Next season, eight teams will be relegated from Élite League Two—the four reserve teams, and the four lowest-placed non-reserve teams. As a result, there will be a double helping of promotions:

(Note: Due to fluid time, this Élite League season took place before the Games of the IV Olympiad in 2178. Therefore, the Coupe francophone final was held in the Orange–Green Bowl, still known at the time as Aeropag Olympic Stadium/Stade Olympique d’Aéropag, because Olympic Tower Stadium was not yet completed. The next season of international competition will be in 2178 on the Bedistani calendar, so if Olympic Tower Stadium held the Champions’ Cup 18 final, it would be the first post-Olympic sporting event there, while if the Orange–Green Bowl held the Series B Champions’ Cup 15 final, it would be the last sporting event there before the stadium is downsized.)

The Final Week

Royal Khaldoon 0 – 3 BOS
Royal Khaldoon disappointed home fans as they played a team of reserves against relegated Belle-Isle on Sea.
Belle-Isle will take little heart from this result as the three points against a much changed Royal side accounts for nothing as Belle-Isle were already relegated.
Manager Gavin Dickinson made his feelings on the game clear after in a post match interview and stated

“I’m disappointed with Royal today, I think it showed a great lack of respect for my players to send out a reserve team. The result showed that the team Royal played was unprepared and viewed this game as a joke.”

Goals for Belle-Isle were scored by David Pallister, William Varney and Hector Oviedo. Pallister’s goal may be the last he scores in a Belle-Isle shirt as he is being targeted Athletic Khaldoon and Salaga as a possible summer signing.

Almondvale 3 – 3 Jonastown United
The six goal thriller in Almondvale broke Jonastown hearts as the single point was not enough to guide the team to the Globe Cup.
The sides traded goals as the home side lead on three occasions over the 90 minutes.
Almondvale took the lead through Ulli White and J-Town leveled thanks to Alexis Berklas. Almondvale were back in front before half time through Steve McBrin before being pegged back by a Hidalgo freekick. Almondvale thought they had won the game in the 88th minute when Belmont headed in the third only for Carlos Borges to drill home from 40 yards a minute into extra time.

Pythons 2 – 2 Skyte City
Pythons season stuttered to a final conclusion with a home point against Skyte. Sargossan striker Sérgio Costa scored twice for the home side after Joe Weatherford had given Skyte the lead.
Skyte nabbed an equalizer in the 63rd minute through the other Sargossa forward on show Gaston Batista. The forward has been a driving force in Skyte’s climb back toward the summit of the league following last years poor performance.
With the final day point Skyte confirmed their position in the Globe Cup next season at the expense of Jonastown.

Manager Neil Howzer stated

“This is a great turn around for a team who were almost relegated last season. Hopefully we can continue rebuilding next season and push ourselves back into TQCC contention.”

Ridgemont Town 1 – 2 Salaga F.C
Ridgemont disappointed home fans on the final day of the season in a tepid performance against Salaga.
Despite taking the lead after ¼ of an hour through a Craig Jones header Ridgemont underperformed and Salaga came back to take all three points.
Benito Gabrini’s stunning bicycle kick in the 48th minute sparked the come back and the striker managed to assist Salaga’s second, cutting the ball back across the box for Giovanni Van Dyke to smash beyond the Ridgemont keeper.
The result came as a relief for Salaga who had lost 8 of their last 7 games and were desperately looking to end the season on a high. Salaga however have already been named bookies favorite for the drop next season ahead of Villa Ortiz and Valengren Kickers.

Augustus 2 – 0 Real Minanda
Augustus geared up for their Trofeo Royal final with a comfortable win over Real Minanda. Goals from Toyur international Kristofer Svenson and Rowan Askwith were enough to fire Augustus to the victory.
When asked whether he was tempted to rest players for the final coach Gianfranco Vianna responded

“Not in the least. The players want to be involved in every fixture and to fight for every win, although some of the lads would have welcomed the opportunity to start it’s only fair those who put the most effort in, in training get on the pitch.”

When asked whether he was prepared for a possible Pythons backlash, having seen the side lose the league title in convincing fashion he replied

“Pythons is always a tough game, but we will be going hell for leather to secure our third Trofeo Royal.”

Athletic Khaldoon 1 – 1 Valengren Kickers
Neither side could overcome either as a point was the best the two could manage. Relegation battlers Valengren finished with their lowest points tally ever and their chances of survival next season look slim, despite Salaga F.C being made favourites for relegation next year by bookmakers.
Athletic took the lead after 16 minutes through a Ruud Seedorf drive. The midfielder has once again been talismanic during the season and is being linked with a move away Khaldoon Central Stadium.
Valengren equalized through Sunday Unsworth who marked his 24th birthday with a goal.

