We have a very funny sport in Shaunborough where you pit two teams of Convicts against eachother with random weapons pulled from a box, The weapons range from... Switchblades to Automatic Pistols. The best thing is, the Spectators are completly protected as they sit behind Bullet proof glass and if things get too nasty we have Guards with Anti-Material Combat Rifles around the arena.

Cockfighting

Postby TurtleShroom » Wed Sep 28, 2011 11:25 am

When casinoes were legalized, cockfighting became one of the games permitted in casinoes. As with every gambling game, it is regulated by the Board of Gaming and Vice.

Here are the BGV's rules for cockfighting:
  • Chickens may not die in a match, or the owner is disqualified for six months.
  • A licensed poultry expert or avian vetrinarian, etc. serves as the match's moderator, referee, and spotter.
  • Cockfighting can not last past three three-minute rounds without a break to feed, water, and bandage the chickens.
  • The victor is declared by the expert after the agreed number of rounds. Scoring is based on the expert's observations of the skill and speed of each chicken and, at the end, who has strutted away with the least damage.
  • After each cockfighting match, the chickens that competed may not participate for two days, or otherwise until their wounds heal and they are deemed healthy enough to engage in fighting once more.
  • No more than two chickens may fight in any given match.
  • Chickens must be owned, raised, and trained by the players from hatching. They can not be purchased and placed in the ring. No exceptions.
  • Chickens must be licensed for cockfighting by the Board of Gaming and Vice by passing a competency and training test to ensure the chicken is properly trained for the sport.
  • Chickens in a cockfighting match must be in good health, well-fed, and hydrated. Failure to do so is a disqualification and a revocation of licensing.
  • Anyone, foreign or TurtleShroomer, may raise a chicken for cockfighting, provided they obey these rules.
  • Cockfighting is strictly prohibited on Sundays.
  • These rules and regulations must be present and made visible in every cockfighting pit, and recited by the announcer at the start of each business day in the casino.

Unless we count field hockey when a player has PMS as a violent sport, then the only one that's popular in CL is boxing.
Please note: Central Lothian is the direct successor to Mid Lothian*. As a result, I am still called Rebecca, I am still a Grammar Nazi and most information pertaining to ML also applies to CL (although I will be taking this time to change a few things).

* - And I may refer to the country as Mid Lothian. If I do, assume that I mean Central Lothian. (And not to be confused with "Midlothian" - I'm using that as a fascist version of CL.)

There is a colosseum in the capital city of Victoria where gladiators face off against either other gladiators or monsters.

Grand Manitou does have one violent sport and event which maintains high popularity called "The Running of The Wealthy." The event is celebrated every week on Saturday and represents when the revolutionaries that took control of the current territories that Grand Manitou holds then chased down all the "Elitists" and obviously shot them.

Dissidents that are in state "work camps" have the choice to participate in the "The Running of The Wealthy" in which they are gathered up 100 miles away from the town of Mackinac City and must make their way to Mackinac City and across Lake Huron to Round Island where they are granted their freedom if they survive the dozens of patrols, landmines, roadblocks, bombing runs, tanks, and angry mobs along the way. Currently the event brings great entertainment to the citizens of Grand Manitou through means of television, radio broadcasts, and even directly watching the event.

If there is no reasonable possibility of death or serious injury, Human or Ratamahattan, it's not allowed.
This does mean our sports range from, say, rugby to "go into this arena and use anything you can improvise as a weapon, last one alive wins and gets to be let out."

Violent sports are pretty much legal, since we're not pansy liberals who can't stand to see a little blood shed. The most common blood sports are Gladiator games, Bear fighting, Cock fighting, Raptor fighting, and Dragon fighting. They're most commonly practiced on the outer worlds, though.

The only thing resembling a violent sport that we have are what would be the equvilent of a political parties' primary. Any political hopefuls that face a primary are given a compass, a buck knife, and 2 or three sticks of peperoni. They are then dropped off in various points in the equivelant of the Rocky Mountains of the U.S. for 3 months and are televised 24/7. Whoever survives is the winner and will represent his or her party in the general election. If more than one survive after 3 months will fight to the death until one stands. If no one survives, then the other party runs with no opposition. This is the most popular "sport" in the nation.

Maulball is very popular, but it's regulated so that serious injuries are rare. For those who don't know it, maulball is a game in which two or three teams of ten players attempt to hold onto a ball. For every second they have it, they get one point. The other team beats them up to recover it. At the end of half an hour, the team with the most points wins.

Pole dancing is our most popular sport. As it involves steel pipes and no protective garments, there is plenty of blunt trauma to be had.

Actually, the safety record of pole dancing is quite good. Most years, there's no more than four or five deaths in the pole dancing ring. Usually novices killing each other.

We have lots of violent sports, including ones where people dying is often the point. In fact, a sport isn't considered truly sporting unless there is at least SOME violence.

Well, there's our local variety of football (and I do not mean that american bullshit). Usually the referee ends up unconscious within a few minutes, and the game tends to develop a somewhat more martial dynamic. Football is very much seen as the most important sporting event, to the point that anyone expected to be working while a game is in progress will simply go there, and nobody will mind.
The most violent occasion was a match between two tank-regiments, which ended in the ball being tied to an APC, which then drove through the enemies goal, barekly missing the keeper. Normally these matches tend to be a more peaceful affair, with the general melee being limited to the pitch and the usually quite quickly formed "designated hooligan area". Cheerful music, tons of alcohol and general misdemeanour leave behind a total battlefield of dirt, unconscious people, empty bottles and the occasional lost tooth.
Fast-paced brass-bands motivate the crowds to join the cheerful frenzy, while getting hammered in any meaning of that word. And the worse the weather, the bigger the prestige for attending the game, thereby proving the size of ones "yarbles".

That being said there is a very strict taboo on using firearms...it's just not sporting, you know. The occasional axe-handle though is another matter.

Edit: imagine several thousand people basically rioting in an open field, while getting shitfaced and fornicating in the bushes, while music like this is played from aeveral sides and bands at once. Great way to releave stress, or to find your boss and beat the crap out of him.

It's a sport called Gridiron Football. Really, it may not be accurate, but they chose that name. It's still the official name, whether you and other Soccer fans like it or not.

Hell, I don't even give a flying fuck about sports, but I really don't see the point in all the sentiment against Gridiron Football. And frankly, I don't care about that anyway.
