Mapletish drawn into Group H

Group H

1. Octinstine
2. Homelands Our
3. Mangolana
4. Mapletish
5. Rhodesiah

After all this discussions Mapletish is in this 5 team group with a do or die group team.Mapletish will be able to defeat Homelands Our on the encounter and it is an extreme sure affair that Mapletish will be able to take on.Homelands Our is considered as an underdog and it will be the team to defeat.Mapletish will also face the likes of Mangolana,Rhodesiah and Octinstine in this group. It would be considered as a do or die group as Mapletish will be expecting a tough challenge from Octinstine and Mangolana which will leave Mapletish with Homelands Our and Rhodesiah to take home the 6 points from.If possible 1 point can be taken from Octinstine and it is well made sure that Mapletish will have particularly no chance in squeezing a point out of Mangolana with the current squad that is filled with inexperience players.Del Diego will have a lot of pressure mounted on him as he captained Mapletish against Mangolana in the first match,a mouthwatering fixture.Yannis Spiridon was put at a high expectation to at least get past the group stage and win or lose at the round of 16 does not matter much. What can Yannis do without the senior team members in the squad, this will show the Maplish fans what the future of Mapletish is capable of doing.I think we shouldn't go hard on our young lads, since they are a team without any experience, what's the point in demanding high expectations from this young boys.I hope Sir Platini does not have a screw lose up there but I think their expectation for this CoH is to at least win 2 matches and that's all. That will seem more realistic for me and the team I hope as this young lads have zero international caps to their names and Del Diego only has got 3 international caps to his name, what can this young captain,if you ask me the Mapletish team is heading for the dead end, what's the point in such a young team,at least add in some senior members such as Junio or Morrison , or at least put in Oliver Kahner or Travis Hard , or put in Steven Johnson , Maro or Glena Johnson. This seems so wrong with all this young players with the only recognizable face being Del Deigo's one,one point that I can see in this squad is that,it is going to be a huge downhill turn and I seriously hope that the squad make use of the bye-day to get at least some tactical training.Without at least a Muain Newtons to motivate the squad,it is going to seem hard for Mapletish to go on.

Responses

David Robinson wrote: I seriously hope that the current Cup Of Harmony 49 squad that Mapletish is sending doesn't go haywire against Mangolana,it seems to me that Mapletish will be facing a dead end this time without their top senior players that put up quite a show in the World Cup Qualifying matches. It might seem ridiculous to expect such things from the young squad but I think it helps to fire up their spirits.AS everybody is concerned about,it takes time for the future of Mapletish to start moving forward. And to start getting the momentum, which many would wish that coming from the young squad that Mapletish is sending.

Alero Junio [Mapletish International] wrote:I am not disappointed that I'm left out from the squad but the thing that I am more or less disappointed is about how the players are chosen,if you want a young squad at the very least choose those faces that are recognizable.I pity with Del Diego, being put in such a difficult situation being the captain of such a young and inexperienced squad, from what I can see if Mapletish can manage at least 2 wins,it is more or less expectation fulfilled.

Hector: What!?! NO!

Paris: Calm down brother. It could be worse. What if we got Darmen, Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuk or Sargossa from pool 3? So what if we got Kazzoria. Just means we won't play them till the final. We have got a relatively easy group, assuming we don't have any slip ups like against Nitrome Island. We should well be able to beat Cyborg Holland and New Montreal States.

Hector: That's not what I'm worried about look. Andossa Se Mitrin Vega could be playing us in the knock-outs. How will we ever survive that!?!

Paris: Let me see that paper. Well there's 9 groups so I think it will be a draw to select who plays who. Also 9x2=18 so I think the 2 worst performing second places will not qualify. Keeping that in mind we could play either, hang on just give me a pen to work this out. There. We could play any of these teams if they decide the games by a draw.

Group A (Montréal)

1. Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuk
2. Pasarga 1st
3. Bleak Rock
4. Silver Beach
5. Triimoria

Group B (Île d'Elisabeth)

1. Brendino the 3rd
2. FSSO
3. Carasatoga
4. Vilita
5. Erathore 1st

Group C (Albionpool)

1. Michael VII
2. Cyborg Holland
3. Kazzoria 1st
4. New Montreal States
5. The Kiaser Colonies

Group D (Outremont)

1. Miley World
2. Andossa Se Mitrin Vega 1st
3. Milchama
4. The Weegies
5. Kytler Peninsulae

Group E (Worcester)

1. Arcatea
2. Valladares 1st
3. Carmadin
4. Taeshan
5. Darmen

Group F

1. Nicole Scherzinger
2. Western Cuba
3. Eastfield Lodge 1st?
4. Ipeland
5. Civil Citizenry 1st?

Group G

1. Sargossa
2. Osarius 1st
3. Saugeais
4. Megadia
5. Rouge Pioneers

Group H

1. Octinstine
2. Homelands Our
3. Mangolana 1st
4. Mapletish
5. Rhodesiah

Group I

1. Thatius
2. Kalumba
3. Jedi8246
4. North Chicanan 1st
5. Gyatso-kai

Pasarga
Andossa Se Mitrin Vega
North Chicanan
Valladares
Erathore
Osarius
Civil Citizenry
Mangolana
Eastfield Lodge

Hector: But they're all so strong! WE'RE DOOMED!

Paris: Why does that concern you? We are not prioritizing a win, we just want to get out of the groups at least. For the first time.

Hector: Well I can't help it. I have high expectations after the qualifiers.

Paris: Really? You're kidding. We didn't do that well. We messed up so many games we should have won. Example, if we beat Nitrome Island we would almost have made it and if we avoided another screw up we would have made it. This team hasn't got what it takes to win big.

Hector: Oh yeah. Well if you're so sure lets put some money on it. 2,000 Colony Dollars The Kiaser Colonies will win the Cup of Harmony.

Paris: Well I would be stupid not to take an easy 2 grand. Deal. You will regret this.

CoH Group Draw reaction

Yes, it's more international football once again. After a quite disappointing first World Cup campaign, Ipeland were invited to the Cup of Harmony 49, an "after tournament" for the non-qualifiers. A slightly changed team and a new kit were announced last week, which many people took favor to. Yesterday, it was the Group Draw, here are the results:

Group F (Polar Islandstates)

1. Nicole Scherzinger
2. Western Cuba
3. Eastfield Lodge
4. Ipeland
5. Civil Citizenry

Ipeland are receiving a bye on Matchday 2. Here's how the schedule looks:

Schedule
MD1: Eastfield Lodge v Ipeland Prediction: 2-0
MD2: BYE
MD3: Ipeland v Civil Citizenry Prediction: 0-1
MD4: Nicole Scherzinger v Ipeland Prediction: 2-2
MD5: Ipeland v Western Cuba Prediction: 1-0

As you can see by the predictions, Ipeland aren't expected to do that well. Eastfield Lodge and Civil Citizenry will probably go through, leaving the rest to scrap it out for 3rd. We will probably get 4 points.

"It's too fuckin' cold here bru."

"Aye."

The banter was relatively calm as the Rhodesiah Sables filed off the plane in St. Paul, Polar Island States. Mosey Van Buuren and Chum Ochse were muttering to themselves on the tarmac waiting for the team bus to pick them up. Casually passing a flask of what might've been whiskey, they exchanged words about the climate and future games.

Mosey: "Seriously bru. The ball will be hard as a fuckin' rock in this temperature."

Chum: "You think you're worried about the ball?!? What about the fact we won't have any digits by the end of the Cup of Harmony because of frostbite?"

Mosey: "At least I have gloves. Right right. So this stadium we're playing the opener against... some kind of Miller time?"

Chum: "Millerntor Arena. Over 41,000 capacity. Fuck me that's a lot of people."

Mosey: "Bigger than anywhere in Rhodesiah. I'm rather chuffed about playing there. The cold will be a change from temperate climate back home eh?"

Chum: "This is kak. This country is kak. This weather is kak. Everything here is kak. We were fucked by some shady refereeing for the qualifiers and now we're trying not to freeze our khappies off. What about this will you be chuffed about?"

Mosey: "The different alcohol for one! That piss... whatzit... Grogg! We can always get shammered off that eh? Seasogs? We'll show these polar socialists how we drink down in Rhodesiah!"

Chum: "You know you're really starting to get on my nerves bru. Give me another belt off that flask."

Mosey: "There is one upside of being in this icebox. We open our tournament against Homelands our."

