Patterson gave John Davis,Steven Johnson,Alero Junio,Alex Timi their rest in the match against Gyatso-kai but Mapletish was unable to bring in the results despite having Sonny Oakes,Cliche Gary,Jones Willams and Trev Tokin as replacments.Gyatso took the 1st half advantage to break into the shakky defence without having to care about the threat of defensive minded Johnson and the leader of the backline John Davis and the tight defence was outrunned by the opponent's five star offensive players.Gyatso-kai took the lead through swift counterattacking after they caught Jones WIllams and Cliche Gary off position in the 25th second to bring in a goal.In the 5th minute,Mapletish letted in another goal which blew the shakky defence up,the stunned defence was met with fast waves of hard blowing attacks from the offensive side and they scored from a low range shot.Gyatso-kai piled up on their attack hopping to bang in more goals.In the 10th minute,their hardwork was rewarded with a goal from a close range shot with caught Trang Adam with his butter fingers.Gyatso-kai maintained the play at the Mapletish's half until the half-time whistle with a total of 17 shots in total.

In the second half,Patterson brought in three new faces into the game,with John Davis back to lead the defence,Steven Johnson back for the midfield and Junio for the attack.This proves as a disater for Gyatso-Kai as they are unable to get the attack going.It was true that Patterson has changed their original armoury attack to a 3-2-5 offensive stance.The defence became harder to break and Gyatso-Kai was unable to even get the ball of their own half.In the 50th minute,Mapletish saw a chance,Steven Johson was charging into Gyatso-Kai's half and did a lob to Junio who got on the ball and shot past the keeper but it was ruled as an offside.The same scenario was repeated in the 55th and the 65th minute,catching Junio offside 3 times even though he scored on the three occasions,the referee was mistaken by the play as he did not want the video replays to be played again and let the match continue,which was pretty reckless.Mapletish got their wel-deserved goal in the 75th minute when Steven Johnson,Andre Rondo,Serago RIms,Craig Thomas and Junio played around in the Gyatso-Kai's half and they were like chasing shadows and a final pass came to Junio's feet and he banged the shot in clean and neat.Mapletish held on to the attacking tempo till the final whistle.

Mapletish was up to the standard in the second half as they started to strengthen up from there.Gyatso-Kai was considered the best team in the group as described by fans from Mapletish.Mapletish has got a lot to improve in this match,as we cannot always rely on the same old players as we need to be flexible on how we choose our players.Gyatso-Kai was to be praised,they really did pretty well controlling the game and getting the play moving.Well,I think that my players will have to be more hardworking during training this time.

Hey what's up guys,Mapletish lost their fifth match today against Gyatso-Kai and I think that Mapletish have done their very best to block them off but what I can see is that Adams have to change his gloves,it looks so slippery on his hands as he letted in a thrid goal in the match.
Five Things we can learn from this defeat
One - Mapletish's defense needs improving as they are easily outrunned by the five-star offensive module.
Two - Do not always depend on the same players,try out a flexible squad in matches as some of this players might be from the Fotbul League Championships and their game is not that physical.
Three - The midfield has lots of improving to be done.Mapletish has got quite a huge range of midfielding choices in and outside of the country to choose from,I have notice that most of the midfielders from the current squad are good ball distrubuters but we need a team that can distrubute the ball and keep the ball moving.I can simply find a random team from The Backyard or from the Fotbul League League 4 and they can produce an accurate and swift passing team.
Four - We need improvments in our tatics.Patterson looks as if he didn't manage a Mapletish Premier League team before.The last time he did that was in the 2006/2007 season in which he gave West Ham United a 15th place finish,not very impressive.If tatics were to be the same in the BoF,we can forget about playing in the Playoff and advance into the next round.We should have make good use of the center to create space and then use the flanks as support heros.That is a simple thing that even a 3 year old child who just knew how to kick a ball can tell you.
Five - Mapletish definetely need to start to be more physical in their game.Mapletish seems to be lacking the sort of tempo when they are trailing by 1 or 2 goals and they start to slip in more goals as time pass.They do not have that kind of WIN mannar in their game.
Mapletish really has to improve in training before they face either Arcatea or Tryienne in which I think Arcatea has a 250% chance of winning.

Arcatea Wins Big while using reserves

Arlnet, Mangolana- Marvin Glove couldn't have asked for a more prefect game from his players tonight, as they knockoff Trimasia, 3-0. Glove had announced he wanted his star players to get some rest and to have the bench gain some experience, and they did just that by shutting out a miserable Trimasia team. The Phoenix came into this match knowing that they were headed into the next round, but weren't going to let that stop them from playing this game to the fullest. "We knew that this game didn't matter when it came to advancing, that it was only for practice and seeding. I wanted my guys to just play their game and not worry about having to win to advance, but we still won, and in convincing fashion. The guys from the bench played great games tonight, and everyone was playing as a team. We dictated the tempo of the game, and that resulted in us winning tonight" Said Glove.

Arcatea has claimed the #5 seed in the round of 24, and will play #12 Tryienne who comes in after a draw with Osesnsasandaes clinches them a berth. If Arcatea can win against Tryienne, the will face familiar foe Mapletish, who claimed the fourth seed in the Mangolana region. Mapletish media sources are stating that the Mapletish team is already preparing to face Arcatea as one source says, "I think Arcatea has a 250% chance of winning". Arcatea hopes that the addition of Deal into the line-up will help them get past Mapletish if they make it past Tryienne tonight.

A press conference has been scheduled for this afternoon to announce the line-up and to talk about the matchup with Tryienne.

Early Preview Against Arcatea
Acratea has amazed not only Mapletish but also all the nations in the group.Despite blinding them out in the first match with a 1-0,Patterson has saw a hugh improvement in Arcatea's attack and creative midfield choices.It will be difficult to pull them apart as it will be confirmed that Acratea has an odd of 0.55 chance to win the match which was proved as a huge difference from the 3.24 in the second match in the group.
"Well,my training methods would be to counter Aractea as if we can do that,then if we face Tryienne there would be no problem.I am actually full of praises for them as they have got a feary striker for them,Deal.Deal is an amazing prospect and predicting his every move through watching the games that Aractea played from the match against us to the match against Trimasia.We would also be looking into preparing every single move Arcatea might try."said Patterson.

Flexible Squad
Acratea has shown that they have a flexible squad having used reserves but still able to keep a cleansheet and bang in 3.The bench has got around the same ability of the starting eleven,which will make Mapletish try their best in the upcoming match,as claimed by Patterson.
Fans Of Mapletish have said that the match ahead of Arcatea will be a big match to come,as both teams are evenly match.
Both countries are trying to create history to get past the rounds and also to turn the tables.
A match with quite a big number of goals will be expected.

