself.

Line 3:

LW: #12- Bridget Ashford, 30 (6'6", 225)
C: #25- Julie O’Connell (A), 36 (5’8”, 172)
RW: #10- Byron Washington, 29 (6'7" 245)

No changes to the checking line. O’Connell is Miss Selke in Cassadaigua if you get my point and despite getting older, she’s such an all-around leader that she continues to be a mainstay in the lineup. Washington isn’t afraid to, and rather enjoys, dropping the gloves, but he can stick it in the net too.

Line 4:

LW: #26- Chase Willis, 21 (5'5", 152) First time on team
C: #17- Natalie Conroy, 28 (5'10, 171)
RW: #18- Katia Kasitonov, 21 (5'8" 166)

Unlike other teams that may have their 4th line be a goon line, this is more of a youth line. If anyone things they can push these smaller players around, expect to see Byron Washington double-shifted, although towering defensemen Michael Macchio figures to be on the ice whenever they are to ensure no funny business goes on.

D Pair 1:

LD: #52- Michael Macchio, 23 (6'7", 231)
RD: #3- Samantha Preston (A), 29 (6'1", 206)

Preston is an offensive minded defensemen and a PP quarterback. She is the young sister of Andrew Preston, the first ever male captain of any Cassadagan sports team, and for the first time assumes the “A” on her jersey. Macchio is promoted from the second pairing and is a gritty checker who should complement Preston well. His overall hockey instincts go well beyond his young age.

D Pair 2:

LD: #5- Katie Robinson, 26 (6'3", 182) First time Starting
RD: #7- Cheryl Tollner, 33 (6'5" 226)

Both are gritty checkers, with a defense first, second, and third mentality

D Pair 3:

LD: #32- Timothy Lyons, 31 (6’4”, 215)
RD: #4- Charlotte Stanley, 28 (6’2”, 207)

Lyons is capable defensively, but has a wicked slapshot. Stanley was accepted to the team because of her last name. Well, and she’s a pretty good stay at home type, too.

PP Unit 1: Martin-Stafford-Hughes; Macchio-S. Preston
PP Unit 2: Stoddard-Sommerville-Cooke; Ashford-Lyons
PK Unit 1: O’Connell-Sommerville; Tollner-Macchio
PK Unit 2: Ashford-Washington; S. Preston- Stanley

At times, Sommerville will replace Garrett as a 4th forward on the PP, but not too often. If this happens, then if the second pair is needed, it will be Natalie Conroy or Katia Kasitonov getting some PP time.

Reserves:

W: #45- John Miller, 22 (6'2" 212)
W: #9- Stacie Cornett, 19 (5'6", 148) First time on team
W: #14- Jessica Stasberg, 27 (6'3, 225)
W: #77- Rob Boucher, 29 (6'6", 241)
C: #61- Kiersten Woodford, 27 (5'11", 172)
C: #13- Brett Gannon, 27 (6'7", 245)
D: #36- Ciara Patenaude, 26 (6'4", 191)
D: #6- Brittany Desjardins, 25 (6'2", 179)
D: #38- Michael DeLauria, 26 (6'8", 242)
D: #27- Rebecca Hopper, 22 (6'4", 201) First time on team
G: #41- Tatiana Larionov, 24 (5'10", 170) First time on team

Nation: The Federal Republic of Allamunnic States
Team: Iron Tide
Team Colors: Royal Blue, Dark Grey,
Style Modifier: -1

Choose my scorers: Unless it's absolutely critical to your RP that you choose my scorers, I'd rather you didn't. Feel free to pick the time and/or method of scoring, though.
Penalise my players: Yes, preferably a roughness or contact-related penalty. I’d prefer a TG first to clear it.
Eject my players: Yes, if it fits into the game well. Don't simply eject players if it wouldn't make sense from an RP or story standpoint. TG first.
Injure my players: Yes, but I determine severity outside of game-ending for a player.
Godmod scoring: Make it interesting if you use this. TG with me first.
Godmod injuries: Make it interesting if you use this. TG with me first.
Godmod other events: Make it interesting if you use this. TG me first.

Overview: The "Volunteers" system seems to have worked well; players, at least temporarily, for the duration of their time with the team, resign all contracts with domestic teams or franchises, and join the national team full-time. This change in approach yielded the first World Bowl playoff appearances for an Allamunnic team, and a championship run for the lacrosse team, so the formerly-lackluster hockey team hopes to continue to benefit from the change in approach.

Physicality has generally been a strength of Allamunnic teams, not finesse. It’s those roots the Tide is looking to get back to, as they'll try to bludgeon every team they face with superior power, strength, and aggression, and they'll focus more than ever on playing fast and hard after being outclassed by a championship-winning Plutoni squad in the quarterfinals in the 12th WCoH. An aggressive offense will likely be the hallmark of this team. There will be a very good power-play presence for this team, with hopefully a lot of scoring overall. Expect good penalty-killing, as well. Fighting will not be nearly as prevalent as it was last time around, but it will still be a big part of the way the Tide plays.

It is worth note that it was decided that a specific enforcement line was no longer necessary, as the normal players seem to be physical enough in how they play.