Chum: "You mean Our Homelands?"

Mosey: "No. Homelands our. It's a really fucked up name. Should be a win I hope eh?"

Chum: "Sure sure. Let's go get some seasogs and pass out at the hotel"

Sea Dragons Find Tough Group

Mace: Yo, VIP, let's kick it!

Jonasei: Anyone else see the group we got for the CoH? Gonna be a bitch to win.

Laia: They always are, but your right, this one is really tough.

Kymy: The Kytler Peninsulae is up first. Those guys are scrappy on the pitch

Mace: All right stop
Collaborate and listen
Ice is back with my brand new invention

Kylek: The Weegies? Blast from the past. Milchama? Solid never-get-there side.

Ombar: and Miley World. Too damn happy, they are. Gonna have to knock the happy out

Fekelii: TKP poses the first threat. Let’s concentrate on that.

Mace: Something grabs a hold of me tightly
Then I flow that a harpoon daily and nightly

Jonasei: Damn Mace. Why does he choose to do songs like this? Makes my head hurt.

Akaok: We love this song in Zirakul

Ombar: You would. Then again you also wear a grass skirt. Just sayin

Mace: Will it ever stop?
Yo, I don't know
Turn off the lights and I'll glow
To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle

Kymy: This is a classic song.

Kylek: Classic trash.

Akaok: yeah I wear a grass skirt. And no underwear. What is your point?

Mace: Dance
Bum rush the speaker that booms
I'm killin' your brain like a poisonous mushroom
Deadly, when I play a dope melody
Anything less that the best is a felony

Fekelii: That’s just gross.

Jonasei: It is gonna be so nice to hoist that championship trophy for our nation again

Kylek: Some of us can lift it higher than others.

Mace: Love it or leave it
You better gain way
You better hit bull's eye
The kid don't play
If there was a problem
Yo, I'll solve it
Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it

Ombar: Is that a short joke? I got your short joke, human.

Kymy: I bet you do, Dwarf

Ombar: Bite me. Anyone know what to expect from TKP?

Mace:Ice ice baby Vanilla
Ice ice baby Vanilla
Ice ice baby Vanilla
Ice ice baby Vanilla

Kylek: They are a solid squad that plays hard. No official roster though.

Jonasei: Are they another of those sides that just lets you know numbers and no names?

Kymy: Not sure, havent followed them that closely.

Mace: Now that the party is jumping
With the bass kicked in, the Vegas are pumpin'
Quick to the point, to the point no faking
I'm cooking MC's like a pound of bacon

Fekelii: Let’s just force them to play our style. That worked against everyone but the unamed, unheard from side from The Allumanic States during qualifying.

Jonasei: Still not sure how we lost to a bunch of literal nobodies

Ombar: Didn’t hit ‘em hard enough. Wont make that mistake again

Mace: Burning them if they're not quick and nimble
I go crazy when I hear a cymbal
And a hi hat with a souped up tempo
I'm on a roll and it's time to go solo

Kylek: They havent had the pleasure of our hard-hitting style this time out. Time to introduce ourselves.

Laia: I am in for some of that. Need to let them know it will be painful to try to score

Akaok: Statement time.

Mace: Rollin in my 5.0
With my ragtop down so my hair can blow
The girlies on standby
Waving just to say hi
Did you stop?
No, I just drove by
Kept on pursuing to the next stop
I busted a left and I'm heading to the next block
That block was dead

Jonasei: Kind of hard to be a badass when our coach is singing Vanilla Ice.

Kymy: Anyone who thinks that way never played against Mace.

Laia: He did love to crush people

Mace: Yo so I continued to a1a Beachfront Ave
Girls were hot wearing less than bikinis
Rock man lovers driving Lamborghini
Jealous 'cause I'm out getting mine
Shay with a gauge and Vanilla with a nine

Fekelii: You really don’t wear underwear under that skirt? Doesn’t that itch?

Akaok: You get used to it after a while. Baby powder is a wonderful thing.

Ombar: You would need baby powder, Wuss.

Mace: Ready for the chumps on the wall
The chumps are acting ill because they're so full of eight balls
Gunshots ranged out like a bell
I grabbed my nine
All I heard were shells

Jonasei: Ok gotta get going. Practice comes early and this song is killing me.

Akaok: At least we know that Mace loves his karaoke

Kymy: Too much sometimes. See y’all in the morning.

Mace: Fallin' on the concrete real fast
Jumped in my car, slammed on the gas
Bumper to bumper the avenue's packed
I'm tryin' to get away before …

Cup Of Harmony Whateveritis

The Sargossa Corsairs

Kit
Courtesy of ediraf

Coach

Francisco Martinez
Former national team boss of his native Starblaydia, renowned throughout Rushmore following his great successes as player and coach in Nethertopia. More so after leading the Corsairs to a Copa Rushmori triumph.

Staff

Jésus Vazquez, Mario Quiñónez & Ernesto Fariás
A triumvirate of former internationals appointed to assist the new boss. Vazquez is a former midfield star currently on the coaching staff at Clube Comercial in Cafundéu. Fariás rattled in 65 goals for the national side, this is his first coaching appointment. Quiñónez is occasional Under-21 Boss.

Talent
Style Modifier = +1
Formation 4-2-3-1
.

GK: 1. José Antonio Leiva (27) - Alianza Jucaro
Big, imposing shot stopper who played a key part in his club side keeping the SuperLiga's meanest defence last season.

DR: 2. Toni Siqueira (22) - Ciudad Soluca
Gallivanting right sided fallback with pace to burn and technique that comes from being half Cafundelense.
DRC: 5. Víctor Monzón (35) - Ciudad Soluca
A rare survivor from the last Sargossa squad. Then he was a fresh faced young defender. Now 'Big Vic' is the experienced leader of the squad and the obvious choice for captain.
DLC: 6. Javi Aguilar (29) - Royal Vosaroni Antenelli (Erathore)
Centreback with the silky ball skills of a Pocoan masseuse. Has plenty of pace which could be crucial when partnered with the aging Monzón.
DL: 3. Mariano Mansilla (26) - Pythons (Queer Poco el Mono Ara)
The boy from the barrios has made good and become a popular figure with the San Marquez faithful.

MC: 4. Lucas Cáceres (28) - El Nacional
There's nothing too showy about Lucas. He's happy to shield the back four all day long. Some might label him a one trick pony. El Nacional label him as vital.
MC: 8. Luís Ángel Landín (27) - Alianza Jucaro
Neat and tidy midfield player who's played a key part in Alianza's Copa Sargossa win last season. Looking forward to showing off his skills to the wider range in the next Unity League.

AMR: 7. Andrés Guerrón (24) - Chastings Heights (Civil Citizenry)
Right sided winger with pace that could put Olympic medallists to shame. If his delivery was as good he'd be world class.
AMC: 10. Matías Montiel (21) - Ciudad Soluca
Scored 42 goals last season. Forty. Two. Admittedly they were in some noddy regional league but that didn't stop giants Ciudad snapping him up. Impressed at the last DBC.
AML: 11. Alejandro Echeverría (22) - Ciudad Soluca
This boy's a bit special and we're not talking in the crash helmet and crayons sense. Stick him anywhere in the attacking third and he can make something happen. Ciudad reportedly spent silly money to bring him in from Daroca Marinos.

FC: 9. Celso Esquivel (25) - Royal Vosaroni Antenelli (Erathore)
A penalty area predator who led the goalscoring charts last year despite turning out for the modest Marinos. Recently left the Estadio Bolero to try his feet in Erathore.

GK: 13. Raúl Navas (33) - Dunas Del Sol
DRC: 12. Miguel Bonilla (33) - El Nacional
DC: 22. Bruno Trejo (22) - Deportivo Cordova
DLC: 17. Raúl Salas (28) - Dínamo Maturín
D/ML: 19. Rubén Rochina (21) - El Nacional
MC: 15. Rubén Barrios (26) - Porto Alegro Azul
MRC: 16. Iván Albacar (32) - Alianza Jucaro
AMR: 20. Sergio Tejera (20) - Dínamo Maturín
AMLC: 14. Rubén Cuéllar (27) - Ciudad Soluca
FC: 18. Héctor Riera (29) - Ciudad Soluca
FC: 21. Iván Marcano (21) - Porto Alegro Azul

Cisco's Last Hurrah

After five decades or so in the business Francisco Martinez, the Starblaydi coach of Sargossa, looks set to bring the curtain down after one last tournament. Martinez, whose contract expires next month, met with Football Federation chief Enrique Santana after the world cup qualifiers to confirm that he wouldn't be seeking an extension to his current deal. Making this tournament his last in the big blue chair before a probable return to his homeland.