Brendino the 3rd Secures #6 Seed in Qazox Region
After a harrowing defeat of Carmadin in their final group game, Brendino the 3rd finished 2nd in the group and has secured the 6th seed in the knockout rounds. They will play the 11th seeded team from Howdeelow, the winner is to face a tough Seunem squad. Despite being seeded ahead of Howdeelow, Brendino the 3rd is not underestimating their opponent. "They have a high powered offense. We need to score some goals and defend extremely well if we want to come away with a win." said coach Keiger. Howdeelow finished third in their group, with a much higher goal differential than Brendino the 3rd. William Fleming, the Ferret's captain, spoke to the press after practice yesterday:

Howdeelow is a talented team. But we know we can beat them and our team believes in every guy to play hard and get us the win. This has much more riding on it then the group stages and we have to prove that we deserve to be here. Our squad has really come into form this tournament, especially Joseph [Pratt] and Jayden [McKenzie].

Both Pratt and McKenzie have been instrumental to Brendino the 3rd's success so far, with Pratt leading the team's scoring and McKenzie playing solid in net.

Preview of Match against Tryienne and Press Conference Coverage

Arlnet, Mangolana-In Arcatea's first international sporting competition, they have fared well, reaching the round of 24 in the Baptism of Fire. The fifth seeded team in the Mangolana region, is looking to advance and bring great pride back to the shores of Arcatea. The Phoenix are to play Tryienne tonight, and we are here to give you a preview of that match. Tryienne was 2-3-1 in group play, and only come into this game +1 on goal differential. Unfortunately for Arcatea, there wasn't much coverage one the games in which Tryienne played, but the team says they are prepared for this match. Arcatea comes in with a +5 goal differential, having tied for 4th in the Mangolana region for goals scored. Craig Deal is leading the team in goals with 5. Goalkeeper Mike Wilson, who before the BoF hadn't allowed a goal in over a year, has been playing solid despite having been shaken up after allowing the first goal against Mapletish in the 85th minute. Tryienne's starting 11 looks solid, but Arcatea looks to have some strength on the bench, using mostly reserves in last nights win against Trimasia.

In the afternoon press conference, Arcatean Manager Marvin Glove had a few things to say to the media, before heading back to the team hotel to rest before tonight's game.

"We know that most people, including Mapletish, are already looking past this match versus Tryienne, but as a team we are going to take this thing one match at a time. We are completely focused on Tryienne and will be playing our best against them. Its hard to scout them out, as we don't even know which players are in each position, we just have names. We do know, that if we come in there and play OUR game, that we can beat them. I will be making some changes to the line-up compared to what we used last night. (Goalkeeper Mike) Wilson, (Defense Reggie) Johnson, (Defense Tom) Price, (Midfielder Owen) Man, and (Forward Craig) Deal are all back into the starting line up. We played great last night with our reserves, but we need our best guys out there from this match on. We won't be changing our focus to Mapletish if we can't pull a win out tonight.

The guys coming off the bench played great last night, but for me its going to be nice to be back on the field tonight. I will say its hard to focus on this game, when everyone else outside of this team is already talking about our re-match with Mapletish. Two hours after their last match, the Thatius team left the stadium via bus. Incredibly, all seventeen members of the squad and coaching staff and their bags were able to sit in the vehicle that was only supposed to seat about ten.

"Get your legs off of me dude!" shouted an angry Tommy Petzschner. He was the first one on the bus, and therefore had to deal with everyone else trying to pile on. Tommy shoves Fernando Montañés' legs off of him, even to Fernando's protests.

"There is no other way we can fit! The other guys filled their gear in the back of this dump and are standing up." He shuffles to re-arrange himself, and ends up falling on the floor. "Dangit! Coach. Seriously, we need a new van. Isn't there a rental place where you can get a van for the week or so?" asked Fernando.

"Nando, did you not hear us talk about this earlier today? We got this van yesterday because it was hard getting you guys to arrive on time being in cars, and this was a way to transport everyone. Besides, this thing was the only option within fifty miles. Well, I mean biggest. So looks like we're stuck with it." replied Coach Varenkov.

"Aghh!" yelled Fernando. "Charlie horse, Charlie horse, Charlie horse! Ow ow ow." He tries to get up to relieve the pain, but there is no room. He winds up hitting a few people in the face. "Dangit sorry! This bloody hurts. Someone move so I can -aghhh!"

"Calm down there Fernando." said Julian Irakli. "Here, have some water."

Fernando stands up after some players move themselves to make room. He exhales a sigh of relief as the pain starts to go away, and he grabs a bottle of water from Julian.

"That should help with the cramping. Next time, try not to be late for the bus, or you'll end up getting the worst seat. Maybe instead we'll tie the last person on the bus to the roof. That way we'll deal with one less person." said Julian, laughing. He obviously was ready for some pranks.

"Uhh...no." Fernando said, glaring. He was not in the mood for funniness after his recent scare. "Can someone turn on some music? Or the radio? Let's get rid of this awkward silence."

"Sure!" said the driver of the van, assistant coach, Marko Galovic. He pressed the button for the radio, and some opera was on.

"OH MY GOSH! MAKE IT STOP!" yelled Cédric Montello. He covered his ears and shook his head to rid the annoying music.

"Wow, talk about drama queen," said Tommy. "That was on for like, ten seconds and you screamed like someone dying from a zombie apocalypse. Calm the hell down."

"That music totally stinks. How about some rap?" replied Cédric.

"No thanks. How about we just talk?" said Coach Varenkov. "Yeah, let's do that. Instead of you guys being crazy when we're back at the hotel, we can just talk right here. So our next match is against Chuckio. Any thoughts?"

"I have one." piped Will Szrolzek. "Chuckio finished in their group third. They had one more draw than us thanks to having a larger group. But their team is mostly a mix of offensive and defense. Only three goals scored for them, and two against. We'll need to focus on a heavy defense and combine it with a striking offense. Their defenders must be really good to let only two goals get by them, so we'll need myself and Alex to pressure whenever we can, and hope that they'll slip up."

"Exactly!" exclaimed Coach Varenkov. "I was thinking along the same lines. We'll be talking more about strategy later, but let's just get a general sense of what we're up against. Prakusya, you will need to be organizing the back more. Tell them to push up when we advance, and make sure that every man is covered for corner kicks. We do not want a single goal against us. We really need this win to boost our confidence, especially if we'll be playing Euskirribakondara after Chuckio. O'Brien, Szrolzek, you'll be our two guys up in front. Concentrate on passing between the midfield and the front, and watch for openings. Any chance you get, take it. Just don't waste it. Any questions?"

"Yes, I have one." said Tommy. "Can we go back to driving in cars? I think my arm has lost all feeling thanks to being sat on."

Megadia have been offered another chance at the Baptism of Fire, being seeded 5th in the play-off stage and having to play 12th seeds, Deep Freid Bacon at Rockport Stadium in Rockport, Qazox. The winner will face 4th seeds, Lymantia. It is believed that Megadia will have to rely on Austin Freshwater-Blake to be their saviour yet again to fire them through into the next stage of the tournament.