Head Coach: Kyle Smart - (Age: 45) - After a bad result in the Sixteenth World Cup of Hockey, Smart should start worrrying about his job prospects; while another bad finish might not end his career with the national hockey team, it certainly won't do him any favors when the hockey team is one of the nation's two "big four" squads (the gridiron, ice hockey, soccer, and lacrosse) squads without a championship, and more importantly, the only one with high expectations on it that still lacks a championship.

1st Line - Balanced

LW#03 Skaade Saen-Vaalhulm (Height: 5'6"; Weight: 156lbs; Age: 24) - Skaade has taken her place at the head of the team with the rest of her recruiting wave (Braannur and Maarks), and made for a fully Skraeling starting line. Skaade, like Maarks, has a surprising propensity for roughness and physical play. She's about as likely to score as any of the starters, and is certainly quite competent at setting up plays for other players and giving the opportunity to cherry-pick goals. Saen-Vaalhulm is a fixture on the power-play, as a general rule.

C#22 Theodur Braannur (Height: 6'1"; Weight: 255lbs; Age: 24)(C) - Braannur was one of the more pleasant surprises that the team found when they first started looking around to recruit players. Braannur's natural talent, both in skating and stick-handling (as well as passing and shooting) made him an attractive enough prospect. Add to that good size, a knack for physical play classic of Allamunnic players, and an unusual degree of maneuverability, and you've got a dangerous player. Of course, add to that a knack for play-making, and you've got an even more dangerous player. Then, pair him wiht Kristin, and you've got quite possibly the biggest hazard to your championship hopes. He contributes on the powerplay and is a noted penalty-killer.

RW#02 Kristin Maarks (Height: 5'6"; Weight: 141lbs; Age: 26) - Kristin is one of the most explosive players on the team and is a fast, accurate, and agile player. She’s got a surprising mean streak, and will team up with Theo Braannur for just about everything. Kristin has a nasty (for opposing defenses) tendency to find the net when it should be impossible. Add that to her being one of the smallest players with a propensity for fighting and a scrappy attitude on the ice, and you've got a handful to deal with, even without the other four players moving around. Maarks tends to stick around and goal-vulture during the powerplay, so watch out.

2nd Line - Rotating Players

LW#81 Zak Crist (Height: 6'0"; Weight: 252lbs; Age: 26) - Crist is a rising left-winger who's main job at the moment is to gain experience and occasionally give the starters a breather. Crist is, though, a newly-recruited player who the Tide should be able to keep on hand for some time to come. Crist's tendencies lean towards attack and set-up for other players. He's on the inexperienced side, and is a little prone to erratic play in high-stress situations. Zak is a safe option when it comes to penalty-killing, though he's the most likely to come out; they can manage without a left-winger for a little bit.

C#88 Dann Rikken (Height: 5'10"; Weight: 244lbs; Age: 23) - Rikken is another newly-recruited player. He is possessed of some rather good scoring abilities, and is a good shooter, and is plenty good at setting up plays for other players. Rikken is also, alas, inexperienced. His mix of power and finesse, though, and his heavy amount of natural talent makes him a good player to keep around, especially if he matures and keeps up his talent and intensity.

RW#85 Haanryk Dercyk (Height: 6'0"; Weight: 248lbs; Age: 39)(A) - Deryck is, by far, the most experienced part of the second line. He has a knack for finding the goal, can play quite physically, has plenty of break-away capability, and passes quite precisely. His shots can snap past most goalies without too much problem, and he has the Allamunnic team spirit flowing through him; he's more than capable of sitting back and taking a supporting role to the others, if necessary. Dercyk's presence will be felt when it comes time to penalty-kill.

3rd Line - Reserve Line

LW#35 Leopold Oakes (Height: 6'3"; Weight: 248lbs; Age: 31) - Oakes is an AHL veteran who's decided to take his skills to the national team full-time. He's a solid, reliable, and flexible player who can be plugged in at any time to keep things moving and functioning properly. That said, don't expect any fireworks, either in fisticuffs or scoring from this disciplined supporting-player.

C#00 Annaka Larsson (Height: 5'6"; Weight: 160lbs; Age: 20) - Annaka seems to have all of Theo's explosive tendencies, but little of his size. Instead, she seems to have made up for it with some ridiculous speed and a nearly-terrifying scoring ability. Unfortunately, she's a little on the inexperienced side, having just come out of high school. Therefore, she'll be playing a reservist's role unless the competition is truely laughable or injuries start to cripple the team. Of course, sometimes they might take advantage of powerplays to stick her into the line and see what she can do.

RW#51 Benjamin Steinfeld (Height: 6'1"; Weight: 233lbs; Age: 27) - Steinfeld is a player who had been unemployed for almost a year when the call went out from the team for reserve players. Having survived the cuts, Steinfeld has endeared himself to coaches with his work-ethic rather than his more-or-less average talent level. Steinfeld is an obvious reservist who can be counted on to come in and play his position well (although he's a little more defensively-inclined), or at least well-enough that glaring problems won't show up.