For this tournament the squad looks suspiciously like the one used in the qualifiers in which the Corsairs achieved their pre-competition target of fourth place in a tough group. Now they face a trip t'up north to a nation with whom Sargossa has, in the past, maintained relations almost as chilly as the Polarian winter. A chill factor stemming from a territorial dispute over the island of Kulmsaar which the Polarian's nabbed before we did. But as troubles brew down south the desire to keep the Polar Islandstates, an important trading partner, on side has seen a thawing in the Delgado regime's attitude towards its neighbour to the north. Which is nice.

And it's into a reasonable looking Group G that the Corsairs' find themselves, in which the Rushmori derby with Saugeais should prove a highlight. Although the more militant members of the travelling fans were crushed when Sargossa weren't paired with Valladares after a public spat between a journalist and José Marín, the Sargossan national coach of Valladares during the world cup qualifiers. Marín's side had started like a train and looked a good bet for the finals in Cafundéu and Sarzonia before a heavy defeat in Soluca allowed the chasing pack to narrow the gap. Marín reacted angrily to a press report questioning his side's qualification chances, believing they'd still comfortably qualifier despite the loss. They didn't.

Ok a win is needed
As underdogs what are the odds
CoH Day 1

As well the draw yesterday the match day list was found out.

Matchday 1
Homelands Our v Rhodesiah - Millerntor Arena - 41,592 (St Paul)
Mangolana v Mapletish - Axel Torvig Park - 25,195 (Axel Heiburg)
Matchday 2
Rhodesiah v Mangolana - The Barge - 32,340 (Bjarnarey)
Octinstine v Homelands Our - Victoria Stadium - 51,293 (Jan Mayen)
Matchday 3
Mangolana v Octinstine - Victoria Stadium - 51,293 (Jan Mayen)
Mapletish v Rhodesiah - Nasjonale Stadion - 67,481(Franz Josef City)
Matchday 4
Octinstine v Mapletish - Millerntor Arena - 41,592 (St Paul)
Homelands Our v Mangolana - Landstadt Stadion - 54,195 (Franz Josef City)
Matchday 5
Mapletish v Homelands Our - Carravale - 41,734 (Severny)
Rhodesiah v Octinstine - Taugen Park - 28,291 (Torshavn)

Ok so the above states that Rhodesiah will be the first team to give us a right royal thumping at CoH49. Let's find out more about

Rhodesiah

Ok the formation

- de Melker

Pienaar van Rooyen Prinsloo van Jaarsveld

Ochse van der Merwe van der Ryst de Nysschen

- van Zyl van Broekhuizen

A pretty standard 4-4-2 there. Ochse will be making all the scoring runs from the right-wing and as proved before is the most skilled player Rhodesiah has is this 11. De Melker is one of the few keepers that has been shown to be the best. If he alone was to take on the whole HOFLS he could keep us out for at least 15mins. Only if I could go to Rhodesiah's hotel and break his leg, then the doors would have a better chance. Prinsloo a central defender is also in the league of the best. He is ûń ñàtïáł in hari but recently dislocated his hip in training and therefore cannot play in the match today, could that see a different formation for Rhodesiah, only the manager can say. But just look at it like this we are the underdog and let's go barking mad in the Millerntor Arena.

Hey, look a name

It is a name a sponsorship fit the national team for one (1) round of the world cup, it is going to give the HOFF surplus funding the amount is rumoured be be about H$ 3,000,000. This will give the doors hope for WC 58.

Odds

Homelands Our 14-1
Draw 20-1
Rhodesiah 10-1

BLUE/BET's odds at 11:00am harloop time.

Miley World Daily Mail

Group draw was made

Yesterday the host nations of the Cup of Harmony announced the group draw. Miley World has been placed in the group D and will play their games in Outremont, Cotdelapoms. We don't know much about Outremont, but we recently heard that So Undercover, a movie starring Miley Cyrus and Jeremy Piven, will be shown at the Outremont International Film Festival. Here is the nations competing in the group D (best listed first, not in seed order):

Andossa Se Mitrin Vega
Milchama
The Kytler Peninsulae
Miley World
The Weegies

We asked our american football expert Rico Suave Jr (who is also a soccer expert) to analyse this group:

"Well I think it will be a walk in the park for Andossa Se Mitrin Vega they don't have a lot of competions. They'll win this group for sure. Then Miley World could upset and finish 2nd ahead of Milchama and The Kytler Peninsulae."

Here is Miley World's schedule:

Matchday 1: Bye
Matchday 2: Miley World vs Andossa Se Mitrin Vega
Matchday 3: Milchama vs Miley World
Matchday 4: Miley World vs The Weegies
Matchday 5: Kytler Peninsulae vs Miley World

All games will be played at the Stade Rousseau which seats 54,500 spectators.

Rico Suave Jr's predictions: Hmm I think Miley World will lose against Andossa Se Mitrin Vega but will win against Milchama and Weegies and have a draw against Kytler Peninsulae . The Untamed Robots will finish 2nd in the group with a 2-1-1 record.

OOC: I was doing this kinda in a hurry, then I realise I have a bye on matchday 1. :p

"Paul! Paul pass!" Chad Parsons watched on as his FSSO teamate Paul Fessner struck the ball firmly into the bottom corner of the training net. "I was open, man!"
"No, Julesk was behind you. Let's keep trying, you've got to find space next time." Chad's domestic form may have been stellar in his first Gold League season but he was still young and getting used to the unforgiving world of international football. Paul may have only got his first caps in the previous world cup, but he had trained with the international squad as a backup many times. Of course, this dosen't mean it wasn't a great experience - Chad loved being part of the team and would have a chance to play at the Cup of Harmony, that he hadn't really been given at the World Cup.

Cotdelaploms was the coldest place Chad had ever been to. There were colder areas in parts of the FSSO but he lived near Mayville, inland in the warmer areas of the country. Certainly though this country was a beautiful one, with rolling, uneven countryside which was largely difficult to build on and so preserved naturally quite effectively. He was also sleeping quite well - Mayville is an industrial centre in FSSO, and a haze of noise and orange light usually pours over into the surrounding areas during the night. The FSSO team however were staying at a training facility in a more rural area. It was cool, there was a layer of frost on the ground and no noise of the mega industry that swells up the northeastern industrial heartland of the FSSO. There wasn't much civilisation about in close range of the training camp, except for a nearby town which was home to the more cultured northern populace, but out to see was the island of Île d'Elisabeth
and its similarly named city, where the FSSO would play their group games.

The first game would be against Erathore. The FSSO has a warm rivalry with Erathore so Parsons wasn't expecting to be picked ahead of Sharp and Needle, but he had his hopes.

Arcatea Drawn into Group E

Group E
1. Arcatea
2. Valladares
3. Carmadin
4. Taeshan
5. Darmen

Arcatea will start off with a Bye for the first game, but then will face each team, in order. Arcatean Manager Marvin Glove, who was in a car accident and broke his collarbone, will be on the sidelines for the matches. Reports were that he was to forgo the Cup of Harmony and allow his assistant to coach the team. Captain Craig Deal will lead this team, which had a fair showing in the World Cup Qualifying rounds, into this CoH. Hopes are high for this team, but as we've seen in the WC, anything can happen. It was reported that the roster will stay the same from the BoF and the World Cup, with the additions made in the World Cup to stand.

Silver Beach flops in Cup of Harmony opener, losing 1-0 to Bleak Rock
Image
Cameron Tabanou yells after giving up his only goal of the match, but that proved to be the game winner in a 1-0 battle

MONTRÉAL- Silver Beach came out in a flop in their Cup of Harmony 49 opening match, as they were pinned with an early goal from Bleak Rock in the 7h minute, and could not climb out of the hole as Bleak Rock went into a very conservative defensive formation for the duration of the match after their goal, and made sure they picked up all three points against the Bears. With this latest setback for Silver Beach, another 1-0 loss, the Bears are showing that they need to regroup and perform better against their opponents, and need to keep their focus as they transition between coaches, and leaders like captain Jacob Jenkins and central defender Joseph Givens need to step up and lead this team.