Big win for Miley World against Hippostania

Miley World beat Hippostania 1-0 and took the #6 seed in the playoffs. When the game started most of Miley World players were surprised when they realised Hippostania's manager is a unicorn and one of their trainers is a pony. Most of them never saw a pony, even on tv except the players who talked with a pony the other day and Fabrice Durand, who was forced to watch My Little Pony with his little sister when he was young.

Well the game was kinda boring, Hippostania tried to attack but either Bradley Jones was making the save or their shots weren't on the target. Same with Miley World players, they couldn't score until the 59th minute when Ashley Johnstone finally scored on a beautifull pass by Connor Downing. Miley World also got a yellow card and Hippostania got two yellow cards.

Playoffs

Miley World took the 6th seed and will face the team ranked 11th in the 1st round, which is Braxil. We don't know much about Braxil, but I think Miley World can beat them. They beat Iphmopf so Miley World players shouldn't think they will easily beat them, I expect both teams to play hard and a low score by a one goal margin.

Match Report

With Mapletish Coach Patterson giving his star players John Davis, Steven Johnson, Alero Junio, and Alex Timi their rest in the match against the Bisons, Head Coach for Gyatso-kai Boba Vhett had other ideas in the works. He instisted his men would work as hard as possible in the game, and they certainly did not let up in the first half. Facing the offensive line of Kad'e Tay'haai, Wakahisa Hikaru, Pre Kryse, and Ngo Quyen --- who based on his pre-game interview, was wildly inspired by the locker room performance of 'Vode An' --- the Mapletish defence, which was considerably shaky in the first half, didn't stand a chance. Tay'haai and Ngo Quyen were able to pair up against Mapletish players Jones Williams and Cliche Gary to power in the first goal after just twenty-five seconds of play. A resulting celebration earned Tay'haai a Yellow Card for what the referees deemed "Unsportsmanlike Conduct" but that certainly didn't phase our men.

Goalkeeper for the Mapletish side, Trang Adam --- who is not the starting goalkeeper for the team --- was left with little to work with as the shakky defence for the Mapletish team simply was stunned by the impressive waves of attacks coming from the Bisons; on the first three waves, Wakahisa took four shots on target and Tay'haai took an additional three. It wasn't until the unsuspecting position of Kotyc'e Bralor in the 5th minute of play on the fourth wave that the second goal was brought in; assisted by Tay'haai, Bralor made the goal from short range which simply blew through the arms of Trang Adam.

It would a short period without another goal, as the Bisons matched their strength with their speed and began yet another onslaught of the top-ranked team in the Ordonez Group. Pulling together as a tight-diamond, Tay'haai and Ngo were able to push through the weak defence again and bring a third goal to the boards; this third goal was ultimately the game winning goal, with the Mapletish offence essentially absent in the first half. From close range, substitute goalkeeper Trang Adams apparently got caugt with butter fingers and just watched the two metre goal just sail by him.

Maintaining strong possession in the first half, Gyatso-kai would settle into a strong stride of play, shooting for seventeen times into the net.

At the start of the second half, Gyatso-kai was clearly playing the defence, having changed to a more-defensive-style of play. Giving Pre Kryse a break, he was changed out for defensive midfielder Tran Bảo. In addition, overheard in the locker room, Coach Vhett spoke to the Bisons, urging them to play a 'reserved style' and to "save some energy for the knockout, eh?". This clearly showed in the second half, with the Bisons earning less than 10% of the possession in the half.

Finally deciding to play some football, Coach Patterson brought in three new faces into the game; with John Davis back to lead the defence, Steven Johnson back for the midfield and Junio for the attack. This decision to finally play a game as oppose to treating Gyatso-kai like a joke resulted in Mapletish maintaining a strong offensive presence in the second half, with a new pitch positions to a 3-2-5 offensive. It would take five minutes of pussy-footing around before the Mapletish would bring a shot on target: In the 50th minute, Mapletish Steven Johson charged into Gyatso-Kai's half and did a lob to Junio who managed to get the shot past Nishimura. In the midst of the celebration, the refrees pointed to the offsids call against Junio.

For such a strong team who dominated the group play, for some reason or another, forward for the Mapletish Junio was unable to follow the rules of the game; while he managed to score three times during the game, all three goals were ruled offside --- a ruling made clear to anyone with two functioning eyeballs.

Finally, the first goal with the then-undefeated Mapletish team would come in during the 75th minute of play as Johnson, Rondo, Rims, Thomas, and Junio continued the Mapletish tradition of playing with themselves in the offensive zone. Distracted by such child-like anticts, Nishimura could not help himself, and allowed a sympathy goal to strike the back of the net, described in Mapletish media as 'clean and neat'.

Settling into their two goal led with less than fifteen minutes on the clock, Gyatso-kai would stay on the defensive, keeping any further goal attempt by the Mapletish from even passing the goal lines.

It came as little surprise to us, however, we are sure the surprise came to Camwood, who through winning the match yesterday, Gyatso-kai knocked them out of the running for the Knockout Rounds.

In the group stage, Greater Coventry was 2-2-1, massing 5 GF and 3 GA. Comparing that to our own records, we see that we had the same placements of W-D-L, yet we massed much more goals for as well as against; 11 to 8, meaning we only come out ahead +1 more goal than them. With a neutral playing style, perhaps the Bisons need to concern themselves with simply guarding the keeper and maybe only striking out once or twice for the goal.

Following a disappointing draw last time out amidst the chaos of Mangolana's weather/political/technological meltdown, the Tamarins continue to look worryingly jaded as the sharp end of the competition comes into focus. It is true that, with qualification as group winners and a bye to the Round of Sixteen already secured, there was less pressure on Coach Sampaio's boys to perform and the Gaffer did switch the squad around to rest players ahead of the knockout stage. Nonetheless he will be disappointed at the team's struggle to finish off the group whipping boys, and concerned that a loss of form is in the post at just the wrong time. Is the pressure of the big time getting through the Great Yellow Curtain that is the Tamarindian defensive play?

A game in which Tamarindia dominated possession without really providing a cutting edge or many clear-cut chances, they never looked convincing and it took until the 63rd minute for any sort of breakthrough. Perhaps, after almost throwing it all away against the Rouge Pioneers in the last match with kamikaze attacking, the Tamarins were feeling a little more cautious this time out. The unfamiliar line-up, although made up of many young Tamarins promoted together from the hugely promising under-21 squad, looked – frankly – unfamiliar. With each other. Though the Islanders had little to offer, Tamarindia certainly made a meal of it. It took a second goal in two games from Hannibal, latching onto a hopeful lob into the box by defender Patricio Guillén - from an indirect freekick at a seemingly safe distance – to settle the Tamarins down. Striker Marcos Suárez doubled the lead with ten minutes to go, before the Islanders' Mohammed Musa hit a speculative shot that Tapia somehow misjudged for a consolation with three minutes left on the clock. That was enough to worry everyone in the yellow camp for the closing stage of the game but marshalled by the excellent Otto Moscoso, the Great Yellow Curtain prevailed, and a poor victory, but victory nonetheless, completed the group play for the Tamarins.