Defensemen

First Pairing

RD#66 Haanryk Grimmur (Height: 6’1”; Weight: 285 lbs; Age: 29)(A) – Grimmur is probably the single most violent and undisciplined defenseman that the Tide still has, which means that, rough-and-tumble as he is, and as fight-prone as he may be, they can probably start worrying about other things now. Though he'll sometimes drop the gloves, Grimmur is, on the whole, much more disciplined than his former partner on the Iron Tide, Artie Weiss. Grimmur plays some airtight defense, to boot, even if he is a little lacking in the maneuverability department. What on earth would have made you think this guy wasn't a penalty-killer?

LD#55 Joe Quinn (Height: 6’0”; Weight: 254 lbs; Age: 28) – Who’s this guy? Only an excellent defenseman. Joe Quinn, in addition to being a very good defensive player, with good instincts, good speed, good size, and discipline is also a good shooter and can turn a turnover into a score for the Tide. Look out for this kid, or he'll make you pay, especially now that he's got the starting job with Artie Weiss' departure. Don't be surprised to see Quinn on the ice during powerplays or when it comes time to penalty-kill.

Second Pairing:

RD#18 Joe Willems (Height: 6'1"; Weight: 212lbs; Age: 29) - Joe is a competent player, and a good, reliable, stabilizing defender. Joe is noted for playing his responsibilities closely and conscientiously, and moreover doing it well. That said, Willems lacks that certain spark that some of the other players have.

LD#95 Thomas McKnight (Height: 6’0”; Weight: 254 lbs; Age: 27) – Last year, Thomas McKnight saw most of his limited action at center. However, with the team's needs at defenseman increasing, the powerful, versatile young man has moved to left defenseman, and provides a bit of flexibility to the defense; he's quite good at covering his defensive responsibilities, but still has the memory of playing center going for him, which means he's used to and capable of capitalizing on turnovers to make them into points, or at least harassing shots on goal. Due to his offensive experience, McKnight tends to come in during powerplays to help out.

Third Pairing:

RD#24 Sheila O'Connor (Height: 5'8"; Weight: 141lbs; Age: 28) - Sheila is a reliable defender, good at separating attackers from the puck by hook or by crook, and is more than willing to smack some heads to get it back and away from their own goal. Sheila is unlikely to be heavily penalized, and probably won't get too many goals, either. Perhaps a few assists.

LD#71 Hailey Kierkegaard (Height: 5'7"; Weight: 174lbs; Age: 21) - And then there's Hailey. Hailey seems to have all the makings of an excellent, athletic, finesse-geared defender, and she's smart enough to not let anyone fool her or distract her from playing her responsibilities well. That said, Hailey's also on the inexperienced side, and has yet to fully adjust, stamina-wise and mind-set-wise to high- and international-level play, so she's stuck in a reserve spot while she develops.

Goalkeepers

GK#07 Aandrik Stok (Height: 6'1"; Weight: 231lbs; Age: 28) - Aandrik is a crazily-athletic goalie who specializes in making spectacular and efficient saves. He has great stamina, and since the split with the AHL, Stok has assumed the starting goalie's duties. Stok and Galloway alternate starts, but there's no doubt in any observer's mind which is the more efficient of the two.

GK#09 Felix Galloway (Height: 6'0"; Weight: 225lbs; Age: 30) - Felix is a goalie brought in due to the earlier-than-expected split between the AHL and the personnel of the national team. Felix is probably the lesser of the two goalies, but he's not too shabby a player himself. Either way, the Tide will have someone they can count on in-net.

FEDERATION OF POLAR ISLANDSTATES ROSTER

Ice Hockey in the Federation, for all its climate may hint at a national obsession, is still lounging below football and vying with rugby in terms of popularity. However, thanks to a performance that surpassed expectations at the last world cup as well as a hard fought victory for Hounds of Juura in the last Champions League of Hockey, it's appeal is growing faster than any other sport at the moment. The NPHL has proved a success so far since its foundation, and the traditional heartlands of the sport in the east and south are starting to spread towards its other hotbed in Kuril Arkhipelago.

Polarians are a warm bunch, every as warm as the land they habit is cold, and are ruthlessly efficient and athletic almost naturally. They are pacifists by nature, and will rarely start fights. This doesn't mean they won't fight back, of course... Fierce rivalries between the more hot-headed members of the squad from the bigger domestic teams, such as Invermuir Eagles and Hounds of Juura, or Matua Ice Wolves and Fjorhorgen Generals, can sometimes spill out onto the ice, and inter-squad arguments are something that coaches Idris Heliokomman and Nils Freidrichson are having to deal with on a more frequent basis. Inspirational leader Radoslav Invermuir could be one of the best Polarians to have ever graced the ice however, and his presence often quells any disputes.

We're Plutoni and the robots are in italics.

RPers can do whatsoever they want. Most of the team generally doesn't tend to start fights, though will fight back if provoked. Ludov and Lidiku are more likely to instigate stuff.

Republic Hockey Team Arrives in Valanora ; Prepares for World Cup

From the Republic Associated Times, 2011.3.12.12

After weeks and weeks of practice and months of planning, the Avatarian National Ice Hockey team has arrived in the fabled lands of Valanora to compete in the seventeenth edition of the World Cup of Hockey.