Silver Beach allowed an early goal in this matchup, which proved to be the killer and death kiss for this team in their Cup of Harmony 49 match opener. The opponents started the game off with the ball, and held the ball for almost the entirety of the game’s 1st 7 minutes. They manufactured a beautiful goal when their right midfielder crossed the ball to their center striker, who put his head on the ball to make it land in the back of the net to give Bleak Rock a 1-0 lead over Silver Beach, which proved to be all they needed. After that, they switched to a virtual 5 man defensive rotation, with 3 man in the back and two outside midfielders playing more like wing backs than outside midfielders, rarely making runs forward. The formation worked though, and largely kept the Bears from threatening, though the Bears did have a free kick from 32 yards out that was kept out by an outstanding save from the Bleak Rock goalkeeper.

In the second half, Silver Beach came out with more of a fire and a fury in their bellies, though it was not enough to get that critical goal against the defensive-minded Bleak Rock squad. You always had the feeling Silver Beach would explode after the first goal, though it never got that first goal. The Bears got a few good opportunities in the 2nd half, though they could never convert. The 1st golden chance was in the 53rd minute, when Alejandro Romano got the ball at the 18 yard line, and had a chip cross towards the back post on the opposite side. Jacob Jenkins leapt high for that one, but just missed the goal with his header, hitting the top of the netting for a goal kick. They had another great opportunity in the 71st minute, when they got a free kick from 21 yards away, and substitute Isaiah Usbeh, in for Zachary Roberts, blasted a shot that was hit out by a spectacular save from the Bleak Rock goalkeeper. Lastly, they had a fantastic chance in the 88th minute, but the game of missed chances carried on to haunt Silver Beach as Jacob Jenkins hit a one time shot off of a bad clear by a Bleak Rock defender, but the goalkeeper made a fantastic effort to jump up and punch it away, and with that punch away Silver Beach’s chances for another goal.

The Bears did not do as well as anticipated, as now they find themselves in a hole in the group, having not scored a goal or gotten a single point in match play, and having only three matches to try and make up this opening shutout. Interim manager Frank Lavar said that his team “played well in the second half, and showed flashes of our maximum potential, indidivually. What we need to do is play well as a team, as one unit, and then things will fall into place.” Silver Beach will look and try to recover in three days as they play their second match of the tournament on matchday 3 after their bye, trying to get in the points column for the standings. If Silver Beach loses again, then they will be out of the tournament before it began.

In other news, there are many rumored candidates for the manager’s position of the squad once the Cup of Harmony 49 ends. Lulika City FC manager Edward Hill, and Tudor FC manager Justin DeVolumes are both said to be interested in the job. There has been a leaked report that Silver Beach will go for a foreign manager for the first time in Silverian sports history, where a foreigner has coached a national team of Silver Beach. It has been rumored, though not confirmed, Theodore Czacki, the Stachland manager who led that team to their first ever World Cup appearance, flew into Lulika City International Airport last night, with his family. A spokesperson for former manager Romeo Juliani said this proved that the Association has already made its choice to hire somebody, though new Association Board Chairman Peter Morath, the first-ever manager of Silver Beach soccer, said that Silver Beach has not done any such thing, and mentioned how he personally interviewed Edward Hill and Justin DeVolumes for the managerial position.

Either way, Silver Beach has an uphill battle to climb, both mentally, and on the pitch. They say they are focusing on soccer, though some minds have to be drifting towards impressing whoever will be the next manager of the national team. Silver Beach will have to cut out the distractions and focus on soccer, and play a good match as a team for 90 minutes and stoppage, to pull away 3 points in their next match after they rest up during their bye day tomorrow.

DBSC Coverage: Cup of Harmony 49

Darmen lost it's first game in the Cup of Harmony, a 2-4 decision that went the way of Valladares. Luca Cormio and Kenneth Nolan provided the goals for Darmen. Manager Mikael Gibbons said, "This was our first ever meeting against Valladares and we didn't exactly know what to expect. But for playing against the number one seed in our group, we did pretty well." Darmen's defense looked a little lost playing against Valladares superior attacking bunch, and Keeper Troy Osborne just didn't have luck on his side.

Darmen will face neighbors Carmadin next in what will be the teams third meeting all-time. A look ahead:

Matchday Two: vs. Carmadin (Darmen leads all-time series 2-0-0)
-Carmadin is the fifth seed in the Group, and likely to be Darmen's "punching bag", so to speak. Darmen's superior midfield, which some have called "the best in Rushmore", should be the keypoint to a Darmeni win, as Tor Tong Lee, Zach Preston, and Luca Cormio will all be hungry for goals.
Predicted Score: 2-0, Darmen

Matchday Three: vs. Taeshan (Darmen leads all-time series 2-0-0)
-Taeshan is the number two seed, but Darmen faced Taeshan in their World Cup 57 Qualification Group. Darmen won both games by the score of one goal to nil, and we think it'll happen again.
Predicted Score: 1-0, Darmen

Matchday Five: vs. Arcatea (First ever meeting)
-This is the first ever meeting between the two teams, so we're not sure exactly what to expect. If Darmen can make it through the Group Stage injury and red card free, Darmen should be able to win this game easily.
Predicted Score: 4-1, Darmen

So there you have it, what looks to be a successful Group Stage for Darmen. As for whether they'll qualify for the Playoffs remains to be seen, as Playoff matches will need to be played to decide the final spots in the Round of 16. But it looks good for Darmen. Here is a prediction of what the final Group Table will look like.

1-Valladares-4-0-0-12 points
2-Darmen-3-0-1-9 points
3-Taeshan-2-1-1-7 points
4-Carmadin-1-1-2-4 points
5-Arcatea-0-0-4-0 points

((OOC: my roster has now been edited into my original acceptance post. Also requesting a style modifier of +1.5 if that hasnt been noted yet, thanks.))

AcademyDropout.osr | Blog

So... since it's been a while, and I'm really not in the mood for King's League chat -- yeah you know why, its no secret I'm a Turic fan -- I decided I'd throw together a preview of the Osarius squad for the Cup of Harmony. A little bit late, I know, since the first game was played a few hours ago... but, I'll share anyway. I've actually come back and reworked my draft version to include tonight's match. I know, I spoil you guys.

As one of the higher ranked sides entering the tournament, the Firebirds will be expected to escape the group stage relatively unscathed, and Montblanc will likely be under pressure to deliver a top eight finish at least. Speaking to Roberto Cormega, however, there is a realistic chance that the Firebirds could in fact win outright.

Montblanc's cautious philosophy, with its control elements, basically tries to combine the best of di Corradi's attacking system -- with what is effectively a front four, if we were to analyse field position -- with the defensive solidity and counter-attacking prowess of top tier King's League teams like Burningham, Utica and Turic. With two midfielders who are extremely capable on the ball anchoring the team, Montblanc has firmly placed all focus on controlling the middle of the park. When the team is not in possession, Roberts will be effectively isolated, as the other three forward players drop back to swamp the midfield. With the close control and creativity the Osarian midfield has, they should find it easier to gain an advantage in a congested midfield than most teams. Then, the team relies on the hold-up play of Roberts -- which drastically improved after his spell at Dominion, in Cotdelapoms -- and the clever link-up play of Pepito.

Defensively, Romano and Kinsella form a partnership not unlike the classic Higuain-Gidds tandem of the 2170s. Romano's more cultured football education in Queer Poco el Mono Ara has forced him to develop talents that Kinsella won't have done under Sir George at Burningham. As a result, Kinsella has far better sense of timing in his tackles and is a favourite for most aerial battles -- the combative, nitty-gritty stuff we love back home -- whereas Romano is more comfortable picking up behind him, tying up loose ends, and playing the ball out of defence with his superior passing range. This is not to say Kinsella can't play with the ball at his feet, however. Both fullbacks are the modern fullback type, they love to get forward when possible, but possess the awareness and pace to drop back when it is necessary.

The main question I had regarding Montblanc's squad selection is... why four forwards? He utilises a one-striker system primarily, so it seemed a little strange. However, the opening match against Rouge Pioneers explained it all. He's named four forwards to give himself scope to actually make a front four, and use a 4-2-4 system. It's a classic style that we haven't seen much of in Osarius, but it was very popular in some other nations, but I won't bore you with the history.