Despite a certain anti-climax to a victory that puts Tamarindia into an historic Baptism of Fire knockout round with a very favourable seeding of second, one should take a moment to reflect on how far we have come as a nation to be competing at this level. And where better to begin that reflection than at the beginning, even back before the time when the Tamarindians invented Association Football a fortnight before the English did, but never told anyone?

#133. Dámaso Lemus Téllez
Zumalakarregi 1840s

Cigaro Carrasquill, one of the leading tobacco brands in Tamarindia prior to the Revolution of 1930, issued a set of historic collectible cards in the mid 1920s depicting scenes and famous personalities from the predecessor to association football in the country, known by various names but most commonly as Rolling Ball, or Bola de Correr, often simply shortened to Bola. Incredibly Dámaso Lemus Téllez, perhaps the most famous player of this extraordinary game, was card number 133 in the series of 140. Perhaps Carrasquill were saving the best to (nearly) last. The scene pictures Téllez in football colours - purportedly of his home team Zumalakarregi - which were not common in the game and usually reserved for the most prized players of a Bola team. More on Bola de Correr further down, but first, a reading of the back of this cigarette card, translated from the Anglo-Spanic:

D.L. Téllez, of Zumalakarregi: Señor Telléz was a famous player of Bola from the Teguise district south of Misión, the son and heir of a Tamar Post Man and therefore of great influence in the village of Zumalakarregi. D.L. Téllez was a sportsman of great repute, known across many districts and in the city of Misión itself for his exploits in wrestling, pugilism, brawling, running, sprinting, hurdling, and the racing of dogs, pigs, horses, snails, pigeons and jumping monkeys. Here we see him performing his famous 'knees-up', a trick whereby he would raise the ball from boot to knee and keep it there by bouncing it off knee and thigh to befuddle the opposition. Through this and other trickery he was influential in developing the code for Bola, and later of Association Football, since he often invented advantages which had to be legislated against for the benefit of other participants.

Zumalakarregi vs. Turegáno
In La Botela newspaper, 6 November 1847

The game of Bola de Correr was a huge affair, unregulated and adaptable to various conditions and locations, but at it's heart was the predecessor of football and a game for men, women and children to take part in collectively. Games were played between villages, and played literally between villages. The field of play would often stretch for five or six kilometres, with a goal at each end and all the natural obstacles of the environment in between. Teams would consist of dozens of players, as many as could be mustered from each village, sometimes counting over a hundred per side. Particularly gifted players would get to play in a uniform of sorts consisting of matching jerseys, trous, and stockings with the colours of the village well represented; but the majority of players played in their working clothes, never their bests, for it was a rough and often mucky game, injuries were common and damage to clothes almost inevitable. Here is an excerpt from a report on a game featuring the legendary Téllez:

After three hours of play in the midfield, during which time the ball was lost once in the woods up on the ridge at Rascón's Farm, the teams had set to the ruck around the old tamaroak tree in a wildflower meadow known locally as Leaning Field on account of the lay of the land in those parts. Zumalakerregi in possession were attempting to gain the high ground when poor Pancho Velez the miller of Turegáno encountered Dámaso Lemus Téllez, that rapscallion post man, and after a tussle the latter put the former into the tree, hanging by his braces and shouting curses, while the smaller children of the village who were not yet withdrawn through injury gathered in a circle about him and skipped and sang bawdy songs, while the play pressed on up the field and over the hedgerow into the next field. Pancho could not get down for love nor money and the story goes he hung there till nigh midnight, when the victorious Zumalakerregi crowd, numbering about sixty men, women and children, passed by on their way home and cut him free with the help of Trujillo's axe.

Bola de Correr
From Tomo de Código Bola, 1853

The teams used a large heavy ball made from the bladder of the hairy river dolphin and inflated with air or gas or the flatulence of a captive skunkwart – which would have disastrous consequences if punctured – and the object of the game was to score a single goal into the opposition net, usually by kicking or punting, but occasionally with the use of the hands to throw. Generally only those in uniform were permitted to use hands on the ball, although they could be used to hold, haul, fell, punch, gouge and generally assault the opposition in the field of play. Kicking was not confined to the ball but it's use permitted to a wide variety of applications, including but not limited to: kicking the opposition, kicking persons of the same team with whom you were having a neighbourly dispute, kicking through hedges, bracken, nettles and other natural obstacles, kicking unruly bullocks, and kicking magistrates and policemen caught in the frey when attending to their duties as marshalls for the game. A loose set of rules was transcribed as the grand-sounding Tome of the Code of Running Ball, although it was never learned by anyone and open to liberal interpretation; and it was constantly needing updating as Téllez and other talented sportsmen and women and children came up with new tricks to gain an advantage in the field of play. Among the helpful codes for Bola are:

iii.xiv.i: The margin of the field of play shall be no wider than four kilometres and no longer than eight; and the boundaries must be agreed upon prior to kick-off and must be clearly discernable; hedgerows and cart-tracks are advised, flags may be used where the landscape does not provide.

iv.xxx.ii: Concerning the engagement of an opponent who is not in possession of the ball – standard rules apply – it is illegal to intentionally cause the loss of life of an opponent; weapons are not permitted. A weapon in this instance is defined as: anything that is not the ball, your body or your boots (with your feet in them).

vlii.vii.ix: When in woodlands, headlocks are not permitted as a precaution against arboreal collisions.

vlix.i.i. The game is won when the ball is kicked or thrown into the opposition goal. The game is declared a tie if the winning goal has not been scored before sundown. Agree with the time-keeper before the start of the game the precise time of sundown.

Incidentally, The Code of Running Ball, or Código Bola, became the governing body of the sport and maintains these rules to this day, although football took over the hearts and minds of the people in the 1880s and Bola itself has not been played perhaps for 120 years.

Obituario de Dámaso
In The Public Notary – a now defunct newspaper, 28 February 1888

Contemporary documentation of the times tells us that Dámaso Lemus Téllez passed away peacefully at his home in Misión on 14 February 1888, where he was retired after completing his duties in the central government position of Post Master General, having risen through the ranks from humble beginnings as the son of the postman of Zumalakerregi. Says the Public Notary:

Señor Téllez was a man of indomitable character, a champion boxer, gifted liar and player of Bola. There was much to admire in him, as a friend, an ally, or indeed an opponent. The aged Mayor of Turegáno, for example, once played against him in a match of Bola, and says there was no love lost - “I hung him from a tree by his braces,” says the Mayor, Señor Pancho Velez, “and he swung there for a day and a night before we let him down. But he never held it against me.” Editors note: contemporary reports do not corroborate this account.

Arcatea to face Mapletish in rematch.