League I was a tale of two teams as Villa Ortiz finally overcame the major hurdle and won the league to secure a return to the Una Serie, contrasting with the fortunes of another former Una Serie side – Port Los Renato who succumbed to their second successive relegation and become the first team in Queer Poco history to drop two divisions in two years.

Port Los Renato will desperately try to keep hold of a few of the players and look to rebound from their crushing decent into League II. Chairman Irving O’Tool has pledged that this second relegation will not be the end of Port Los Renato despite the imminent drop in revenue.

Another team who face a relegation nightmare are Valengren Kickers who have been put up for sale. With the distinct lack of funds available to the coach to bring in new players the clubs performances are becoming increasingly poor and the poor performances have heralded a distinct disinterest from the owners. Chairman Ashley Joseph has now taken the step of welcoming offers for the struggling club. Mr. Joseph is hoping for a foreign investor to take over the club as he has had no offers from home. Valengren have only seen two new faces arrive at the club since the beginning of the Una Serie and one of them, Juan Segura has already moved on to pastures new.

In the Trofeo Royal Augustus achieved an epic hat trick of championships, collecting the title for the third year running and demolishing Una Serie runner’s up Pythons 4-0. The humiliating defeat at the hands of Khaldoon neighbors was the final nail in the coffin for a dreadful Pythons season who finish the season trophy less.

Queer Poco el Mono Ara’s 3rd Globe Cup spot was awarded to 5th place Skyte City. Normally the final spot is awarded to the Trofeo Royal winners or runners up, but with those teams (Augustus and Pythons) already in the international club competitions the spot was available.

Elsewhere Hunslet Wanderers gain promotion to League I after winning the League II championship, they will replace the twice relegated Port Los Renato.

CAFUNDELENSE LEAGUE - FIRST HALF OF THE SEASON ENDED

The first half of the season 16 of the Cafundelense league has ended. As everyone in the whole world must know now, this part of the Cafundelense season is the least important, being only useful to get the players fit (with the exception of the Prince Regent’s Cup [former Empress Cup and Emperor's Cup], which has some importance... but its winner won't go to the TQCC, but to the Globe Cup instead. The State-related competitions don't have practical importance. Other competitions are State Championships, and the only reason why the supporters want to win this is because they have to defeat their rivals to get the trophy. And that’s the only reason that they exist too. The State Championships and the State Champions Cup have tradition, while the Prince Regent’s Cup has practical importance. See the names of the state champions (yes, I'm lazy and won't update the introduction):

JUTA STATE: Cafundó do Juta
LASFT STATE: Petardos S/A
CENTRAL STATE: Central United

Champion: PETARDOS S/A!

Reactions: WARMING UP? Petardos S/A’s victory in the State Champions Cup, combined with one more title in the competitive Lasft State Championship, doesn’t mean much for the fans. These trophies don’t satisfy them, and they only hope that this can mean that the team is set for a good season. They want bigger competitions, as the First Division or an international one. As for this season the Billionaires have spent a lot of money in order to build an all-star team, there is confidence in Petardos S/A, and this good performance in the state competitions is a good way of warming up the team for the biggest and more prestigious championships.

THE PRINCE REGENT’S CUP

The Prince Regent’s Cup has the same format of the former Empress Cup (and the Emperor’s Cup), with the name being the only difference, after the brother of the former Empress (and son of the former Emperor), the Prince Miguel Van Tocco, became the new leader of the country as his sister had psychological problems, becoming the Prince Regent Miguel I, who’ll lead the country until the heir of the throne, son of the former Empress, reaches 18 years of age (he is currently 13). A bigger competition than the last ones, it involves 64 teams. Finally, the CCFM have decided to make serious rules about the participation in the cup: the 40 teams from 1st and 2nd divisions, the best 12 from the 3rd division, the top 8 from the 4th division and the top 4 (not necessarily promoted) from the 5th division in the last season participate. See the results (obs: no away goals rule). And now it is seeded for the first stage as, following the criteria, the 32 best teams play the first game away, being separated in the draw from the other teams. Note that its champion goes to the Globe Cup:

PETARDOS S/A WINS THE PRINCE REGENT’S CUP!