Basically, not long before half-time, when the team seemed to be struggling to make a breakthrough, Montblanc changed the system. Pepito moved up to become a centre forward, though he still dropped back a bit to link with Dhanda and Super Ayanna. Ibrahim and Martelli became out and out wingers -- like the Watson brothers used to play a lot, or like Bonriou, or even Wilson-Ouaddou when he played wide left -- and really stretched the game. This opened up more and more space in the middle, but because Pepito was being man-marked, the team couldn't capitalise. Second half, Montblanc changed things up by bringing in both di Corradis, and effectively making a sort-of crude imitation of the 4-6-0 system used by The Babbage Islands, in that his front four could all rotate between every forward position. It was strange to see Roberts and Pepito make way, but Roberts' hold-up play was no longer needed, and he couldn't use his pace to get in behind, because a) Rouge Pioneers had dropped deeper to deal with the quadruple threat, leaving little space to exploit, and b) there would have been nobody feeding the ball to those areas anyway. The changes paid off, and eventually Maria di Corradi broke the deadlock on sixty-seven minutes.

At first glance, the problem with this system though, is that Montblanc would be forced to commit to an overly attacking game, right? Wrong. He deliberately selected flexible players so that this wouldn't be an issue. The wily dog. Basically, this system allowed him to field Maria di Corradi as a lone forward, with Alessandro behind her "in the hole" -- get your minds out of the gutter, they're related! -- while Martelli and Ibrahim could easily drop back into their usual wide attacking midfield roles. Once the Firebirds had the lead, they just basically played keep-ball in the opposition half, waiting for a gap to open up. When one didn't and they got bored, they just took a shot from distance instead. It's not the best style to watch, admittedly, but if it gets results, I don't think I'm gonna care. I just wanna see my country make an impact on a global scale. What do you think? Entertain and win nothing, or be less entertaining and maybe win something? Fenris Sports Corner
Image
"Evening folks. This is Fenris Sports Corner with Chris Cotchery. Well it's been quite a day for Jedi8246 sports. I'll begin with the Cup of Harmony. Jedi8246 launched a flat-out stunning 2-0 shut-out of the higher ranked North Chicanan team in game 1. Thought to be a very powerful contendor, the Wyverns were not expected to win this game especially as an away game. However the Wyverns played one of their best games to date, completely dominating the second half of the game. The game started with the North Chicanan team gaining control of the ball for nearly five minutes. However, the Wyverns played tough defense stopping the three goal attempts. From that point on, the Wyverns maintained steady ball control, keeping the ball from going across to their side of the field for most of the first half. About 8 minutes in, Daniel Hem scored the first goal for our team. The second half played out in a similar manner, a goal about two minutes in by us.

This victory has invigorated the Wyverns quite a bit. Coach Hemlock stated after today's game that with playing like that, he fully expected to take the group. He was very pleased with his team's performance and hopes to repeat it for the rest of the games. This victory places Jedi8246 firmly in first place of the group. While there has been only one match, the other top team of the group tied against a considerably lower ranked team. We expect the Wyverns to go undefeated based on new analysis. While only time will tell what happens, Jedi8246 is very confident and celebrations are expected to take place throughout the night.

After the break, I bring you a look at the Tennis Lockout. And now to our sponsors."

Well that was a pleasant goal fest. 6-5 against our rivals FSSO. Where are they are rivals? Well you'll have to ask them…because I have no bloody clue. We just are. And so a wonderfully not typical Erathi took to the field against them.

------------------GALONLOTH(3c)------------------

-----LATHAN-----DINO(C)------DEL NARAN-----

------------------DEL PIETRO------------------

-----CULNÁMO-----DISANTOS-----ALONSO

-----NAO(vc)-----

------MALVOLIO--------RINGËRIL-----

A 3-5-2 formation. One we haven't used in…forever really. The key point here is Rafa DiSantos making his international debut. We had a lot to look forward to from the kid in this match as his passing is supposed to be really quite extraordinary. And it was for those of you who don't want to wait to here about how he did. FSSO had three debutants and was experimenting just as much as we were, playing players in unusual positions, using new players, all sorts of crazy things! Of course it does make one question. Why the bloody hell is there so much experimentation in a match that actually matters in the Cup of Harmony? Maybe if it was some friendly it would be alright. Anyhow Planeto Socrato confirmed that Roberto Bennedetto would be out for the whole campaign and that Galonloth would be starting in his place. Anyhow game time!

0': Whistle blows and FSSO kicks off.
2': Meh game so far. Possession has changed more times then Timo Skye changes girlfriends. Good passing from DiSantos though.
4': ImageGOAL 0-1 FSSO! Well shit that didn't take long now did it? Bill Riley gets a good pass from Djouru Calaga at the 18 and fires through Tom Lathan's legs for the goal. Sublime goal.
9': Chance for Erathore! Some excellent passing between the Erathi midfield and all of a sudden Malvolio has an open shot on goal from 25 yards out or so. He let's one rip but it gets some air under it and curls up and over the goal.
13': Chance for FSSO! Paul Fessner with a quality shot from 20 yards out but is denied by a wonderful fingertip save from Galonloth. I'll be surprised if this game stays 1-0 with the shoddy defense from both sides. I'll get a Bradini tattoo on my back if it does.
16': ImageGOAL 1-1 ERATHORE! Phew thank god we scored. I really didn't want to get a tat of some old guy. Brilliant pass from DiSantos to Camthalio Ringëril at the 18 yard line. Ringëril takes a lite touch before hitting a beautiful bender into the right side of the net.
24': Sorry was using the bathroom. Score is still 1-1. That's a massive surprise actually.
31': Chance for FSSO! A nice shot from Kieran Kane is blocked valiantly by Barino Dino who flung himself into the path of the shot.
37': Malvolio bursts into the box with unstoppable momentum and is clipped from behind by Colin Collymore. Naturally the CDP employed a blind referee who needs more then a seeing-eye dog to help him find his way out of the fucking bed.
39': ImageGOAL 2-1 ERATHORE! Beautiful through ball from Isidoro Nao and a nice left footed tap in from Rafa DiSantos to open the youngster's international scoring account.
44': ImageGOAL 2-2 FSSO! Chad Parsons goes on a run, does a cute little 1-2 with Fessner and taps it in from eight yards out. WHY DON'T YOU LEARN HOW TO SHOOT INSTEAD OF CHERRYPICK YOU LITTLE PRICK?
45': Halftime shows the game tied at 2-2.
45': And Erathore kicks off to get the second half underway. No substitutions or formation changes from either team. So that means more shitty defense.
48': Chance for Erathore! A strong, long-range shot from Ringëril clips the post and bounces out. He's upset with himself. Like he damned well better be.
51': ImageGOAL 3-2 ERATHORE! Good god the scoring doesn't stop! Culnámo gets in a nice cross and Ringëril smacks the ball like a young kid getting spanked and sends it into the net to give Erathore the lead. Again.
56': Apparently some people don't like my spanking reference. WELL SCREW YOU TOO ASSHOLE COMMIES!
60': Our midfield looks like their settling into their rhythm. Should see a goal soon.
62': ImageGOAL 4-2 ERATHORE! I'm a fucking prophet. Camthalio Ringëril completes his hat trick with a 12 yard shot that goes right between the keepers legs.
63': Image Scott Daley on for Paul Fessner (FSSO), Cesc Celestino on for Gaspare Malvolio (Erathore)
64':ImageGOAL 4-3 FSSO Nick Feeney outruns Tom Lathan to reach a Sammy Knowles long ball and he chips the keeper.
69': ImageGOAL 5-3 ERATHORE! A neat through ball from Rafa DiSantos allows Isidoro Nao to neatly chip the keeper. He tried to get back and save it but it wasn't gonna happen. TOUGH LUCK PAL.
74': Image Grant Davis on for Nicholas Kerr (FSSO), Mariano Alberico on for Barino Dino--Isidoro Nao handed captains band (Erathore)
76': ImageGOAL 5-4 FSSO! Chad Parsons heads in a Kieran Kane corner from the edge of the six yard box. This game just won't end.
79': Image Alexio Del Nieran on for Culnámo--Alexio Del Nieran given captains band (Erathore)
83': ImageGOAL 6-4 ERATHORE! Isidoro Nao neatly sidestepped Scott Daley but the latter stuck his foot out and brought Nao down, earning Erathore a free kick from 23 yards out. Alexio Del Nieran takes it and easily scores. Classy celebration of kissing his pointer finger and pointing it to the crowd. Actually that sucks. Do a backflip or something capitan.
84': Image Lee Sharp on for Chad Parsons (FSSO)
85': Chance for FSSO! A Kieran Kane free kick is barely saved by Galonloth and sent onto the crossbar and back into play before being cleared.
88': ImageGOAL 6-5 FSSO! A weak clearance from Tom Lathan fails to get the ball more then 20 yards away from the goal and Lee Sharp rockets it home despite Galonloth getting a hand to it. I don't think I can take anymore action, might have a heart attack.
90': Ref is adding on 2 minutes.
91': Erathore has finally taken control of the game and is passing the ball back and forth with ease.
92': ImageThe ref blows his whistle and the game is over.
FT: Erathore 6-5 FSSO (Camthalio Ringëril: 16', 51', 62' Rafa Di Santos: 39' Alexio Del Nieran: 83'; Bill Riley 4' Nick Feeney: 64' Chad Parsons: 44', 76' Lee Sharp: 88')