The twenty-eight men of the Avatarian National Ice Hockey Team boarded the national airline GyatsoAir's pristine Airbus A380 for the distant lands of Plutoni following a State Dinner with the Avatar. Before the team boarded the A380, the Avatar gave his blessing to the team, calling for The Spirits to bring them great victory. In response to such a blessing, Head Coach Kad Skirata made a speech in honour of the Avatar, thanking him for pushing for the allowance of national teams to compete world-wide; something which has spurred the national economy as well as creating a surge in cultural cohesion....

To honour the return of the Ice Bisons to the International Stage, GyatsoAir --- in partnership with the AHL and the National Sports Council --- have further reduced the prices of airline tickets to Valanora to facilitate the spectatorship of the nation for this historic series; given the great distances to Valanora, the National Sports Council has pulled together with the Avatarian Federation of Lodging Institutions to create several packages available which will include lodging for the duration of the series as well as airplane tickets. These partnerships are intended on boosting the attendance of Avatarian Fans at the World Cup of Hockey XVII. In addition, each game the Bisons play in shall be aired on the entire ASPN family of networks (ASPN Prime, ASPN2, AVS, ASPN3, UASPN): All other games shall air on the World Sports Nation and World Sports Nation PLUS. If the Bisons make it to the higher rungs of the World Cup, then all games shall be aired exclusively on ASPN Prime, which is being made available on all television and internet-provider services at NO COST from now until the conclusion of the World Cup.

GK – 41– SHU Huanguo

The ‘Great Wall of Shu’ makes his third trip to the World Cup of Hockey, after yet another great season in Cotdelapoms. While many in the AHL are wishing Shu would make a return to his homeland league, it is being seen by many as a way to get international sports better showings on ASPN and the various other sports channels on Avatarian media networks.

His style of play has not changed since he’s left the AHL; your classic butterfly goalie with more of the modern profly positioning of his leg pads, Shu had the fastest reflects of any goaltender in the AHL and now has shown the world his skills. However, he is not as agile as men of shorter stature and as such, is known to lose the puck on the rebound as he attempts to 'catch up' to the play… something he still has not worked around while in Montréal.

While Shu was replaced in the final games of WCoH XVI, Skirata has stated that he still feels that Shu is the better netminer; his experience far outranks the younger Zhao Hotaka, and in Skirata's book, experience outweighs everything.

LD – 32– SATO Sorua
Height: 191cm - Weight: 100kg – Age: 21 years old – Hand: R - Team: University of Kibago (ACSA)

A second line defenceman from the Junior National Team which finished second in the last World Junior Hockey Championships, Sato Sorua is a strong player whom Skirata continues to favour. In his final year at the University of Kibago, Sato is set to enter the 2012.1 AHL Draft in the top ten, with an expected destination being the close-by Enceri Miners.

A strong defence player, Sato originally played the right side of the ice, however, Coach Skirata feels that a good defenceman can play both sides and as such, Sato has been switched up to test the theory. One of the greatest back-skaters in the game, he has become a regular facet of the Ice Bisons' defence.

RD – 32– Pakku ITO
Height: 193cm - Weight: 108kg – Age: 30 years old – Hand: R - Team: Itakawai Lightning

The seasoned veteran of the Defensive line, Pakku Ito is returning to National Team with another Kuruk Cup under his belt. Awarded the Shield Trophy for the Most Valuable Defensive Player during The 2011.3 Playoffs, Ito has shown time and time again that the trade from The North has definitely played into his favour.

Great on the backskate and known for perfect poke-checking skills, Ito’s greatest strength is his ability to read the ice and predict the play with an uncanny certainty. He isn’t afraid of getting rough, which with his Mandalorian background, should come at no surprise. After three-peating the Kuruk Cup and repeating the Shield Trophy, Ito has continued to prove he is simply an invaluable asset to any team he is on.

LW – 08–Wad'e TAY'HAAI
Height: 183cm - Weight: 85kg – Age: 21 years old – Hand: R - Team: Keldabe State University

One of the star players of the World Junior Hockey Championships with two goals and six assists, Wad’e Tay’haai proved to be even more of an asset to the National team last World Cup after the Ngo Fiasco; following Ngo's fall from grace, Tay'haai was brought up to the first line where he flourished under the stars Hakoda Ishii and Kuruk Ikeda.

A very strong youthful skater, the fact that Tay’haai garnished a position on the first line is a testament to his strength. A powerful right-winger, his skill in the faceoff is impressive, having yet to lose a faceoff in his entire ACSA career. He is a strong player for someone his size; though he has put on three kilograms of weight since the last World Cup, he is still small when compared to his linesmen. However, with his graduation from KSU imminent, he will likely be undergoing a drastic transformation before the 2012.1 AHL Draft.