Reactions: READY FOR A NEVER-SEEN BEFORE CROWN? Another title for Petardos S/A this season, this time a more prestigious one. One thing is certain: this season is better for the team than the previous one, with much better performances. But the amount invested in the team seems to demand even more achievements, and the supporters commemorated this title in a shy way, expecting for more. The league is coming, and this can be the chance for Petardos S/A to be the first team to win the three major Cafundelense competitions (Cup, State Champions and League), with also winning the Jowenguard Crown and their state competition. On another curious note, Waldenyr Caldas wins his second consecutive Cup trophy… while Javier Sanchez is forced to see his team losing in the final for the third time.

International University Challenge Championship 20
presented by Nakiti Corporation

Administrative note: We forgot to mention this earlier, but until further notice we have restored the original IUCC tradition (active through IUCC11) of hosting the final in the nation that currently holds the IUCC title. That would mean that the final is held in Dancougar this time.

Knockout Rounds

Quarterfinals
University of El din [CAM] 1-0 Frontier College [ADN]
Arrigo Harbour, UIGA [CAM] 1-1 Ciudad Española, UIGA [CAM] (2-1 AET)
Shentarong State Univ [VPH] 3-1 Navon Beach University [ADN]
Thane College [DAN] 1-1 Chezlot University [VPH] (2-1 AET)

Semifinals
University of El din [CAM] 1-3 Arrigo Harbour, UIGA [CAM]
Shentarong State Univ [VPH] 1-3 Thane College [DAN]

Final
Arrigo Harbour, UIGA [CAM] 1-2 Thane College [DAN]

And so Thane College becomes the fifth school (Riestre [VPH], Akiba [DAN], Stanley [ADN], Char Sara [VAL]) to successfully defend its IUCC title. Dancougar becomes the first nation to have two of its schools do so. This is the third time that the IUCC title has been won by the same nation thrice in a row (Vephrall 1–3, Dancougar 4–6), and Dancougar is now the first nation to do so twice.

This opens up many possibilities for IUCC21: Can Thane College become the first school to win three in a row? Can Dancougar become the first nation to win four in a row? Join us for International University Challenge Championship 21, to be hosted in Dancougar beginning Tuesday 27 October (entries due Monday 26 October).

The deadline for entry to TakilQuip Champions’ Cup 18 and Series B Champions’ Cup 15 is 16:00 UTC on Saturday, 2009-10-17.

As Samseong has breached the terms of its contract with UICA by ceasing to exist, both the Series B Champions’ Cup and Super Cup will open bidding for new sponsorship at the same time; details will be provided later.

It may have taken him a couple of seasons but Hane Davis has delivered what he set out to do, to take Ciudad back up to the top of the domestic game. Defeat in the capitol derby followed by successive draws with the Azul and Petro and then a 4 – 0 hammering in Jucaro, a result made even more eye catching when you consider Alianza were down to ten men for much of the second half, looked like the start of a feeble collapse but Ciudad and their Candelariasian coach are made of sterner stuff these days. Five straight wins without conceding a single goal in their final five fixtures saw the title come home to Soluca for the first time in three long years.

Reigning champions El Nacional fell just short after being held at home by Dunas Del Sol in the penultimate round of games while Sporting tailed off alarmingly following the loss of both Agapito López Santos and Cafundéu’s Marcinho to injury. Newly appointed national coach José Marín signed off at Dínamo by leading the Maturín side into the Globe Cup by the narrowest of margins, a better head-to-head record over Porto Alegro Azul by one single goal. Deportivo Soluca flattered to deceive, again, while Alianza Jucaro needed a relegation two years ago to finally shake themselves into at least looking like a SuperLiga outfit.

At the other end of the table Dunas Del Sol picked up four vital points in the last three games to haul themselves out of danger while those around them all failed miserably. S.C. Goza surprisingly sacked Eduardo Lopez ahead of the final game and duly lost in Durgos against bottom side and already relegated Jaguarés but Santos, cruelly drawn away to El Nacional in the final game, couldn't take advantage and joined Moruga S.C. and the Jungle Cats in next year’s Segunda. Replacing them will be Machala Del Norte, Sportivo Maturín and Cartago Rojo. Once again the three teams that went down all bounce straight back up. Zzzzzzzzzz

Copa Sargossa

While the league can be a tad predictable the same can rarely be said of our beloved Copa. With Ciudad up against Juventudé and Sporting facing Moruga a Soluca/San Marquez final seemed inevitable Ciudad did their bit, turned over their upstart neighbours 2 – 0 at the ediraf and advancing to the final despite a 2 – 1 reverse in the second leg. Sporting were held 1 – 1 in Moruga by relegation botherers Moruga S.C. but then somehow contrived to collapse to a tame 1 – 0 loss at the Estadio Silva.