STARTING LINE-UP
3-3-3-1
------------------------------- Kielberg -------------------------------
--------------- Broberg - Friðfinnursson - Tommisen ---------------
-- Ragnarsson -------------- Eygenroy -------------- Ljótursson --
---------- Ragnarsson --- Sigurhelgason --- Jóhannsson ----------
----------------------------- Rosenmeyer -----------------------------
Happy to allow their opponents 60% possession or even more as a normality, Bleak Rock will be playing counter-attacking football this tournament. Looking to draw the attackers from the other team into a frustrating war of attrition in the defence, then lauching swift and devastating counterattacks that strike hard and fast at the opposition goal. This is guerilla football.
Modification: -5

The Protectorate of Bleak Rock is delighted to be able to submit their international team for entry into the Cup of Harmony. After an uninspiring debut on the international football scene, including an 8-0 humiliation at the hands of Polar Islandstates, the Dukes picked themselves up and went on to storm to the runners-up spot in the recent Baptism of Fire. The confidence brought by this soon disappated however, after the Dukes took over half the qualification campaign to score any goals. Things picked up, but fans felt disappointed by what could have been.

Ljótur Friðfinnursson was tempted away by the bright lights of the assistant post at Swartaz, and so the BRFA was left trying to find a boss to take the Dukes forwards. With no applicants for the job from within Rushmore, the net was cast wider. Still, no applicants. Running out of options, the BRFA finally started sending letters of job offers to manager who had been out of the game for a while, and then finally, in inward looking Yafor 2, they got a response.

Shaan Magerin, the legendary Yaforite manager, will be taking the reigns for this cycle after impressing as he took the Dukes to the Copa Rushmori quarter finals, only conceding a single goal in the process. Known for his unusual formations and his uncompromising attitude towards players who aren't performing as they should, Magerin will subsitute a badly performing star player within twenty minutes if the system doesn't fit the way he wants to unlock the opposing team. Controversially appointed the former-Astograthi-international Edorta Urrustoy as his assistant two games into the Copa, the two seem to gel very well, and will be looking to take their brand of football to a more global scale this competition after a respectable showing in qualification.

FULL ROSTER:
GOALKEEPERS
#1 - GK - Hallvarður Kielberg - Age 31 - Dominion (Cotdelapoms) - Hús Hreindýr
#12 - GK - Petter Sivertsson - Age 25 - Atammik Zenith FK (Polar Islandstates) - Hvítabjörninn Hús
#13 - GK - Jónas Magnússson - Age 30 - Glidi Hreindýrsal - Hús Hreindýr
Kielberg is the starter in what is a strong goalkeeping contingent in the squad, perhaps the best represented position of them all in fact. Sivertsson is one of a handful of representatives from the Polarian league, and one of only a couple from amongst them to not make the starting lineup, kept out by the impressive form of Kielberg, so impressive that it secured him a move to Cotdelapomais side Dominion.

BACKLINE
#3 - DC - Hafliði Broberg - Age 32 - Náhvarðvíkur Bæ IF - Hús Náhvalur
#4 - DC - Gull Tommisen - Age 32 - FK Grise Fiord (Polar Islandstates) - Hús Hrafninn - VICE-CAPTAIN
#22 - DC - Hallvarð Friðfinnursson - Age 28 - Port Milne (Southern Cynocephali) - Hús Náhvalur

#20 - DC - Benedikt Aagard - Age 31 - FK Hámarvik - Hvítabjörninn Hús
#23 - DC - Óskar Jóhannsson - Age 33 - K85 Járn Virkaroy - Hús Hreindýr
In a defence that will be keen on avoiding another humiliation like they received against Polar Islandstates, vice-captain Tommisen will look to lead the line and hold steady in the face of attacking waves. Aggressive and not ashamed of getting stuck in, even with each other, this speedy defence will look to irritate, frustrate, and close down quickly, and their tall imposing frames with an average height of 5'11" will not make it easy for any attackers.

MIDDLE LINE
#2 - DR - Guðjón Ragnarsson - Age 29 - High Groth Athletic (Civil Citizenry) - Hvítabjörninn Hús
#5 - DL - Jens Ljótursson - Age 31 - Norðurmýrar 87 - Hús Hrafninn
#8 - DMC - Dietar Eygenroy - Age 28 - Jan Mayen Islanders (Polar Islandstates) - Hvítabjörninn Hús - CAPTAIN

#17 - DR - Steingrímur Aagard - Age 31 - Glidi Hreindýrsal - Hús Hreindýr
#18 - DL - Eyvindur Náhvalursson - Age 29 - Náhvarðvíkur Bæ IF - Hús Náhvalur
The key figure of Dietar Eygenroy will lead the way from the centre of the park for the Dukes, having both top flight Polarian football experience, as well as experience playing in the TQCC for Jan Mayen Islanders, and will surely be instrumental in any victories the Dukes manage to get under their belt. This central line of 'the back nine' will serve as a way of mopping up any attackers attempting to find space between the midfield and defence.

WINGERS
#7 - MR - Karl Justinussen - Age 31 - Leiknir Reykjanesur - Hvítabjörninn Hús
#16 - ML - Ragnar Guðmundursson - Age 28 - Hrafninn Knattspyrnufélag - Hús Hrafninn
Here for the option of having wide midfielders rather than making the first team, Justinussen and Guðmundursson are not the fastest winger in the world, but still have a good cross and are tough to get past on the wing provided they're not pushed too far forwards. Which, knowing Magerin, I can't see happening all too often unless a counter-attack is in full swing.

FRONT LINE
#6 - MC - Jón Ragnarsson - Age 30 - Juvapanam (Kagdazka and Pazhujebu) - Hús Hrafninn
#11 - AMC - Ingvar Sigurhelgason - Age 20 - FC Cape St Paul (Polar Islandstates) - Hús Náhvalur
#21 - MC - Skarphéðinn Jóhannsson - Age 32 - RKA Hvalabátum - Hús Náhvalur

#14 - AMC - Oddi Jónatan - Age 28 - Dominion (Cotdelapoms) - Hvítabjörninn Hús
#15 - MC - Arnljótur Rosenmeyersson - Age 26 - Hreindýrsal Stríðsmaður - Hús Hreindýr
With no wide attackers in the starting lineup, Magerin has opted to play the quick and full of tricks Siguerhelgason through the middle, well away from his favoured left wing. The ever dependable Ragnarsson will harry and dictate pace in the centre of the park, showing the kind of form that caused Juvapanam to sign him up at the start of the other season. Jóhannsson is promoted to the starting lineup as a quirk of formation, whilst Rosenmeyersson is another winger adopted to the centre of the park for the prurpose of counter attack.

STRIKERS
#9 - ST - Vagn Rosenmeyer - Age 24 - Resolute Storm 1913 FC (Polar Islandstates) - Hús Hreindýr
#10 - ST - Gunnar Mackenzie - Age 24 - FC Cape St Paul (Polar Islandstates) - Hús Hrafninn
#19 - ST - Jon Dahl Pettersen - Age 29 - FC Fetlar (Polar Islandstates) - Hús Náhvalur
The attack for Bleak Rock is a strong and young one, with new Resolute signing Rosenmeyer the key outlet for attacks and the frequent hero of the side, and young starlet Gunnar Mackenzie - having chosen his Blockhead nationality over his Polarian one after independence was granted - will be looking to show the Terns exactly what they're missing should he have the chance to come on to either partner Rosenmeyer or replace him to us his slightly superior pace to fit into Magerin's masterplan.