Narcana, Mangolana- One more win for the Arcatean national team, as they set up a rematch of their first international game versus Mapletish. Arcatea beat Tryienne 2-1 tonight, as star forward Craig Deal continues to dominate the score board as he scores one of the two goals for Arcatea. Frank Valery scored the other goal for Arcatea early in the match. Keeper Mike Wilson narrowly missed the shot that went in for Tryienne's single goal, scored by Hutch Logan in the 61st minute.

Mapletish had the evening off, and is ranked 4th in the Mangolana region playoff. Mapletish and Arcatea met in the first match during match play, with Mapletish coming away with the 1-0 win, scoring in the 85th minute. Many remember seeing Wilson almost have a breakdown on the field after he allowed his first goal in over a year. Wilson currently holds the record for most shutouts in ANCA history while playing at the University of Mason River. Arcatea hopes that the addition of Deal will be enough to beat Mapletish this time.

Its interesting, they beat teams we couldn't, and we beat a team they couldn't. We matched up fairly well in our first game, and we are closely seeded, so its going to be a good game. We are totally focused on this game, and we hope the strides we have taken during our few games after Mapletish will give us an advantage. Tryienne was a warm up for us, we knew we could beat them, and we did just that. We didn't score as much as we would have liked, but that fine, we scored more than they did and that is what counts. Beating Mapletish isn't going to be easy, but we are just going to go out there and play our hearts out. That's all that counts.

Brendino Captures First Round Victory; Faces #3 Seunem
The Brendino the 3rd squad managed a decisive first round victory over the 11th seeded Howdeelow team 3-1. After a good week of practice, forwards Joseph Pratt and Erik Jan-Bouwmans both managed to net first half goals, in the 23rd and 45th minute respectively. Pratt also entered the assists category on Jan-Bouwmans goal, feeding it to his fellow striker through two defenders. This game marks Pratt's 10th international goal. "I can't begin to tell you how excited I am for this team. Everyone is playing as a unit and were clicking at the right time." said Pratt.

On the defensive side of things, keeper Jayden McKenzie knotched 6 saves and only one goal allowed in the closing minutes of the game on a mistake by Zak Townsend. WIlliam Fleming also had an amazing game, preventing a goal with an amazing header and shutting down Howdeelow's best forward.

The Ferret's next match up comes against a solid Seunem squad who had a first round bye and was seeded 3rd.

We know that they are good, but we truly believe that we can win this game. Our team is riding an immense amount of support from our fans and the sense of unity is permeable. We can do this.

Three conclusions from Thatius 1-0 Chuckio

1. Strong defense led by a solid goalie
In yesterday's match against Chuckio, Thatius conceded a brilliant number of goals- zero. One of the best statistics to have on your side when you're talking about the defense. The Firebirds were led by their well-trained goalie, Novák Prakusya, who managed to save all six shots on goal. Coach Mitch Varenkov's strategy this time was to keep everything organized in the back, instead of the usual free-style method. In the past, he has let the defenders float all the way to mid-field, which has led to several blunders by the Thatian defense. But this time was different, as he made sure that every single member of Chuckio's team was covered, and had the least chance of scoring a goal. When a corner kick was coming, all three members of the midfield were pulled back for extra coverage, and helped eliminate at least two potential goals.

2. We were lucky
Yes, this game was very close. By score and by the looks on the field. Thatius started off with a poor showing, letting the Chuckio offense drag into their section of the field, and shooting on goal four times. They continued to pressure the team repeatedly, and showed no sign of stopping, but thankfully the experienced leadership of players like Prakusya and Irakli rallied the players to drive forward and get rid of the ball from the Thatian side. After this match, it looks like we've been lucky the whole way through- managing only two wins, a draw, and a loss, and barely making it to the knockout stages. This match has also exposed the vulnerability of the Thatian team. Together, this is their first match as a national team, after combining teams from other events, such as the Market Cup, Gemsbrook Cup, and Sixth Olympics. But already they have exceeded expectations, yet another step to defeat the first seed, Euskirribakondara, would prove to be a valuable learning experience for when the team starts to qualify for the World Cup.

3. Counter-attacks and pushing forward helped a lot
Again and again, the Firebirds took every opportunity they received to pressure the Chuckio defense. From throw-ins to kicks earned by a penalty, each method the team found, they used. This helped form momentum for the young Thatian team, as well as tire the Chuckio defense, enabling Alex O'Brien to score midway through the match. Even pushing up to the front helped. During one point of the match, two of the four defenders along with the three midfielders and three forwards were awaiting the corner kick that Thatius had on Chuckio's side. While it did not result in a goal, it showed that the Firebirds are not afraid to risk a lot in order to get a goal. Chuckio could have easily counter-attacked themselves if something should have befallen the Firebirds during the corner kick, but the constant pressure confused and surprised them.

Miley World beat Braxil in overtime and advances to the quarter finals!

Miley World beat Braxil 1-0 in overtime and will face Iphmopf in the quarter finals. It was a hard played and physical game for both teams, and both goalies blocked every shots on target. At the 66th minute Miley World were awarded a penalty. Connor Downing tried to kick the ball but he missed the ball and he lost his shoe. He better tie up his laces correctly next time. Well the score was still 0-0 at the end of regular time, so we needed some extra time and at the 108' minute Ross Wallace pass the ball to Ashley Johnstone. Johnstone then passes to Connor Downing, Downing shoots and he scores! Miley World wins the game and advances to the quarter finals, they will play against Iphmopf. During this game Miley World got 2 yellow cards and Braxil got 3 yellow cards.

Ipeland beat Skalholt 1-2 AET to seal place in Quarter finals. The first half was rather dull, with few chances at either end of the pitch. The closest Ipeland got to goal was when Kevin Texan's header hit the bar with 15 minutes of the half left. The second half was a contrast to this with many chances at either end and 2 goals being scored. The first goal scored was to Skalholt on the 54th minute, with the goal being blamed on a Blauird Monery blunder. Ipeland's goal came on the 89th minute, Kevin Texan scoring a header from a Ping Marshall cross. The game went into extra time, with no goals in the first half and no chances. The second half of extra time started similar to the first half, with few chances. Ipeland scored with the very last kick of the second half David Silverman scoring a spectacular goal from inside his own half.

Ipeland's next match is against The Kytler Peninsulae, winner of their group with only 1 loss to their name.

I thought we played well today, but improvements will be needed. Our next match will be a tough one, but I believe our boys can win.

IPHMOPF FACE MILEY WORLD IN PROMISING GAME

Iphmopf are to play Miley world in the quarter final of the baptism of fire after they narrowly overcame Braxil in extra time.

The game was even until thee 108th minute, when Jhonstone tapped into the Braxil goal. Miley world are seeded sixth, meaning Iphmopf are three seeds above them. And team goalkeeper Tom Overton is confident Iphmopf can progress;

"With our rugby league and cricket team falling at the first hurdle in other competitions, we have the expectations of a nation on our shoulders. In my opinion, that is more than enough to see us through."

And speedster Tom Simms is looking forward to the chance of running at the Miley World defence;

"Yeah of course it's a great opportunity to go through, given our fantastic campaign so far. I'm fit as a fiddle and raring to get going."