C – 04 – Hakoda ISHII – CAPTAIN
Height: 193cm - Weight: 93kg – Age: 26 years old – Hand: R - Team: Itakawai Lightning

The star forward of the six-time Kuruk Cup Champions, Hakoda Ishii returns to lead the Ice Bisons in yet another World Cup appearance. Scoring ten goals in WC XV and thre in WC XVI, Ishii has continued to mature through the 2011.3 Season; taking the lead in both Goals and Assists through the Season and then gaining the MVP of Playoffs.

A strong centre, Ishii is able to coordinate many a great highlight goal: With tremendous vision and terrific passing skills, he is the best two-way player in Gyatso-kai. Looking to do even better this time around, you can be sure that Ishii shall light the lamp at least once every game.
Rating: A - Team Relationship: A - Morale: A - Form: A – Skill: 0.982

RW – 09 – Kuruk IKEDA
Height: 191cm - Weight: 95kg – Age: 23 years old – Hand: L - Team: Omashu Badgermoles

Though the Badgermoles this season did not do well --- placing eighth in the League and falling in the Semifinals --- Kuruk Ikeda has continued to gain stock value in the AHL. Rumour has it that a trade is in the works, to pair up Ikeda with Ishii for a truly memorable 2012.1 season; however, this same rumour floated around before the last World Cup and nothing was ever seen...

A strong power forward, Ikeda is known for his smooth skating and his ability to snipe with the best in the league. Given his background with the Badgermoles, he has gained more skill in his passing department ; given his history of shooting first before waiting for a chance, this maturation will truly help the Ice Bisons.

LD – 18 – KO Piandao
Height: 188cm - Weight: 95kg – Age: 26 years old – Hand: R - Team: St-Fortunat Saints(CDP)

Incredibly accurate with his passing and known for his interception skills, Ko has seen some great development while he played in Cotdelapoms. His strength is still one of his greatest assets, an asset he is not afraid to use on the ice; known for putting more than his fair share of men into the boards, Ko garnishes at least two penalties a game for his roughness... Something he is proud of.

When asked to describe Ko, Coach Skirata compared him to his namesake, the dao --- or sword--- in that he teters on the edge of a finely-honed blade, and just a simple push will slice you in half: Ko is known to divide players with his impressive size and muscle pucks away from the foes before passing them off to an open player. While his shot power is weaker than most Lightning players, his accuracy is second only to three-time All-Star Shot Contest winner Hakoda Ishii.

RD – 05 – FENG Tao
Height: 183cm - Weight: 88kg – Age: 28 years old – Hand: L - Team: Île-d'Elisabeth Osprey(CDP)

Playing in the AHL for four years and the last two years in the CHL, Feng Tao has seen a very interesting year; while his years on the Badgermoles saw the team grow from nothing to notoriety, the year in Cotdelapoms for the Ospreys have given him just a little more of an edge. Feng is known for being a 'double threat", equally able to pull back and block any pass made by the opposition, only to turn that pass around and snipe a shot into goal.

While is backskating is impressive, Feng has struggled with the switch ever since a torn Achielles tendon weakened his right ankle last season: Many blame his less-than-stellar performance in the WCoH15 on that injury and he has continued the conditioning of that ankle to increase its strength, In addition, he heavily favours the foreshot, almost never taking a backhand to the puck and nearly always shoots from the right side of the ice: Though his style is predictable, the speed and finesse he gives the shot makes the end-result unpredictable.

The first assistant captain of the Makapu Flames last year became the First Assistant Captain of the Ice Bisons after his impressive showing during WCoH15, adding not only thirteen starting games to his resume, but an array of assists and goals throughout the tournament. In the time since WCoH XV, Ishida has been increasing his passing skills as well as strengthening his own backskating; while WCoH XVI was certainly not the best showing for the Ice Bisons, Ishida has worked hard in Cotdelapoms to put the disaster behind him.

A solid winger capable of playing both sides of the ice equally, Ishida's only weakness is his age; though he was drafted at 18 to the Flames, he has gained little experience in the more-offence-based Fire Division and, after two years in Cotdelapoms, his skill-set has begun to show a development, though many wonder how much it has.
Rating: B - Team Relationship: B - Morale: A - Form: B – Skill: 0.851
PLAYED in WCoH XV, WCoH XVI

C –21 –HEI Hayate
Height: 183cm - Weight: 95kg – Age: 26 years old – Hand: R - Team: Kyoshi Warriors

Playing last season under the twenty-third place Kyoshi Warriors, Hei Hayate has reached the end of his four-year contract with his hometown team. Where he will go is still up in the air, however, with the last-placed Wulong Panthers having traded their First Round pick to the Ramikade for the goaltender Illo’illo Yueng, it is almost certain he will join the ranks of those in Kyrimorut.

A very strong centre, much like his first-line counterpart, Hei is known for his strength at coordinating the forward line to execute many a great plays. With excellent vision and adequate stick handling, Hei has earned the respect of his team while maintaining the strength and form of players much younger than him.
Rating: B - Team Relationship: A - Morale: B - Form: B – Skill: 0.886
PLAYED in WCoH XV

RW – 26 – Walon VAU
Height: 182cm - Weight: 88kg – Age: 21 years old – Hand: R - Team: Keldabe State University

Starting out in WCoH XVI as a reserv player, Vau made great strides in his improvement and was placed into the second string offence. Since then, he has finished his final term at KSU and is set to be drafted by the Itakawai Lightning in the first round; while this is unsettling to him, Vau recognises that he cannot always play on the same side as Tay'haai or Skirata forever.