The final, played in Goza’s vast Independiente, produced the story of the season as mighty Ciudad, looking for a league and cup double, were thwarted by relegated Moruga by a single goal to nil. Twenty year old Gabriel Torres, a mid-season signing from Deportivo Alcántara in the Segunda who’d started the season on loan in the third tier, scored the winner.

All of which means relegation and Globe Cup football for a Moruga side who enjoyed/endured a season that can best be described as ‘mixed’.

The Global Cups

And so far we’ve not said a thing about the global cups. And we really should have done as it was quite a successful year for the Archipelago in all three. El Nacional became the first SuperLiga side to make it into the group stage of the TakilQuip Champions’ Cup, finishing a very creditable third in their group. While in the Globe Cup Ciudad Soluca became the first Sargossan side to progress beyond any group phase. They were given a sound beating by Valanora’s SC Rinaldi in the last thirty-two but it was a hugely successful campaign all the same. And despite never having entered a side in the Samseong Series B Champions’ Cup the nation still played a rather key role. Our very own Estadio Silva in San Marquez hosted the final in which Valanora’s AC Hartdale beat DFE Anhenir of Vephrall by two goals to nil.

All of which sees the SuperLiga advance up to seventeenth place in the league rankings. Which gives the Sargossan representatives an added incentive to do well this season as an upward move of just one place will secure an extra slot in the TQCC for the following campaign. Huzzah!

CAFUNDELENSE LEAGUE RESULTS (Before WC48)
Season 16

THE SAME OF EVER REVIEW OF CAFUNDÉU’S LEAGUE SYSTEM – Cafundéu’s league is composed of 5 divisions of 20 teams. All the divisions have the same style:

-1st phase: All the clubs play each other 2 times(home and away). It’s called “primeiro turno”. The winner of this phase it’s the first placed at the end of the league.

Tiebreakers: points, number of wins, goal difference, goals scored, yellow cards.

-2nd phase: The 8 best placed teams in the 1st phase play in a knockout stage. The 1st plays the 8th (Game A), the 2nd plays the 7th(Game B), the 3rd plays the 6th(Game C) and the 4th plays the 5th (Game D). They play two games(home and away). The winner continues. In case of draw, the team with better performance in the 1st phase wins. Then, the winner of the game A plays against the winner of game D, and the winner of game B plays the winner of game C(semifinals) with the same rules. Then, the winners play the final using the same rules.

-3rd phase: The winners of the 1st and 2nd phase play each other in one game in neutral ground. In case of draw, there’s extra time and penalties. The winner is the Cafundéu champion.

Promotion and Relegation: In all the leagues 4 teams get relegated. They are the 4 worst teams of the 1st phase. The promoted teams are the 3 best teams of the 1st phase and the best team of the 2nd phase(note that the champion of the 2nd phase can be already promoted in the 1st phase, so the best placed team that still wasn’t promoted will be promoted (the one which reached the final or the semifinal of the 2nd phase).

Orange: Division champions
Blue: promoted
Red: relegated
Purple: winner of 1st phase (if lost the grand final)
Green: winner of 2nd phase (if lost the grand final)

Special cases:

Silver: qualified for the TQCC
Brown: qualified for the Globe Cup

1st Division Past winners (since the entrance of Cafundéu in the NS World Cup -before that, there were many champions in competitions with different formats):

First, the Landau Institute league, called Láifódi. The Laifódi (Landau Institute Football Dispute) involves all the teams from inside the place, including teams composed by doctors, patients or simple workers of the Institute. All the teams play each other twice and, in the end, the team with more points win the league. Simple. There is no relegation, as there isn't a second division.

The final positions were the following (top 3 to TQCC, 4th, 5th and 6th to Globe Cup):

ESTRESSE INTENSO'S COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP

Previous champions:
Season 1 - Academia Acropolis
Season 2 - Escritórios Macedo
Season 3 - Academia Acropolis
Season 4 - Academia Acropolis
Season 5 - Camisa Dez
Season 6 - Academia Acropolis
Season 7 - Camisa Dez

The country championship involves the 10 best teams of the country of Estresse Intenso (this means the teams from outside the Landau Institute). There are many teams in Estresse Intenso, but most don't have organization, so the league is composed only by the top 10. Teams play each other six times, and the best after these 54 rounds is the champion. Bottom two are relegated.