"Our backs are to the wall already."

The seven other faceless bureaucrats had all taken a step behind - one of them, Ed supposed, but he could never tell which was which. This whole arrangement was incredibly unwieldy. Today, after getting their asses kicked 4-2 by a Kazzoria team that hadn't even provided them with a way of telling which Kazzorian was which, the bureaucrats had left the whole team to stew in their defeat for a full half hour while they took endless votes on what to say next and how to say it. And this is what they started with?"

"We need to win out to advance. Kazzoria is the best side in the tourney, according to the numbers. The numbers suggested they were three times better than us. They were not. That is something. We were the better team on the pitch for four, five minutes at a time. We need to keep that up."

"Some of you have been treating this like a vacation. It's not. You will be expected back at the hotel at 11 tonight. No exceptions. We will not be able to compete if we are all hung over."

"Keep your heads up, we'll be fine. That's all."

Thirty minutes for a goddamn curfew? Ed shook his head as he picked up his backpack and headed for the bus. The hour and $40 in drinks he had spent finagling that girl's number had been wasted. What was the point of traveling the world if you can't meet strange women while doing so?

Gil Diego scores sole goal as Mapletish goes 2-1 down against Mangolana.

Young Maplish Guns scores dignified loss against veterans

By : Fango Deans
Mangolana 2
(Akeem Howard 15 , Eric Donald 23)

Mapletish 1
(Gil Diego 68)

Axel Heiburg-Young Maplish guns scores a dignified loss against Mangolana priced as the veterans and the favourite to finish the group first. Earlier hopes to squeezing out at least one point from Mangolana was proved to be just hopeful wishing for Mapletish. It was a game in which the Maplish young guns have to prove to fans of the national team after several boos on the team selection. The game will definitively be the one to forget for Yannis Spiridon and Blas Pepe.Blas Pepe will be having his own nightmare as his gloves seem to be filled butter, causing him to mishandle the ball quite a few times in the match.Akeem Howard secure an early lead in the 15th minute when a nice cross from the young 19 year old JD Fuller met with Akeem Howard and a nice slot in by the 24 year old Mangolana starlet. Mikael Svensson's side successfully pulled off another upset to the Mapletish's defence after just 8 minutes, when an offside free kick awarded to Mangolana taken by Allen Fuller met with JD Fuller and another well through pass to the Mapletish defence to Eric Donald who brought the ball straight down the center passing by the on coming Adrián Adolfo and narrowing tripping on a well timed tackle by Eutropio Lorenzo, unable to hold on to the ball any longer as the oncoming Calixto Pablo prepares to shadow and pressure him,he gets a high pass to Allen Fuller who dashed straight into the penalty box where he sees Eric Donald at the blind sight,he passes the ball to him in which he slots without effort.Blas Pepe went on his knees as he is comfort by his captain Gil Diego.Yannis Spiridon stayed on the sidelines with a disappointed look on his face as he stayed still with thoughts. With half and hour played, the game was evenly poised, with both teams attacking on the break and sharing a similar amount of possession.Akeem Howard who caused quite a bit of problems for the back four of Spiridon's men throughout the half, had a penalty to claim 10 minutes before half time.A through ball by Allen Fuller saw JD Fuller trip over Mario Eugenio's foot but the referee allowed the game to continue.A minute later,a second attacking threat by JD Fuller cause Blas Pepe went diving to his feet and cause JD Fuller to fly into the goal net,but an analysis by the team doctor of Mangolana made sure that Fuller isn't injured. For a half time change,Graciano Heraclio and Clemente Herberto were replaced by Matías David and Yago Vinicio as the former 2 doesn't bring out much attacking threat to the defence of Mangolana. The pendulum had clearly swung in Mapletish's favour as they dominated the first 20 minutes of the second half.

Gil Diego and Yago Vinicio continued to inject life into the Maplish attack and had a shot blocked by the legs of Tim Hedjuk Jr after a nice cross from the left flank by Deigo.Despite dictating the tempo,Mapletish were soon humbled when a wonder strike from Howard from 40 yards almost rocketed into the top corner of Blas Pepe's net. After the near goal by Howard,Mapletish were given a thanks-giving chance after Diego went down in the box after having his short pulled by Mathew Johnson. The captian stepped up to take the penalty he had earned and calmly sent Tim Hedjuk Jr the wrong way to get a goal for Mapletish. After an action packed 10 minutes which culminated a wonder strike and a penalty goal, the game settled down. However,Mapletish continued to permeate Mangolana's half albeit failed to create any clear cut chances.Howard had a relatively quiet second half came to life in final moments. He banged in 2 near goal chances wide of the goal.Mapletish almost get an equaliser as Diego wiped up a nice hit free kick from outside the box only to see his efforts tipped away by Tim Hedjuk Jr.Mangolana held on to their lead for the remaining 1 minute and ensured a momentous victory.

Responses

Yannis Spiridon wrote:I am more or less happy with the performance, the lads did well and I am happy with their performance,I would like to comment on Gil Diego's excellent efforts in trying to get a goal out for Mapletish and his efforts to score and help his teammates get the goal.Although we might have loss,we loss to a veteran team with only a goal margin, although the high expectations of the fans demand that we get past the group stage,I can really feel the pressure mounting up for me.I will have to gear the team up at the bye-day so the next match will be something that the fans would be looking forward to.I am fully aware that the team Mapletish does not have quite a good start to this sporting campaign as a clear winner of the Republic Cup went haywire with a 6-1 loss and get knocked out.I will want Mapletish to fully get the best out of themselves in the next match.

Michael Jacks [Student and Football Analyst] wrote:A loss to Mangolana with the future of Mapletish with only a one goal margin is seriously not a bad thing,I don't see why we have such high hopes to the current Mapletish XI playing in the Cup Of Harmony.A team with no international experience,no experience players and a manager which have only a managerial experience with 3 clubs, all mid table finishing clubs. Is there something wrong with the Mapletish FA.I don't see why at the very least putting in a Steven Johnson would be a difficult job for the manager to do,but what I can see from the match is that,Mapletish did well with this lads,I can only give one excuse is that,Mangolana is only giving us chance, with a team way better than ours, they are no pushovers, but with the utmost respect, they gave us chance.I can only praise one person in this match which is Gil Diego and no one else.I am seeing it this way, what's the point in putting in 4 forwards who proved a little threat to the opponent's defence and a winger doing all the attacking job?So I will seriously hope that Mapletish do their sole best in the next match to at least earn a point to earn back the respects that Mapletish deserved fro the local fans.

MICHAEL VII FOOTBALL

Cup of Harmony action begins, Michael VII to now play Cyborg Holland in Cup Opener!

Well, now Michael VII are to finally start playing in the Cup of Harmony! Yay! Not. Well, yeah, its better than no Cup at all, but most of these guys would prefer to be elsewhere playing for their clubs instead of in a losers tournament. So, MD1 has gone by, and Michael VII has exhausted their bye day. Now they've got 4 days of straight football to try get through to the knockout stages where Michael VII can see if they can truly play up with the big boys.

Tomorrow we've got Cyborg Holland, who came off of a 1-1 draw with the Kiaser Colonies in today's match. Coach Dave Assen expects big things from these boys, especially from his Captaining duo, Carlos Belk and Allen Willie. If Michael VII can control the flow of the ball, they'll be able to control the ball and should come away with a win over CH. Good luck boys and tune in tomorrow!

In other Group C news, Kazzoria beat New Montreal States 4-2 to take sole possession of the group lead. That is, until we play them!

JUNGLE CATS STARTING OFF STRONG

Win over Carasatoga provides boost to CoH Campaign

The Jungle Cats started off right where they left World Cup Qualifying with the key victory over Carasatoga to start their Qualification Campaign. Group Favories Erathore were also victories leaving it likely that the MD3 clash between the two nations will be all the more crucial to deciding the final group standing. The squad looked very similar to that which played many of the Qualifying matches though Astara Daiili was on the bench replaced by Viliaka Morasita. And the change proved fruitful almost immediately as Morasita got on the scoresheet quickly following a cross from Jomur Hulyer. The Jungle Cats would retain their lead through the next half hour until Carasatoga equalized through player #8. The media guide for the Carasatogan team was not provided and the players wore nameless shirts. Some of the Carasatogan supporters were chanting something to the sound of "Leebus" after the goal was scored, but it could have been the echo skewing the sound. At this time, Vilita made its first subsitution with Riksa Valjariia coming in for Rexii Tzikas.