Given his strong backhanded shots, Vau is known for his trademark backward's skating goals at KSU; sending a puck on his left side while skating backwards at the last minute. A little childish in Skirata's opinion, but none the less, it garnishes the support of the fans who always enjoy a little showmanship.

LD – 91– IWAI Itsuki
Height: 188cm - Weight: 96kg – Age: 28 years old – Hand: L - Team: Kyoshi Warriors

A massive man on the ice, Iwai Itsuki has earned the nickname “The Unagi” after the legendary sea monsters who live around Kyoshi Island. Fast and a hard-hitter, Iwai knows how to use his size to usher an opponent into the boards with little to no chance of their ‘survival’.

With a lack-luster style of passing, Iwai must rely on his right defensive partner to get the rock from opponents while he muscles them out of possession. His shooting skills are weak, however, the speed and agility he possess make up for the lack in offensive skills.

PLAYED in WCoH XV, WCoH XVI

RD – 25 – JIANG Tujing
Height: 193cm - Weight: 99kg – Age: 20 years old – Hand: L - Team: Saigon City College

Having grown nearly five centimetres and gaining three kilograms since his WJHC3 premiere, Jiang Tujing is becoming an impressively sized defenceman. While many at the WJHC saw a great player in the making, Coach Skirata saw a player in need of work. “Much like a sword”, spoke Skirata at last week’s Meet The Team Press Conference, “Jiang needs to be sharpened and honed to a sharp point. I see in him much that I saw in (Ito Pakku) many years ago… and hopefully he can come to age much the same.”

With his size, one would expect such a player to be a physical beast with little else to go for him. Instead, what you get with Jiang is a defenceman whose speed rivals the best centres, whose accuracy rivals the best snipers and whose vision is almost unmatched. However, as Skirata said, he needs work until he becomes a viable option on the first line. Thankfully for some, it will be at least another season before Jiang is set to enter the AHL Draft, predicted to be entering the Draft in 2012.2.

LW – 28 – KIMA Yagone
Height: 196cm - Weight: 102kg – Age: 30 years old – Hand: L - Team: Republic Capitals

Kima Yagone is a puzzle in and of himself; with the body of a defenceman, one would expect to see Kima shoving players into the boards and checking his way to victory. Instead, we see Kima skating around the net, poking pucks through the nets with effortless ability. His speed is unmatched on the third line and his handling skills is on par with the best of his team.

However, for a player of his age, he has been passed between five different teams in four years and has yet to settle in age. Instead, his maturity off the ice is lacking as is his ‘control’. Skirata wil have a hard time reigning in Kima’s mouth and attitude this Championship. Add to this the change from right to left, and Skirata is set to have his hands full of Kima.
Rating: B - Team Relationship: B - Morale: C - Form: A – Skill: 0.95
PLAYED in WCoH XV, WCoH XVI

C – 33 – TORU Akiak
Height: 185cm - Weight: 92kg – Age: 24 years old – Hand: R - Team: Republic Capitals

Having worked his way up the line in Republic Centre as he gained the Second Assistant Captain position following the injury of Olof Kolosji, Toru Akiak continues to better his game. However, with such developments small in contrast to those of the younger players, he has yet to shine any brighter; what he needs is a great defining moment, one in which he can show Skirata that he is meant to be a star player.

Being able to do everything well, but nothing great is something which is bothersome to many a coachers; for a player who was drafted two years and has been on two teams in a single year, the gift that Coach Antinanco gave him in the place of 2nd Ass.Captain was in the hopes of giving him a solid future as a Captain; after two seasons without a Captain, many on the Caps fan base want to see a new star rise from the ashes of Shu's departure.
Rating: B - Team Relationship: B - Morale: B - Form: A – Skill: 0.842
PLAYED in WCoH XV, WCoH XVI

RW– 44 – Kal SKIRATA
Height: 188cm - Weight: 86kg – Age: 19 years old – Hand: L - Team: Keldabe State University

As was the case in the Junior Men's Hockey Championships, the young Kal Skirata has garnished a position on the same national team as his father, the Head Coach. This is something of a rare event in the AHL as players chosen for the National Team are not selected by the National Team Head Coach, but rather by a selection committee of every Head Coach in the AHL; of course, with Kad'buir as the Head Coach of the Itakawai Lightning, it is almost certain he placed a lead vote...

A natural talent, Skirata's skill comes as no surprise, given the history of the Skirata Clan in the Avatarian Sports. However, while the skill Skirata possesses is valued, his experience in international play is low, which is reflected in his nerves as he skates on the ice. Quick to act and slow to think, Kad'buir hopes to break his son of this habit in the weeks leading to the World Cup. He is a strong forward skater, with impressive vision capable of seeing the entire ice and analysing threats; however, Skirata will need to settle into the ice before he jumps up the roster.