Promoted teams come from a cup involving all the other teams that aren't on the league. Top 4 win a chance to dispute the SBCC, the only international competition available for them (as the TQCC and GC are reserved for Láifódi teams). See the final standings of the league:

Kingdom of Dancougar College Football
Season Capsules: 2049/50 Competition, 2050/51 Classification

The newest program trend: When Thane took two national titles in four years, it set a new standard for quality that few expected would be met again so soon. But then Hazuki State made it two in five, and this year Granger Island duplicated the feat. The unranked champions of Helmut put up a respectable 7-5-2 record in the regular season in a conference which got no at-large bids, but as it turned out, their sternest test of the tournament was in the opening round. The draw conspired in their favor, or so the theorists claimed, as they swept through with a commanding 7-2-0 record in Dancougar's "second season."

In the regular season, the media's No. 1 team was Big East champion Amada University, who finished 10-2-2 with a +18 goal differential. Of course, that also generated plenty of debate, since it was another down year for the Big East: no at-large bids out of their fifteen teams and an eight point gap between Amada and second-place Moore-Worth. There were stronger teams up north, where Chastain and Akatsuki both landed in the top ten after turning ten-win seasons in the Northern Plains. Chastain's 12-1-3 represented the most wins of any team in college football, but it was only good enough for No. 3 behind Coraopolis, who topped the Sullivan CPL, a conference which saw three nine-win teams vying for honors.

Lunarossa got four tournament bids once again, and the play-in round duly delivered a harsh reality check. Then again, perhaps it was going to be a down year anyway, with more traditional powers like the University of Lunarossa and Shadyside Academy going through some rebuilding. Instead, it was Bouquet which wound up on top of the table, and behind them, all three at-large berths went out in the opening round: Wightman were beaten by Hazuki State, Lakeport were blanked by Seanor City, and Neville Island came closest to advancing by losing to Keats Island on penalties. The other big shock of the round was Akatsuki's exit, as they were thumped 5-0 by the Naval Academy, who were looking to duplicate their Sweet Sixteen run from two years ago.

Bouquet joined their conferencemates in the pile of losers after bowing out on penalties to Nara college in a highly-charged No. 4-No. 5 matchup which brought renewed criticism of the random draw. Opponents countered back by pointing at unranked Monagham State's 6-0 aggregate thumping of No. 1 Amada, who simply didn't show up when it mattered. Other big results included No. 13 Thane's upset of No. 2 Coraopolis, as the two-times world champs hoped to follow up on that accomplishment with a third domestic title. The Naval Academy got their Sweet Sixteen berth by beating Hazuki State 4-2 on aggregate, and an in-state derby between No. 15 Shiba Tech and No. 21 Shiba U resulted in a whitewash for the Staters, who used a 3-0 road win to cruise 4-1 on aggregate.

There, the Naval Academy went out once again, and so did Thane. Cyert Tech needed penalties to scrape past Crane State after the two fought to a pair of 1-1 draws, while Granger Island needed an away draw to hold onto a 4-3 aggregate win over Monagham State. Going into the quarterfinals the highest-ranked team left was No. 3 Chastain, who certainly looked capable. But Cyert Tech scraped together a pair of away goals in their quarterfinal and won on penalties. Now who were favorites? Shiba bowed out and so did Akasaka, leaving Karin Tech as the only ranked team in the tournament at No. 18. Nobody was going to pick them. Granger Island and Keats Island were the class of the survivors.

The draw meant that they could meet in the final, but Cyert downed Keats Island 3-0 in their away leg to build a difficult, but not unbridgeable, gap. Keats Island also won away from home, but 1-0 was not enough, and the techies were through. They would meet Granger Island, who breezed past Karin 4-0 on aggregate. But we already know how this story ends, don't we? The teams were level at the break but a pair of second half goals in the National Stadium delivered Granger Island the title with a 3-1 win.

Thane twice as nice: Somebody explain to me how this works. Kasai Academy were victorious in IUCC 18, and yet they were left off of the qualifiers for IUCC 19 despite promises from the College Alliance that they would be included? Sure enough, internal errors resulted in Thane College getting the first IUCC slot ahead of Kasai, as an intern somehow confused Thane's national title with the world championship. As a result, Kasai had to play a qualifying round - which they won - to get into the tournament proper and defend their title. Carling College joined them to give Dancougar four teams in the group stage, and of them, only Hazuki State failed to make the knockouts.

There, Carling defeated Flitton to reach the semifinal while Kasai and Thane dueled each other in what many saw as a destined clash. The paper champions versus the real ones! A berth in the semifinal awaited, and Thane's 2-0 win brought them up against Carling College in another all-Dancougar showdown. Thane rolled 3-1 to set up a final with the National Maritime Warfare School of Candelaria and Marquez. This one wasn't even close: a 5-1 whitewash kept the title in Dancougar and somewhat vindicated the poor fool who'd put Thane there in the first place.