The chanting lasted only a minute or so however, as the Jungle Cats struck right back through Erocka Lorei to take the advantage into the half. With a 2-1 lead at half time the Jungle Cats were in good position, though the second half started a bit bland. Actalia Mermaioda, making 'waves' in the media in preparation for his attempt to swim from Cote-Est to Ile d'Elisabeth during the week off between MD1 and MD3, came on for a rare appearance on the pitch at the break, with goalscorer Viliaka Morasita making way. The Jungle Cats had a penalty claim denied in the 62nd minute after Siazzu was tripped at the top of the box, but did double their lead on 64 minutes as Lorei once again found the back of the net. The game was back and forth with both sides getting good chances. Carasatogan #14 made it 3-2 in the 70th minute before it was the swimmer Mermaioada scoring for the very first time Internationally in the 79th minute to restore the Jungle Cat advantage.

Hulyer earned his man of the match honors in the 84th minute with a solo run putting Vilita up 5-2. The Carasatogan's crawled one back after the kickoff but it was too little too late as the Jungle Cats propelled themselves to the top of the group, with a critical match against Erathore upcoming in the Cup of Harmony quest. In the other group game, Erathore squared off against FSSO. Ironically, while there was no media guide provided for Carasatoga, two copies of the FSSO media guide were provided so everyone in Cotdelapoms now seems to have all the details about football in the FSSO. The match meant more to the FSSO than it did to Erathore, and it showed on the pitch as FSSO's nerves got the best of them in a 5-6 defeat to the group favorites.

Shaan Magerin took another sip of his coffee, and nodded appreciatively as he watched his team train. These Cotdelapomais at Alex Rideau really knew their way around a Mwembamban blend, he had to give them that. It was one of Magerin's core tenets in life. Live football. Eat football. Breathe football. Drink good coffee. Win 1-0, always.

Montréal was treating the Blockhead team well so far, and Magerin was quietly optimistic that they'd be able to make a decent impact on the tournament. They had done well at the last Copa Rushmori, but again had faltered in World Cup qualification. They hadn't shamed themselves by any stretch of the imagination, but the Blockheads seemed far more cut out for the shorter tournament, and Magerin was trying to forge a winning mentality back into them. Along with his assistant Edorta Urrustoy, he had to get the Dukes up to a winning standard. If they wanted to beat Triimoria like they'd beaten Silver Beach, they would have to be firm, on form, restrictive, conservative, brutal, and resolute.

Talking of Resolute...

Magerin looked for Vagn Rosenmeyer, there. On the other side of the pitch, in space, but not calling for the ball, shoulders down. Two cycles ago, the young striker had been courted relentlessly buy scouts from Resolute and Surtsey, and he eventually made the decision to sign for Resolute. Now, Resolute had been relegated, not through lack of effort on Vagn's part, and the relegation was hitting the youngster hard. His head was down, and he'd played poorly against Silver Beach. The early goal had gone to Sigurhelgason, and Mackenzie had come on for Rosenmeyer in the second half, as the Resolute man had been so ineffectual.

Shaan's phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Hello? Is that Shaan Magerin?"

"Speaking, who is this?"

"My name is Hreinn Fridfinnsson, you do not know me, but I need your help."

"What's this about, pal, I've got a team to manage here. How did you get this number?"

"Through my contacts. My Magerin I am the owner of Cotdelapomais club Cap Nordique, and I have a proposal for Vagn Rosenmeyer. I wondered if you might let him off training this afternoon? I have a car waiting to take him up to see me..."

OOC note: I have decided to add video or music links to the songs Mace does so that younger audiences who may not be familiar with some of the music can actually hear how it was meant to be before Mace butchers it.

Monstar’s Anthem

Announcer: Ladies and Gentlemen we have some very distinguished guests in the crowd tonight. In addition to the Sea Dragons Footy Squad we have the pleasure to welcome for the first time ever the brand new Sea Dragons Basketball team that is slated to take part in IBC IX which is set to begin shortly. And in welcome to our new friends Mace will perform a very special song…Give it up for the Sea Dragons and the King of Karaoke himself, Mace Kinoz’gh!

Jonasei: I wonder what Mace has in store for tonight. Just hope iot is better than the last one.

Orundii: How bad was the last one?

Kymy: He did “Ice Ice Baby”. That’s how bad it was.

Mace: Greetings, earthlings
We have now taken over your radioooo..…

Laxyn: Oh hell yeah! Haven’t heard this song for a long time.

Laia: That’s the tactic we use - hit ‘em high then hit ‘em low.

Jonasei: And it worked against TKP at least. 2-0 was a brilliant result.

Mace: Goin' straight through the hole
You ain't got no game
I'm breakin' ya out the frame
Coming through like a train

Orundii: We just hope that we can have the success you guys have had.

Kylek: Hmpf. Better hope for better than being a fringe side always looking in.

Laxyn: Gotta start somewhere and y’all win far more often than not.

Mace: Looking to take over the world is my goal
With my unstoppable crew takin' all control
You can't get none of this, we're runnin' this
Well taker, earth shaker, 3 point gunnin' this

Fekelii: Nothing like playing in front of a huge crowd. Just remember not to get caught up in all the hype.

Ombar: Can I hit the players from Smiley World? I would love to make them quit smiling.

Kymy: It’s Miley World. And yes you can hit them - on the pitch that is.

Mace: Get out the lane, i'm comin' through
And if you don't wanna move then i'm comin' right through you

Ombar: Miley World, Smiley World. As long as I can hit ‘em I don’t really give a Krytie nickel.

Laia: Grégory Dedieu is one hell of a scorer and The Ashley chick is no slouch either.

Kylek: Gregory Doo Doo. Sounds like shit to me.

Mace: It's like inch by inch and step by step
I'm closing in on your position and destruction is my mission
Though eight is not enough, your whole squad better duck
It's like switch when I bust

Fekelii: It’s Dedieu. Geez people.

Orundii: Does sound a lot like Doo Doo, though. I wonder if he stinks. Hmmm…

Kymy: You guys can be so disgusting.

Mace: Now you're whole crew is dust
Comin' through my area, i'ma have to bury ya
The real scream team on your scream scene
It's like showdown on the range
Go tell me who wanna tangle with the
ghetto witch-doctor neighborhood superhero?

Laxyn: I think we just might come see that match. I have the desire to yell Doo Doo from the stands.

Jonasei: Now that would be awesome. And we could really use some support as we play in front of their crowd.

Laia: Not to mention we nee blinders to cove thos pink and blue kits. Damn.

Mace: We want it all (want it all!)
Unstoppable, we run the floor (run the floor!)
You can't take none of this hardcore (hardcore!)
In the game we take you to war (war!)
You ain't seen nothin' like this before

Sanlioch: Pink kits? Which one is it? The Whores? The Men-Haters? Or maybe the Pointy-eared-pansies?

Kymy: None of those. It is Miley World we play.

Ombar: Smiley World? Thought we was playing somebody else. Least you said so earlier.

Mace: If I hit 'em high, hit 'em high, hit 'em high
And you hit 'em low, hit 'em low, hit 'em low
If I hit 'em high, hit 'em high, hit 'em high
And you hit 'em low, hit 'em low, hit 'em low

Fekelii: What a bunch of morons

Orundii: That’s what I mean. You guys are good enough to joke no matter who the competition is.

Lanyx: And good enough to back it up most of the time.

Mace: Insane like a runaway train i'm in your lane
Like it's only 3 seconds to score to win the game
Came to bring the ultimate pain upon the brain
Untamed, you won't like it when I change

Jonasei: And good enough to be relegated to the Cup of Harmony yet again.

Kymy: And you guys are ranked better than we are in your competition.

Orundii: With far less nations competing. But I see the point.

Mace: And you are type strange
Make room, manaical monster in the game
And I got my eye on you
Deadshot aim, as free throws keep comin' down like rain

Laia: Okay. Enough of the serious talk. Time to drink and have some fun.

Lanyx: I second that one.

Ombar: As long as I can hit one of those Smileys.

Mace: You feelin' me, I'm feelin' you
The Monstar again, i'm tellin' you
Pass me the rock, now i'm headed to the basket
Get up out my way is what you better do
My tactics is unsportsmanlike conduct…
