I use the image for artistic purposes only :)
Even assuming such a thing as an opposing gravity field were possible, the rounds still wouldn't work as intended due to curvature of the earth, ground speed etc. Just use a missile, lol.

However, aesthetically speaking, that image is exactly how my HAV-3 SPAAG looks.

I quessed that much, but still wanted to say that. ;)
Because fitting a-grav into bullet/shell would likely be detrimental to terminal ballistics.

On my tank (lolWIP drawing above), I was thinking of having both the front and rear sprockets as drive sprockets.
The front sprocket would be driven by the transmission, which is mounted in the front hull. The rear sprocket would be driven directly from the engine's drive shaft, when one of the three reverse gears were engaged, to get maximum engine power reverse if, for example, it wandered into the path of artillery, aircraft, enemy anti-armour units... etc
Is there a reason why powering things directly from drive shafts (not running through transmissions) is a bad idea?

Note the 'drive shaft' is from an electric engine, not from the piston engine which powers it.

Wow. Well, being a university applicant with exams at the end of this year, I don't think I'll be doing anything like that.

Still, that's Macabees. I'd expect no less from him.

Yep. Range, power, and accuracy are very important IMHO. It fires and displaces rather quickly, too.

Main battle tanks are meant to destroy enemy materiel and personel they have line of sight to, and are armoured to take fire all but heaviest/dedicated anti-tank weapons.

Self-propelled artillery, either gun or howitzer, are meant to destroy targets beyond line of sight and are on lightly armoured, usually against fragments and infatry small arms.

AS-90 is Self-propelled gun(?)

If you don't know what MBT you want, Challenger I/II probably would go with AS-90.

Yes, but if I keep them out of range and mobile, they can rain hell on the enemy without having to take fire. Why would I waste money sending turtles with less effective guns into the front lines?

You won't be able to keep them out of range when there's nothing to stop them from plowing through the lines to get to you.

MBT's can keep pace with, and even outrun, SPGs, so you're not going to have any mobility advantages.

A 120mm ETC gun is more than sufficient for most NS MBTs, so it's not really a less effective gun, and since you're not wasting a massive 155mm HE round on an Abrams/Leo2/whatever, it probably is a more efficient gun.

Really, the only thing an SPG has on an MBT is a big gun, which simply is not enough.

I cede. I guess I'll have to go design an MBT. Damn this is going to suck.

Quick question. I decided to take a venture into making a super-heavy tank that i dubbed 'armor superiority assault tank.' Now I'm wondering If I should use 255mm smooth-bore or rifled. I'll post the pic at a later date for comments

Why such an odd number, and why such a large number? Go 180mm ERFB, and fire LOLSAT sized GLATGMs as well as plain HE, spin stabilized HEAT (with a Gold liner instead of a copper liner), and APFSDS.

Oh! TI never thought of firing LOLSAT sized GLATGM's....... That sounds quite fun actually. Yes that will do. Question is, How long do think the barrel should be? In fact I need to find a measuring system.

7 metres or less, otherwise the tank won't be able to fire accurately when on the move. For the 180mm gun, the length, assuming you wound a whole L/x number, is 6.84 metres (L/38).

Well 7 meter rule still stands so.. Of course if it is going to be stationary the only limiting factor is environment. If you want to follow the 7 m rule go 39 caliber, 20mm doesn't make any difference, if you aren't going to follow the 7 m rule I suggest limiting it to 8 meters at most which is the length of the main gun of the K9 Thunder SPG used by RoK, so about 44/45 caliber.