But despite the joy of the win, there were still complains. Thane should not have gone in the first place, and Dancougar was gaining an unfair advantage by taking a fourth IUCC slot. The Sports Ministry put enough pressure on the College Alliance that the body decided to enact a self-sanction. Dancougar, a founding member, would not celebrate the IUCC's 20th tournament in style. Instead, it would only send a single team, Thane, to defend its title.

Playing now with all the eyes of the nation - even the world - upon them, the students from Thane breezed to the Group D title by going 5-1-0, a full nine points better than second-place Ciudad Espanola. A pair of Vephrese opponents awaited in the knockout stage. Chezlot University were bested with an extra-time goal, and then Shentarong State fell 3-1. The final was once again against a Candelarian school, Arrigo Harbour, and Thane were played much closer this time around. But they had too much momentum and too much energy, earning a 2-1 win to repeat as champions. Despite all the controversy, Dancougaran college football remained in the ascendency.

Short stay in the Series B: In the newly-expanded Series B Champions' Cup, the main concern was how well Dancougar collegians would stack up in what would surely become a tougher tournament. Dancougar has a history of sending amateurs to do a professional's job, starting with their first World Cup runs and continuing with the creation of the SBCC and spring tournament. A few teams had done well in the past, even making it to the knockout stages. But in the most recent edition, things were rough for Dancougar's four entrants.

Things started with promise in the preliminary round, where Yuki State at Helmsley and Amada University were both stationed. AFC Stanton were blanked 1-0 and 2-0 by Helmsley and Amada romped 4-1 in the home leg to go with a 2-1 road squeaker. They joined Hazuki State and Carnegie Tech in the playoff round, where the difficulty of the new format quickly became apparent. Two Septentrionian clubs, one from Cafundeu, and one from Ad'ihan: powerful leagues all of them, even at the lower levels. Helmsley lost both legs to Pointemer AC and Amada were crushed by POlice de Saint Jacques. Hazuki State's 1-0 home win could not offset a 4-1 road defeat, and Carnegie Tech likewise saw a home win nullified by a crushing road result.

Taking the Helm-sley: If the pattern from the last few seasons was going to hold, then the most likely contender for the crown had to be Chastain. In the last seven years, four schools had won titles, and they were the only one without a pair. So it had to be them. After being ousted in the quarterfinals the year before, they were a trendy pick in the preseason. But as it turned out, they wouldn't even win their conference. Somebody forgot to tell Stoneridge Tech that Chastain had already been crowned by the media, and they ran up 11 wins to win the Northern Plains. Chastain still didn't have a bad year, 8-4-4 and a No. 20 ranking, and made the tournament field. But their following predictably evaporated, and news outlets looked for the next story.

The No. 1 went to Alameda Academy, who finished first in the Keats Island CPL by a dominant eight points. Their twelve wins were the most in the nation, and their +19 goal differential bested the No. 2 Dancougar Royal Academy by one. So naturally, they weren't favored to win the tournament. No No. 1 has ever managed to win it, and few manage to even get a whiff of the later stages. The message from the coaches was to ignore the media and focus only on the opposition. No one expected that to work, either. Hinamizawa and Darrough were the weakest at-large teams, but there weren't too many complains because not many looked better. Coraopolis maybe had a case, but at five losses and a tight +4 goal differential, they had a hard time looking convincing for the committee. On, then, to the tournament's opening round.

Millbrae University 4-3 (#19) Lakeport University
Chirico College 3-4 Hibiki University
Shadyside Academy 4-3 Darrough University
Brackston College 4-3 (#15) Shiba State University
(#24) Jefferson College 1-2 (#23) Southport City College
(#20) Chastain College 4p-4 University of Shikibu
(#12) Kasai Academy 1-5 Hinamizawa College
Thane College 2p-2 (#14) Bouquet College

This time, things were better for Lunarossa. Last year, all three of their at-large teams were eliminated in this round, but two survived in this attempt. This time, it was only two. Lakeport and Bouquet were done, and the latter on penalties, but Shadyside manager to scrape through. Twice world champions Thane were already assured of a return to the IUCC, but there was some motivation to get through on merit. Chastain looked shaky in their result, a penalty win ove the University of Shikibu, but at least they hadn't lost.