It should be noted that Simms, who will be the fastest player on the pitch on matchday, has some experience with Miley World players, having spent a season in the Miley World second division, playing alongside a certain Ross Wallace.

It might feel like a home game, but it'll be easy to throw away
They'll have more fans. They'll be fresher. But do not assume this will be easy for the Kytlerian soccer side

In a stadium redeveloped by Kytlerian architects Bright New World, with a significantly greater travelling following than their opponents, the Kytlerians could be expected to feel at home against Ipeland. But they come into the Baptism of Fire national quarter-final - in effect, a round-of-16 tie - in a position that might appear to be unfavourable to Kytlerian sportspeople. They start as favourites.

In the last few days, all the attention has been lavished upon one extraordinary against-the-odds win after another. Saugeais away in the World Baseball Classic? Tamarindia in the McLeod Cup? Krytenia in the same competition? It has been these baseball and Babbageball boys and girls (quite literally boys and girls, in the case of half the squad in the latter) who have captured the national interest while the soccer players have enjoyed one quasi-meaningless match against Dixie Provinces and a break while the first knockout rounds took place. Ipeland, meanwhile, were four minutes from elimination before an 89th-minute equaliser from Kevin Texan sent their clash with Skalholt into extra time, and were seconds away from penalties before David Silverman's speculative shot from inside his own half looped over the head of an out-of-position goalkeeper clearly getting mentally set for the shootout.

Kytlerian manager Thomas Morgan was in no doubt that complacency would have devastating consequences.

"This is our biggest ever game," he insisted. "And in honesty I think it's bigger than the ones to follow. If we get eliminated after winning this game, we'll be at least in possession of one of the best records of the teams here, and have a nice haul of KPB [world ranking] points to take to the World Cup [qualifying] draw. Lose this, and we'll have twelve points from a possible eleven games. It'll hardly help us at all. And make no mistake, this team can beat us. They're better than Howdeellow, and they beat us."

He quickly emphasised a positive note, though: "We got this easier route because we earned it, because we topped our group with four very good wins. We're in a stadium we've played in before and liked - I don't think it's significant that Kytlerians designed [renovations to] it, but it's a nice thing to know - nice excuse for calling it our home field. And I think that the draw could easily open up for us further down the line - I'm not particularly worried about Euskirribakondara and I think that Thatius can beat them having played at Estadia Pika last game, familiar environment and a lot more fans staying than you'd normally get. I've always said Seunem are the big danger in our side of the draw, but I genuinely think Brendino [the 3rd] can beat them. They had a very good win to get here, and the Seunem boys seem a bit quieter than before - the scouts say they're off the Verbosita, but I don't know what to believe with all that."

Someone at the press conference then asked if he knew whether the promised supplies of Verbosita and RP-inin had been delivered to the team. "I heard from the assistant who's handling all of that earlier today, and he says that we've just got some more in, although whether that's the shipment we were meant to get before I don't know. To be honest, I don't care as long as we win this game," he responded, clearly mildly irritated at what appears to have become a sideshow in this competition.

The Kytlerians will be back to a full-strength side, with Sven Vandenburgh once again available; Morgan says he is "considering his lineup, and in particular the formation to use against this team," but admitted he is likely to pack his midfield; "if we can win the ball quickly and then retain it, we can make the most of the opposition coming in more fatigued than us."

No Margin For Error

And so the Baptism of Fire comes to the business end of things; where mistakes can cost you the tournament, where an off-day will be your last day, where there is no margin for error. We can but hope the Tamarins have prepared well for the pressure of the knockout stages, and a rematch against the only team who have taken points from us so far, the counter-attacking former unknowns of Rouge Pioneers, who have come to Mangolana to rattle a few cages. They certainly gave the Tamarins a fright last time out, jumping to an unlikely two goal lead against the run of play but failing to finish off the startled Tamarindo, who clawed back a draw and should really have taken all the points. But the past counts for nothing and only today matters.

The Great Yellow Curtain will steel itself for the all-out attack the Pioneers bring to the table, and Otto Moscoso, leading the line and having the tournament of his life, will want to secure his grip on the medal for man-of-the-team - to be given out by Comrade-President Sunshine - by marshalling the defense to a clean sheet if at all possible. In the middle, young Hannibal has come in to his own with some aggressive midfielding and the odd foray into the box which has brought him a brace of goals. After a winners medal here in Mangolana last season for the World Indoor Championships, and Runners-Up medals in the di Bradini under-21 World Cup as well as the prestigious Draggonnii Inviyatti, his stock is rising fast, and he'll be looking to add to his impressive medal haul here. Up front we must look no further than Masvidal, our icon, the future leader of our national team, perhaps the country, one of our all-time greats, the best striker in the land, the king of the penalty box – and so on and so forth - to improve on a so far modest return of four goals in six games: take out the hatrick against the fishermen of Cygning and one goal in the remaining five is very un-Masvidal-like. He will want to change that here.

For Arnold Tapia between the sticks perhaps the pressure is the greatest. While a midfielder might make five mistakes during a match and still come out on top, for the goalkeeper just one fluffed line could send the whole team packing: no pressure, Arnold! No doubt he will draw inspiration from every Tamarindo keeper's hero, the great Leaping Tree Frog, as he was known – diminutive Roui Spirozuké of Espanyol's golden years, perhaps the greatest Tamarindian goalkeeper of all time.

Tesoro Espanyol 1948 - 1967

Typically of the era, Rouisko Santxo Elorri Emenon de Spirozuké, or Roui, played only for one club his whole career, and that the club nearest to his home in the Gorbea district of Tesoro, only streets away from the training ground of the team he supported as a boy – Espanyol. Young Roui was a sickly child, often afflicted with bronchial conditions that affected his breathing and, according to his mother and in contradiction to the medical opinion of the day, his growth. He was known affectionately by many nicknames that made fun of his tiny stature, including Microbio, Diminuto and El Corto – Shorty – but the one that stuck was Ranárbol, Tree Frog, on account of both his size and his affection for climbing – and falling out of – trees. As the youngest of seventeen siblings, Roui learned that to get any sort of attention one had to be especially charming, and he grew up a character of sizeable proportions, despite his physical appearance to the contrary.

Passionate for football like most boys, but often out of breath just by warming up because of his poor lungs, he frequently ended up playing in goal even though he was far too small for the position, just because he was never fit enough to play outfield for more than a few minutes. In his later years as a full-time footballer even playing in goal would wear him out and he was often substituted under special arrangements at a time when substitutions were not provided for in the laws of football. Despite his size and physical fitness, Roui adapted to his default position of goalkeeper by becoming a remarkably pliable and springy sort of person who could change direction in mid-air and reach testing balls that keepers head and shoulders above him would not get. He holds the record of saving eighteen consecutive penalties during the seasons 1952 – 1959, a seven year stretch where he was not beaten from the spot once.