Of note to the Reserve List is the placement of former-first line starter and high scoring Ngo Du. While many were surprised he was even chosen for the team, it didn't take anyone by shock that he was placed into reserves. Last year during WCoH XVI, Ngo was the instigator in a locker room brawl between Ishii and Ikeda in which racial slurs were thrown and Ngo was knocked unconscious by the larger Mandalorian players. In response, Skirata barred him from the bench and left Ngo sitting in the locker room of every game, dressed. It is unknown of if he may redeem himself this year, or if this will be the last we see of the once-starred player.

Frankly, nobody quite knows how head coach Guy Lemaire has managed to keep his job for World Cup 17, but the pressure is way up on him to get to the finals- and it's serious. Nothing short of that will be enough to keep Lemaire's job, which means he will be pushing his new young core very, very, hard. Phenom Maxime O'Bagels has been named to this team, which will be this year's controversy (remember the Benoît Cohen situation?) but people are generally optimistic that he will be a contributor considering his excellent camp.

Goalie: Robot Santa (Futurama)- Psychotic arbiter of who's naughty and who's nice. Here's a hint: No one's nice.
Defense: Metal Sonic (Sonic the Hedgehog) and Cameron (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) - An evil robotic version of Sonic, who's hellbent on getting the Chaos Emeralds for himself he's just as fast and is nigh invulnerable. Cameron's a terminator from the future, reprogrammed to protect John Connor at all costs, but we tweaked her a bit to recognize our goal as John Connor. Good luck getting past these two.
Left Wing: Optimus Prime (Transformers)- The heroic leader of the Autobots. If you don't know who he is... you need to geek out more.
Center: General Grievous (Star Wars Universe)- Leader of the Droid Armies for the Separatists. Luckily for us there's no rules as to how many sticks a person can have on the ice at one time.
Right Wing: Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Voyager)- We got her before they wimpifed her by trying to make her human. Her only goal now is to assimulate the puck from the opponents and add the puck to our collective goals scored.

Not that we'll need them, seeing as Robots don't tire, but just in case, here's our reserves:

Once again Mossulia have half blindly entered the World cup of hockey, in some vague hope that they will get past the play-offs. Unlikely. Mossulia don't have a good track record when it comes to the world cup of hockey. In their first world cup of hockey (13th edition) they didn't make it out of the group stage; in WCoH 14 they got into the play-ins and lost out to Newmenistan; WCoH 15. Wait, it turns out they made it to the quarter-finals... that's new; WCoH 16, ah yes. Knocked out in the group stage as ever. Now of course they enter in the 17th addition of this tournament, and not really a hope of victory. Mossulia are going into this tournament in competition with Kazzoria, bitter rivals.

Kazzoria are hated in Mossulia, why? Well probably something to do with the 6 month war and their invasion of our territory. Or possibly something to do with the constant spying on each other and killing ctizens. That and we stole their statue of father Kazzoria. So prehaps if we meet it could cause some crowd tension. The last time we played in sports agaunst Kazzoria they killed six Mossulians while we shouted offensive songs at them.

Dr Fruitystein

HELLO! What do you mean how the hell did this guy get print space? Well they needed some filler so they called me in. Basically I know nothing about ice hockey, but it has always appealed to me. Nothing is more entertaining to watch then men who are either padded up or covered in padding beating each other to pieces. To be honest I'm not even sure if they should bother with the whole puck business, just men fighting to the death ON ICE! Maybe not though because then I would have to talk to people, I don't have connections. To be honest I spend most of my time in a dark room gaining degrees with online mail order universities. I mean look at these degrees!: Sports analysis, Hedgehogry, Advanced Hedgehogry (Post-grad), Disecting lizards, Marmalade studies, History of 2200, hedgehogry statistics, Marmalade studies extended and theology for idiots.

So yes I'm not really qualified, however I do like Ice hockey which was good enough for my German turn Geography teacher (however he didn't like Geography, just volcanoes). So now I must make a prediction for how likely it is for Mossulia to win. Now if my calculations are correct on team spirit, current team strength and past performance then Mossulia have one in 1,576 to the power 652 chance. Now that may be slim, but it is probably much worse than we expect.

Another WCoH is here and Camwood is in it to go all the way! After progression through two previous World Cups, and a regional tourney the Camians are ranked twentieth in the world. The coaching staff has been revised and the Head Coach Gerald Santy from the New Athens Warriors has been named head coach. Also, release of pentaly kill, and power play units are being released for the first time. It look to be a good WCoH for Camwood.

John Moncrief countinues to be the face of hockey in Camwood. He has lead the Cam.H.L in scoring the past two seasons and has been in the top three for points in three out of three total Cam.H.L seasons. Left Defenseman Johnny Lefevre has a goals against average of 0.8 during international play. And last but not least lil' Bobby Jesse uses his flexibility to stop 20+ shots a game. His save percentage internationally is 83.2%.

Bostopia are in to play iced-hockey. A roster will be posted as soon as we can find enough people who can stay upright on the ice, much less play the sport also.

Valanora Announces Group Draws! Gyatso-kai Gets Lucky!