(#17) Pembrooke Academy 3-4 (#18) Purnell College
(#16) Gabthley University 5-3 Millbrae University
Nikkei Academy 6-2 (#23) Southport City College
Hinamizawa College 3-2 (#1) Alameda Academy
(#7) Yuki State at Helmsley 3-1 (#11) Hyland College
Granger Island College 2p-2 Concannon College
(#21) Callihan College 5-2 University of Igor
(#5) University of Sullivan 3-7 (#2) Dancougar Royal Academy
(#20) Chastain College 4-5 (#22) Seiei University
(#9) Baptista College 1-2 (#25) Furude College
Shadyside Academy 3-6 (#4) Stoneridge Technical Institute
(#8) Crane State College 1p-1 Hibiki University
Karin Technical School 1-3 Brackston College
Foster College 3-5 Thane College
(#3) Lunarossa State University 5-3 (#10) Carnegie Technical Institute
(#6) Chester Academy 7-5 Friedmann College

You can set your watch to it - No. 1 and done. This time Hinamizawa were the giant-slayers, fighting hard to earn a 1-1 draw in the road leg after eeking out a 2-1 win at home. Their celebrations were duplicated by conferencemates Furude College, 2-1 aggregate winners over Baptista. But the top draw of the round had to be No. 2 Dancougar Royal Academy up against No. 5 University of Sullivan, two schools which have won this tournament before. After a thrilling 2-2 draw in the opening leg, Sullivan were welcomed to Yuki City, where the Royal Academy deflated them thoroughly in a 5-1 whitewash. Other schools advancing included Thane and the defending champions Granger Island, the latter on penalties, as well as Lunarossa State, who had restored some balance to their league table by winning the Lunarossa CPL with ten wins.

(#16) Gabthley University 0-3 Hinamizawa College
(#6) Chester Academy 4p-4 (#3) Lunarossa State University
(#7) Yuki State at Helmsley 5-4 Nikkei Academy
Thane College 6-1 (#4) Stoneridge Technical Institute
(#25) Furude College 5-3 (#2) Dancougar Royal Academy
(#18) Purnell College 3-1 (#22) Seiei University
(#8) Crane State College 1-2 Granger Island College
(#21) Callihan College 4-5 Brackston College

Some familiar faces were rising to the surface after the Sweet Sixteen. Thane romped over No. 4 Stoneridge Tech and Granger Island also pulled off an upset to advance. But fans were starting to grow wary of the teams from Kotaru. Both Hinamizawa and Furude pulled off upsets to reach the quarterfinals, and Furude's rally to draw the Royal Academy 3-3 in the road leg was nothing short of spectacular. The most attractive tie of the round, No. 3 Lunarossa State and No. 6 Chester, did not disappoint, as the teams battled to a pair of draws before settling their differences on penalties.

(#6) Chester Academy 1-5 Granger Island College
(#7) Yuki State at Helmsley 2-0 (#25) Furude College
Thane College 4-5 (#18) Purnell College
Brackston College 0-5 Hinamizawa College

After a pair of wins by Helmsley knocked Furude out, people suddenly had to take notice of the nation's No. 7 team. After losing twice in the regular season, they'd played six tournament matches, now, without a defeat. They were looking strong. But so, too, were Granger Island, who dismantled Chester to reach the semifinals. Thane's run ended to Purnell, but they weren't considered among the favorites despite their surprise run to the final four. Hinamizawa was given a better chance, but Helmsley and Granger led the pack in the media's eyes.

(#7) Yuki State at Helmsley 5-3 (#18) Purnell College
Granger Island College 2-3 Hinamizawa College

And what better way to decide than by making them play? Purnell lost as expected, but the manner of the defeat was not. After holding on for a 1-1 draw in Helmsley, Purnell turned to the home leg with a real shot at the final. But a 4-2 final saw them through. Elsewhere, Granger Island were finally up-ended, as Hinamizawa won the first leg on the road to make the difference. It was a Cinderella tale, but would it end happily?

Grand Final: National Stadium, Yuki City
(#7) Yuki State at Helmsley 3-2 Hinamizawa College

Before the match, Helmsley's coach gathered the team and told them a story. Over thirty years ago, a bunch of college kids from all across the country were gathered together and given a single directive - win. That team was the first Dancougar national team, the champions of the Baptism of Fire 26. And he was Tony Travers, one of the starting central defenders on that team and a Helmsley alum. Inspired, his team ran up a 3-1 halftime lead. But despite his defensive drilling, they gave one back to a desperate Hinamizawa side which started throwing everything forward. In the end, though, the lead was too much to overcome. Helmsley were champions, and for Travers, it was just as sweet as if he'd been back on the field himself.

Dancougar annouces international qualifications: Thane College is the defending IUCC champion. We're sure of that, right? We messed it up last time and ended up stealing an extra, unwarranted spot in the field because of it. They will get the first slot in an effort to win three in a row, while the other two slots will be awarded as usual.