One To Remember

It is no coincidence that the best period in the history of the glamour club Espanyol came when little Roui Spirozuké was keeping goal for The Spaniards. He hit his prime in 1955, when, after three fourth-place finishes and a third, Espanyol won their first Eastern League title, sweeping all before them and handing reigning champions Sparta a double drubbing, 5-1 in Misión and 8-0 in Tesoro, as well as getting a comfortable double over their fiercest rivals Estudiantes. Indeed, coming as it did in the middle of Roui's penalty-saving streak, '55 is considered the greatest season in The Spaniards history, with the Leaping Tree Frog at the centre of it. That season he conceded a mere seven goals in 30 games, not once conceding more than a single goal in a game. Perhaps the most memorable game of a memorable season was in the home game against Atlético, the President's team, when Espanyol inexplicably won 3-0 despite having a really poor game in which Roui was called upon to make two penalty saves, pick off thirteen corners, block nine shots and palm away three direct free kicks on target. Atlético thrashed the champions-elect on that day, or at least thrashed ten of them. The other one, in goal, thrashed Atlético singlehandedly and collapsed with exhaustion with seven minutes to go and was only revived when a supporter shouted out that Los Presidentos were about to score. In 1955 Espanyol were the lords of the fields, and little Roui the God of The Goalposts.

The Greatest Save Of All Time

It was the save that earned him the extension of his nickname to the Leaping Tree Frog, in the local language Salto Ranárbol. It was the save that in Tamarindia they call The Greatest Save Of All Time, and The Impossible Save. It was the save that everyone who is old enough, and some who aren't, will tell you that they saw it, that they were there when Roui Spirozuké flew like a peregrine falcon across the goal-mouth, as fast as that or if not, then faster. In fact, so the story goes, he was so fast, he was too fast. Too fast to see, and too fast for the ball. Many people will tell you that they were there, and that it was in the derby match with Estudiantes, in La Campeonato del Norte, The Championship of the North. And if they tell you that, they are lying. Indeed, contrary to that popular urban myth, the Greatest Save Of All Time happened in a rather drab affair, a 0-1 defeat to less-than-glamorous San Martín in 1952. The usually dominant Spaniards were having an off-day and already losing to their poorer neighbours from the outskirts of the city when a striker so anonymous he is forgotten in history smashed a free kick into the top corner of the goal with a vicious curve, completely wrong-footing keeper Roui who found himself at the wrong end of the goal as the ball looped in. Using the post to propel himself, Roui flung himself, launching like a Leaping Tree Frog into the air, diving across the four metre gap like a falcon, and, so the story goes, having to hover there like a kestrel as he waited for the ball to arrive, since he was so fast he arrived too early.

One To Forget

After the perfect season of 1955 the Spaniards went on to record another title in '58, and third place finishes in '59 and '65. They were never quite as good as that first title season, and fell into a decline in the 1960s that had as much to do with Roui's health as it did the health of the club. By the mid-sixties the Leaping Tree Frog required a burst from an oxygen tank after every leap, which never got shorter or slower, but became less frequent as he ran out of the power to even try. In his last seasons he was only able to manage 60 or so minutes of play, his lungs could take no more. The club stuck by him as the talisman and spiritual leader of The Spaniards, but it was costing them dearly. In '65, their last decent season with Roui in goal, they suffered the humiliation of finishing below local laughing stocks TTAD, students from the Technical Institute, who came second. In '66, dropping to mid table, they were behind TTAD, Uruguayos and San Martín in the Tesoro pecking order, with Estudiantes winning the title. And as The Red & Whites retained their title the next season, Espanyol were relegated for the first time in their history. Roui was down to playing only one half of a match, with an oxygen tank strapped to his back and a snorkel mask like a diver, and his nickname changed from Tree Frog to Frogman. Espanyol bounced back but little Roui Spirozuké disappeared from sight; he retired at the end of that season.

10:58 A.M.

"You ready for this?" whispered Elizabeth Dubois to Melek Erdoğan. "We're about to go...and now!" she said as soon as the air horn blew.

Elizabeth and Melek raced towards the garbage dumpster across the street, looking for any potential enemies. Thankfully, someone had recently emptied the thing out, so it didn't smell like rotten food. Stealthily, the pair made their way across the rest of the parking garage, avoiding any obstacles along the way.

"RUN!" shouted Camilia Salo as she was sprinting towards the two. Elizabeth and Melek took heed of the warning and ran back to their line. Three other people appeared behind, pursuing Camilia.

"Now this is.." panted Camilia, "a good game of capture the flag. I almost made it to their base where they have the flag; it's right atop this car. If only we had someone who was good at climbing. Either one of you?"

Elizabeth and Melek shook their heads.

"Well darn. So who's defending our place?" asked Camilia.

Melek replied, "I believe Alaina, Estelle, and Diana are all back there. Everyone else, I'm not too sure. I think Diana is a good climber. She and I used to do some rock climbing back home, but I always failed. She, on the other hand, always reached the top. Made me so jealous."

"Well I'll go find her. Thanks Melek." And with that, Camilia dashed away to look for her teammate.

"So what do we do now? There's three of them guarding this border. What do you say?" asked Elizabeth.

"You know, we could do a diversion." she whispered back. "You'll go to the left, I'll make my way up the middle, right next to the garbage cans. If one of us gets caught, try to get the other out of jail. Let's see if we can climb that car to get the flag."

"You got it." said Elizabeth. "On three. One. Two. THREE!"

The two sprinted in different directions, baffling the three on the other side. One managed to realize what was going on, and pointed towards Elizabeth, beckoning that two chase her while she takes Melek. Elizabeth recognized the people following her as Lydia Jimenez and Gabriela Sanchez, both of whom are fast runners.

"You won't last long Liz!" shouted Lydia.

But then she tripped on a loose rock, and lost her balance.

"DANGIT!" she cried, grasping her knee.

Both Elizabeth and Gabriela stopped running to attend Lydia. "O.k. time out!" called Gabriela. "And I'm serious. Hey Lydia, you alright?"

"Does it look so? My knee is twisted in a weird fashion, and yet there is barely any pain. I just have no feeling. Why did the coach tell us we had to do this silly event? We have a match against Gyatso-kai tomorrow. What's the point of doing activities that might cause injury?"

More people started showing up, including Camilia and Melek. "What's going on?" they asked.

"You're off to jail Melek!" said a member of the opposite team, Natalia Polgov.

"Hey, wait just a minute Natalia. Can you not see that we have a player down?"

"It's the second time already that I've tagged you and you said that you can't go to jail. The first was while we were at the border between our two sides, and you said you made it just in time. You were well behind the line, as many people can attest to."

"Whatever, now's not the time." Melek replied.

A couple of players ran off to get some help and call the coach and medical staff. Obviously having a player down is terrible, but at least it was not a starter.

"Lydia, it's going to be alright. Just relax and stay there." said Elizabeth.

Finally after five minutes, the coaching staff arrived to take care of the injury. Coach Stacey didn't look happy.