From the Republic Associated Times, 2011.3.12.14

After a solid week of practices in the aptly-named Blessed Realms of Valanora, the Ice Bisons today were greeted with the announcement of Group Bids by Host Nation Valanora around 16:12 local time.

The Ice Bisons seemed to have been blessed by the Spirits as the stages set for their group -- Group H -- are proving to look quite positive. With only two nations in the group having faced Gyatso-kai before, it is sure to be a great spectacle! With the likes of Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuk, Wolfmanne and the she-beasts of Cassadaigua rounding out the group, it will certainly be a series worth watching.

For some of the younger players on the national team, this is set to be their second World Cup and already, the news media are buzzing around the powerhouses of the World Junior Hockey Championship 3 Second-Place team members. With Sato Sorua joining the second defensive line , it should come as no surprise to anyone that the man who made three assist in the WJHC has returned to the National Team on the eve of his University Graduation; a degree in business management sits atop his mantle, and with the scouts of the Avatarian Hockey League already stationed in Valanora, his play is sure to be under constant critique.

In addition to Sato, for the first time since the WJHC, the three-man star line-up of the U-21 Bisons shall be playing on the National Team; though to the dismay of the fans, they are not on the same lines. With Wad'e Tay'haai returning to the first line as right-wing, we can be certain that his ever-present youthful agility will greatly compliment the commanding presence of Hakoda Ishii as well as the strength of Kuruk Ikeda. When asked earlier this week about his position on the first line, Tay'haai had this to say:

It is just simply an honour to even be on the same team as (Ishii and Ikeda). Growing up watching them on the ice, watching Hakoda hoist the cup seven times... and now, I am actually skating with them? It is unbelievable!"

Along with Tay'haai, comes venerable junior-right-wing Walon Vau, who is now surprisingly playing on the second line after last cup's debacle with Ngo Du led to his promotion from Reserve status. Gaining both height and weight since his last appearance, Vau has continued to develop his superior accuracy and power following a terrific season at Keldabe State University in which the Keldabe State Strills went undefeated in the regular season, only to lose to University of the Northern Tribes in the Frozen Collegiate Championships Finals.

The newest addition to the National Team is the up-and-coming star centre Kal Skirata. Son of Head Coach Kad Skirata, Kal is best known for his impressive eleven goals in the WJHC as well as his impressive seasons alongside Tay'haai and Vau at KSU. Not only has he gotten faster on the fly since his last international appearance, but he has increased his strength significantly and his endurance is soon to be on par with the most disciplined of professionals.

Regardless of the outcomes of the various games the Ice Bisons will be playing, one thing can be certain; that they will give everything they have to seek the victory and, if victory is unobtainable, they will certainly go down fighting.

The THRILLEDGE Dreadlocks return to international hockey play looking to score a little more than the weak three goals scored in the World Cup of Hockey 16. With some youth added to the team and some veteran leadership, Thrilledge looks to come out on top. Thrilldge plays its home games in Dreadlock Arena in the Heart of Blastings City, Thrilledge.

Lines

Forward Line 1
C: Blastings Thrilledge (C)
RW: Casey Bryant (A)
LW: Matt Bryant
Line 1 returns unchanged, led by the Captain Blastings Thrilledge. Thrilledge and the Bryant brothers look to put on an offensive show this World Cup as Thrilledge’s offense was nowhere to be found last World Cup.

Forward Line 2
C: Patrick Finn
RW: Gunner Smalls (debut)
LW: Jefferson Swarley
Line 2 has two familiar faces but includes highly touted prospect Gunner Smalls a new face on this Thrilledge team. He looks to add to not only the scoring but the physicality of the team.

Forward Line 3
C: Trevor Fitzgerald
RW: Dwayne Asselmeyer (debut)
LW: Sibby Hanson
Sharpshooter Sibby Hanson leads this third line backed by the veteran Fitzgerald and the newcomer Asselmeyer. Looking to put some points up on the board, don’t be surprised if head coach Matthew Haering turns to Line 3 for that desperate goal.

Forward Line 4
C: Cas Robertallia (debut)
RW: Corey Sampson
LW: Slava Skranfe (debut)
Line 4 is a roughhousing group of skaters that Haering has on his bench. Need a momentum swing? Rookie Slava Skranfe will knock a guy or two to the ice.

Defense Line 1
D: Jack Marlboro
D: Lance Corzdale (debut)
This defense led by Jack Marlboro really stepped it up last World Cup and ept Thrilledge is most of the games. Hitting hard and blocking shots; they got it done.

Defense Line 2
D: Henry Gustavino (debut)
D: Chris Koni (A)
Line 2 is an offensive pair featuring Chris Koni who has a slap shot deadly accurate from the point, not to mention he has some velocity too.

Defense Line 3
D: Shawn Swank
D: Bubba Bass (debut)
Known as the “Line of Alliteration”, Line 3 features newcomer Bubba Bass who isn’t afraid to block some shots and hit people hard.

Goalies
1: Cory Greenspan (Starter)
2 Grover Chauncey
Anchored by star Cory (CoGreen) Greenspan, this goaltending core is a strong one. Greenspan only allowed four goals the entire World Cup of Hockey 16 and looks to keep up the good play.