Hinamizawa threw a small wrench in the gears when they opted to defer their SBCC slot in order to compete instead in the IUCC, which moved up Alameda into their vacant slot. Granger Island, with two consecutive runs into the semifinals, easily won the fan vote, and the College Alliance filled out the SBCC allotment by electing fellow semifinalist Purnell.

Sorthern Football League, 2041 season

Shield

The pointlessness of the Shield was taken to a whole new level this season as Heathfield United were reduced to fielding their Under-13's after their Under-14's, Under-15's, Under-16's, Under-18's, Under-21's and Senior squads were all too busy washing their curtains. The youngsters though put in a impressive performance, holding the Strand's first team squad to two-all after full time and extra-time before finally losing on penalties. Not that anyone was really all that bothered.

Lispole Strand 2-2 Heathfield United (2-2 AET) (Lispole Strand wins 4-2 on penalty kicks)

Division One

After three different champions in the previous three seasons the top of the table takes on a familiar look after Corcaigh coasted to their fifth championship. And oh how easy it was for them. It took them a while to get to the top spot and to keep it, twenty four games in fact, but once they were able to stay on top for more than a week they stayed their for the rest of the season ever expanding their lead until eventually winning it by a massive ten points, odds on them staying for another few years probably aren't all that long. Elsewhere the defending champions, Heathfield United had what they'll consider a bad season. Much of it was spent lingering around mid-table, though a good late run saw UICA qualification become possible, something they were pipped to by two points by their city rivals. Which will make the 2-1 home loss and 2-0 away loss to City that little bit harder for United to swallow.

Division Two

The theme of returning giants continues in the second tier as Beningrad, the country's self proclaimed biggest club, return to the top flight as champions amid claims of FIX! following the controversial disallowal of goals in the final match of the season. Beningrad ended the campaign with a 2-2 draw at home to Cobh Walkers, where Walkers had what looked like a perfectly valid goal ruled out late on in the game, whilst Banna Rovers ended their season by losing 1-0 away to Ibibis Isle in a match where Rovers had two goals disallowed and where the Islanders goal came from a controversial penalty. The SNFA however have been quick to dismiss the claims as “nothing more than Septentrionian waffle”. At the bottom of the table Marx-Stadt failed in getting rid of the 'yo-yo club' tag.

Division Three

The third tier saw a close run battle for the title, which in reality looks closer than it actually was due to Eastlands wrapping up the title with a game to go and easing up enough in the final game to lose 2-0 to Workers United, whom having been promoted from the Fourth Division last season will be quite pleased to have finished seventh in the Third. Probably. Little Greece and Brickinwell join Eastlands in the Second Division next year with their brands of defensive football which is too attacking according to Yaforites.

Division Four

Rather exciting season in Division Four this season, if you happen to support one of the teams that did well. If not it's all a bit meh. Ballynafen go up as champions having not been troubled too much, Asinusford City and Fenmershe County were the two clubs to come out trumps in what was a tight fight for the two remaining promotion places.

Bottom club Najraydah Al-Nasr's reward for not being all that good was a play-off against Na Piarsaigh for a place in the SFL next season. Na Piarsaigh qualifying for the play-off by virtue of reaching the Fourth Round of the Cup, and if you listen to Goienuri and Conarth Corinthians (the two other non-League teams to make it that far) by virtue of also being an Irish speaking club and the SNFA wanting more of them in the League. Whether or not there's any truth in that the play-off was a simple enough affair for the League team. Again.

Najraydah Al-Nasr 3-0 Na Piarsaigh
Na Piarsaigh 1-1 Najraydah Al-Nasr
Aggregate: Najraydah Al-Nasr 4-1 Na Piarsaigh

Dreyher Island League

A six point margin saw last season's Dreyher Island League being the closest yet. Just a season later and that record was broken as both teams went into the final game of the season having won seven games, drawn four, and lost seven, setting up a winner takes all final match of the season. With a 4-1 victory it was Oast Orient who took it all.

Pos Team P W D L GF GA GD Pts

Sorthern Cup

After last years Cup which saw the final Division One team knocked out in the Fourth Round, the Cup returned to a sense of normality this season with the final rounds having a good share of Division One teams in them. That didn't mean the winner of the competition wasn't a surprise though. The Sorthern Overseas Dependency of An Blascaod Mór, with a population of just 143, already punches well above it's weight to have a team in the upper echelons of Division Two, so for them to win the Cup (and thus qualify for the Globe Cup) is a hugely impressive feat, and the party there is probably still ongoing.