"How in the world did this happen?" she asked. "This could have been much worse that it looks."

"She tripped, coach." replied Gabriela.

"Oh really? Well for her clumsiness, she is off the team."

"WHAT!?" exclaimed several members of the team at the same time.

"Hah, just kidding. We'll have Daniela take a look at he and see what's wrong. In the meantime, let's talk about the match so far. Why did I want you to play capture the flag?"

"Because you like to torture us on our off days?" asked Natalia.

Coach Stacey sighed. "Natalia, you could be taken for the village idiot. Seriously. But no, I organized this event so that we could find some team work between ourselves. You might be on separate teams, but you're all working for the same goal. And I put did offense and midfield versus defense for a reason. It was an experiment as well. You see, most of the defenders were staying behind to watch the flag, while the offensive players were all at it, trying to obtain the flag. It was interesting to see how y'all worked it out, even for the twenty minutes of play. Besides, it's nice to stretch your legs in something other than running in soccer."

"I think we should go for another round." said Gabriela. "I really want to win."

The coach smiled. "Excellent. That winning attitude is exactly what we need for tomorrow's match against Gyatso-kai. They will be a tough opponent, but if we keep our spirits up, we can grind through that match. I want another round to happen. Make sure not to trip next time ladies. It looks really bad. Let's hope that dear Lydia will be alright, though."

No Changes to line-up in preparation for Mapletish

Skyline, Mangolana- Marvin Glove will not be making any changes to the line-up he has used for most of the tournament, in what is the most important game so far for Arcatea. Both teams were from the Ordonez group, which also included a Gyatso-kai team who is still alive in the knock-out rounds and will play the #1 team in the Mangolana region. This reporter won't go so far as to predict a score, but I do know that it will be a great game, and it is a true toss up as it was only a 1 goal difference in their first match up.

In the press conference this afternoon, the Arcatean Government unveiled its new National Flag, which had been in the works since the founding of the nation recently. Below is the flag, and officials were going to be passing out full sized flags at the game tonight for Arcatea fans to wave. Along with those flag, they also passed out vuvuzelas in an attempt to give Arcatea any advantage possible.

Match Report

At the start of the match, Gyatso-kai came onto the pitch quickly; showing the determination of a team set to win. While many predicted that Gyatso-kai would falter early in this match, only ten minutes would pass by before the Bisons would send a ball to the back of the net: On a complete surprise steal, Kad'e Tay'haai would manage to be simply in the right place at the right time, pushing the ball forward and dodging the quick defence of Coventry players *smudge smudge* and *smudge smudge*. It was a fascinating goal, one we are certain shall entertain the highlight reel for the remainder of the week.

While the critics still saw Gyatso-kai not able to pull a win, Kotyc'e Bralor would once again surprise them all; coming from the forward field, Bralor would pass the ball between Maki Li and Wakahisa Hikaru for several seconds before outdancing the defence and tricking goalkeeper *smudge smudge* with a beautiful fake shot to the right... Only to send the ball quickly to the left and adding the second goal to Gyatso-kai's tally on the 18th minute.

Silenced for good, the critics would soon become the crazied fans of old, as Wakahisa --- known for late his more defensive stances on the pitch even though he is a striker --- would gather great speed and agility, taking on a 3-on-1 forward motion to score a goal from less than 2 metres out in the 38th minute.

The period would continue without another goal, though a strong offensive presence would bring the Bisons' possession of the ball to nearly 85% of the first half.

HALF TIME: GREATER COVENTRY 0 - 3GYATSO-KAI

When the teams returned to the field, no time was wasted by the Bisons, as Tay'haai was quick to gain control on the kick-off and bring the ball deep into the Coventry's side of the field and would begin an offensive onslaught; striking seven times on target, it would become the Tay'haai show, with every kick being fed to *smudge* only to have the rebound be given to Wakahisa who would give the ball back to Tay'haai. Repeat for success... and GOAL in the 48th minute!

Unfortunately, there would be a bit of a dry spell, with the strong offensive facets of the team needing time to rest. Though thankfully for the Bisons, the defensive quartet of Miyamoto Kaoru, Kim Dong Su, Fujimoto Zhong and Kobayashi Ren would remain impenetrable, able to take the ball from the Coventry and play around in their own zone for some time to run the clock down.

It would be in the 76th minute that Maki would gain the upper hand on his covering of *smudge smudge* in the Coventry home zone before taking one hell of a snipe shot against the unfocused goalkeeper. This goal, the fifth of the game, would result in *smudge* being substituted for the back-up goalkeeper *smudge smudge*.

Of course, this substitution came about three goals too late, and in the 88th minute, Tay'haai would seal the deal on his first international hat trick, gaining a strong right foot on the ball less than 4 metres from the net on a 1-on-1 attack to strike the back of the net with less than two minutes to gain the win.

Of course, with the win certain, Head Coach Boba Vhett would allow a rare chance for the young future star A'den Skirata to gain his first international cap, substituting him in to give Wakahisa a chance to rest; while he gained a goal to the team and saw three assists, the man needs his rest for the games tomorrow.

The Knockout Stage

Arcatea --- a team Gyatso-kai lost to early in the group stage --- was able to defeat the twelth ranked Tryienne team in a close 2-1 game in Narcana. In addition, #6 Miley World tied #11 Braxil in regular time, and needed the extra minutes to gain a single goal in Mangolana City. In Herogeos at the Citizens Payed Stadium, the seventh-ranked Rogue Pioneers pulled a 2-1 victory over tenth-seeded Osesnsasandaes.

The Next Match

Preview: AT Nicole Scherzinger
In the group stage, Nicole Scherzinger was unstoppable, winning all six of their games by large leads; with fifteen goals for and just three against, it is a simply impressive feat to accomplish. With a style more catered to the neutral play, their +1 should give them plenty of oppurtunities to score while protecting their own end of the field.

Our men will need to be able to keep the pressure on early in the match and maintain it throughout the game. Is it possible? Only time will tell

The words were loud, echoing throughout the stadiums locker room area, bringing an almost war-like atmosphere to the stadium. The men of the Bisons stood in unison, having learned another war chant and dance over the past few days. This was the 'Dha Werda Verda, which through ancient Mandalorian was known as 'Warriors of the Shadow': A more passionate chant when compared to 'Vode An', this song draw its inspiration from an ancient battle in which the Avatar erupted volcanoes to drown the enemy army in rivers of molten lava.

The ash from the eruptions clouded the skies of the nation for nearly two years...

"Manda'yaim kandosii adu.
Duum motir ca'tra nau tracinya.
Gra'tua cuun hett su dralshy'a."

Much like the 'Vode An', the rhythmic moves and actions of the dance were impressive to witness; serving as a fearsome display of discipline and reflex to warn an enemy of the power of the force which opposed them. Usually performed in armour, the men of the Bisons team would simply smack their bare chest, arms and shoulders in a complex tempo which was difficult to follow at first.
