You know why that is? Because Californians refuse to raise taxes.Jerry brown is a democrat.(I think this time)
Did he choose to cut education? If so, he's as fucking reactionary as the Republican party and twice as spineless as your average Democrat. So they are getting education regardless of this law.
That's not college education. It would cost far too much to be possible especially now.
Like hell. It'd cost far too much to NOT do it. The future price of not doing so is dozens of times greater than the present price of doing so.
Yeah, there were pretty hefty cuts proposed to the UC and CSU systems. http://www.kpbs.org/news/2011/feb/01/ho ... uc-system/ (looking for linky showing cuts went through)
So much so that both schools again had to look for ways (ie., tuition hikes) to patch the predicted shortfall. I think the UC system is looking to raise its tuition by 15%, while the CSU system is looking to do nearly the same.
Hell, my tuition has doubled during my 5 years at Cal Poly Pomona, a CSU school. Yes, it's still only $6,000 a year (tuition only), but it has nonetheless doubled.
